A new Akhal-Teke girl on the solstice, to carry forward Phil & Margot’s legacy. 💖

Happy Solstice to you! And big news for us!

At dusk on the Winter Solstice today, a lovely new member arrived from afar, joining the purebred Akhal-Teke horses at the nonprofit Akhal-Teke Center.

Adlumia Tiamet (Anduma x Ahmiyetli, 2022) has been donated to the Akhal-Teke Foundation with great generosity by Erika Wyatt, a long time friend of Phil Case, and someone who has known Akhal-Tekes for most of her life. In fact, Erika rode Goldka, dam of Anduma and Tia’s grand dam, back in the day at Shenandoah Farm.

In addition, horse transporter (and owner of Akhal-Tekes including the stallion Gudrat) James Boudrieu donated Tia’s transport from Illinois to Virginia, quickly fitting her homing run so generously to his already busy driving schedule.

Though sired by Akhal-Teke Foundation stallion Anduma, Tiamet, bred by Jennifer Newman, brings significant new genetics to the ATF conservation breeding program. Herself representing five original import Akhal-Tekes, Tia adds the heritage of two new original import horses to the baseline diversity of the ATC breeding herd.

With gratitude to the Sun and the Earth on this Solstice, we have such gratitude to Erika, and James, and to all the far-sighted compassionate Akhal-Teke loving contributors who help make the Akhal-Teke Foundation possible.

to you!!

Have you seen an Akhal-Teke horse today?

“This unique breed is not less than three thousand years old. The Akhal-Teke is a direct descendant of the horses of the Massagetae, the Bactrians and the Alans which were famous in antiquity. In ancient Persia these horses were known as Nisaean and several centuries later-as Parthian, but they were always spoken of as the best in the world. In the second century BC the Roman historian Oppian wrote of them: “These horses, worthy of the most powerful rulers, are strikingly beautiful in appearance, they move lightly under the rider and lightly accept the bit; the head with its Roman nose is carried high and their golden manes flow majestically in the wind."

The long cold spell in the Blue Ridge broke Saturday, with good timing for a weekend of horse moving ahead of Monday morning rain.

On Saturday we moved stallions. Anduma went from the Big Rock pasture to Middle West, where he had been through the summer. Kiergen moved from the Hay Barn pasture to Big Rock, where he had been previously.

Then on Sunday, we moved the mares Gavinka and Kurinka and their foals Robbie and Ruby from the Bungalow Barn area to the Hay Barn pasture.

That in turn allowed us to move Zenus to the Bungalow Barn, in good time ahead of her March foaling date, along with Kebelek as a companion.

The moves went smoothly, and nobody seems too upset. This leaves “only” seven Akhal-Teke girls in the Big Barn area, down from nine. Seven seems like a good size for the group there.

UPDATED UPDATE: Thank you so much to all the great supporters who have donated over $2152 so far toward our goal. Those donations get matched, making it over $4304 raised so far!

And there’s still time to pitch in, for the horses:

People around the world are coming together today to celebrate generosity and make an impact. At the all-volunteer nonprofit Akhal-Teke Foundation, we have a goal to support 20 for a month. And with your help, we can make this a reality.

Your gift can also make TWICE the impact, thanks to a generous donor who will match the first $7,000 raised, dollar-for-dollar!

$10 = Feed an Akhal-Teke for a day
$32 = 50 lbs of Mare & Foal feed
$75 = Vaccinate a Pregnant Mare
$100 = Half bundle of Orchard Grass hay
$378 = Bundle of Alfalfa hay

Will you help us feed the Akhal-Tekes?

Have you heard of ? It’s a global day of giving, and it’s a great opportunity to make a difference by donating to the causes you care about. This year, join all of us at the Akhal-Teke Foundation as we rally with people around the world to raise money for our favorite causes.

Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving, so, December 3rd this year. With your help, the Akhal-Teke Foundation will work to raise $7000, which will go toward supporting five pregnant mares at the nonprofit national Akhal-Teke Center.

Your support will make the births of five sparky new Akhal-Teke foals possible. We hope you’ll join us with a Giving Tuesday donation, to make that goal a reality!

Amazing story…

Akhal-Teke stallion Kiergen has just defied the odds to come out unscathed from a freakishly rare, typically devastating infection with a terribly low survival rate.

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Virgina Tech tells this life-saving story here…
https://news.vt.edu/articles/2024/10/vetmed-vth-success-story-kiergen.html

With your valiant help, the Akhal-Teke Foundation will do anything we can for the dear horses in our care. The hospital bill for saving Kiergen is $8056.41. Please help as you can.
