"When we designed the Cryostride boots, we truly listened to what was best for the horse. The boots needed to provide the therapeutic temperatures necessary to prevent and treat laminitis. Additionally, they needed to keep a horse comfortable by preventing ice from getting underneath the hoof and we needed to eliminate any tape and plastic that could cause irritation and even scarring on the legs. They also needed to be durable enough to be worn constantly for multiple days, allowing the horse the freedom to move around the stall without supervision as well as allowing the horse to lay down and rest without discomfort. Creating a boot that is easily refillable minimizes the time an uncomfortable horse needs to stand on one foot and ensures therapeutic temperatures can be maintained for long periods of time."

According to a recent article on TheHorse.com, "While laminitis and navicular disease pose more dangerous threats to your horse’s feet, the average horse is more likely to encounter a foot bruise than any other lameness." When identified immediately, cryotherapy can slow the blood flow and minimize bruising in the impacted hoof.

Cyrostride boots helped 21-year-old, retired hunter Houston stave off laminitis as he battled Potomac Horse Fever this past summer. The gelding was admitted to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute so he could receive round-the-clock, intensive care. During that time, treating veterinarians put Cryostride boots on Houston, who had bounding digital pulses and hot hooves. The boots rapidly and consistently cooled Houston’s feet. In total, Houston wore the boots for 8 of his 13-day stay.

According to Heidi, Houston had no issues moving around in the stall while wearing the boots and the ice didn’t get trapped under his hooves -- no matter how long he wore the boots or how active he was in the stall. Houston has made a complete recovery and is back to his retired life, including light riding.

“I believe the Cryostride boots made a significant difference in Houston’s care and in preventing laminitis. According to Houston’s vets and the vet techs, he was melting the ice in his boots quickly during his first two or three days in the hospital. I was really nervous about him developing laminitis, which would have added to his already declining condition. Cryostride boots helped tremendously in reducing heat in his feet and making him more comfortable while he was being treated for PHF. It was one less thing to worry about during an already-stressful time.”
