MAGDALENA FARM HISTORY
Magdalena Farm is undoubtedly the one of Kentucky's most historic Thoroughbred farms, originally deeded to Captain David Shely for his service in the Revolutionary War. On the north side hill of the farm overlooking what is now the turf course is the Shely family cemetery. Buried there is the Shely family, including who we consider to be the farm's matriarch, Magdalena Weber

Shely, who was the wife of David Shely's son, John. The farm was named Magdalena in her honor. Eventually, the farm was developed into a Thoroughbred operation, specializing in stallions. During the early to mid-1940's it operated under the name "The Stallion Station" and was one of the first commercial Thoroughbred stallion businesses and was home to such important horses as TOMY LEE (1959 Kentucky Derby winner), VENETIAN WAY (1960 Kentucky Derby winner), SASSAFRAS (Fr) (1970 French Derby winner), and DEVIL DIVER (1943 and 1944 Horse of the Year). In 2006, Kenny and Sue McPeek acquired the farm, conditioning it into a premier boarding and training facility, renaming it Magdalena Farm. MAGDALENA FARM TODAY
Today, Magdalena Farm is comprised of 115 acres, 23 turnout paddocks, 63 stalls, and a European grass gallop track that is used for training purposes in warmer months. Our turf training track was seeded with Riviera Bermuda and Ultimate Fescue using optimum density of each to help cushion the impact of each horses' training regime. The course has two steady inclines designed to strengthen horses' heart, lungs and muscles. Training can either be left or right, keeping horses mentally and physically happy for longer periods. The farm is also used as the year-round office base for McPeek Racing. There are currently more than 150 horses managed my Kenny who are racing, in training, or being broke to saddle.
