Dr. Murphy will then be out of the office from Thursday, December 14th, through Monday, December 18th.
We will be staffed to answer phone calls and any needed questions.
Please pick up any needed new prescriptions prior to those dates.
Due to South Carolina licensing laws our assistants and licensed technicians are unable to vaccinate any pets or issue new prescriptions without Dr. Murphy present.
The technicians are able to do some laboratory tests that are within the scope of the veterinary practice act. Dr. Murphy will be unable to to do any phone consultations or authorize any prescriptions at that time.

We are pleased to announce that we are carrying Nexgard Plus for dogs. NexGard® PLUS (afoxolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel chewable tablets) is safe for puppies at 8 weeks, weighing 4 pounds or more.
We are transitioning from Trifexis to Nexgard Plus for dogs. While Trifexis is still a fantastic product, we wanted to add the additional protection of tick control.
Like Trifexis, Nexgard Plus is a convenient all-in-one product for for heartworm prevention, intestinal parasite control, flea control but now adds additional level of protection for working against ticks and the transmission of their diseases to dogs.

Birchwood Veterinary Hospital will be closed for Labor Day Monday, September 4th, 2023.
Dr. Murphy will then be out of the office from Tuesday, September 5th, through Friday, September 8th. Birchwood Veterinary Hospital will be staffed but have no doctors hours during those dates Tuesday through Friday.
Tuesday and Thursday will be open 8am-3pm. Wednesday and Friday we will be open 8am-5pm.
We will be staffed to answer phone calls and any needed questions.
Please pick up any needed new prescriptions prior to Labor Day.

Birchwood Veterinary Hospital will not have doctor's hours from Saturday, September 3rd, through Sunday, September 11th. Dr. Murphy will not be available during this time. The office will remain open and veterinary staff will be answering phones and will be able to offer only limited services. They will be unable to write prescriptions, diagnose illness, or give any vaccinations. Hours will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8am to 5pm; Tuesday, Thursday 8am to 3pm.

Please plan ahead if you need to pick up any specific medications.

If you have a medical emergency, Please contact CVETS at 803-995-8913 or SCVSEC at 803-561-0015. Please do not wait until Dr Murphy returns if your pet needs urgent medical attention.

We will reopen as usual Monday, September 12th, at 8:00am. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I would like to take a moment to thank the majority of our clients who have been gracious and patient with our curbside service. Curbside and staff masking is how we have been able to consistently remain open and be available to our clients and their pets.

Unfortunately, some of our clients have verbally abusive or berated our staff over our curbside protocol. While we all wish that Covid was over, it is still here. We want to be here for you and your pets to answer questions, concerns, and take care of our patients. We have a smaller staff and if one of us contracts Covid, our ability to practice at full capacity is limited. If I, as the sole veterinarian, gets Covid my staff is unable to provide most of our regular services to pets without me in the building (as per the South Carolina Veterinary Practice Act).

We fully understand that you may be vaccinated and you wear masks, but the risk for exposure is still there. Our exam rooms are small and even with fans are not fully ventilated. Newer cases have been coming up lately and we would like to remain open for all of you. In the last 2 weeks some our staff have had isolate from family members and significant others due family being positive. Some of our staff have also lost family members due to Covid.

We apologize for any inconvenience that Curbside may cause you. We are all doing the best we can to remain open and available to you and your pets. The main thing we ask of you is to be kind and respectful to the staff. We have continued to show up each and every day to make sure your pet gets the best care. We take precautions in our own lives to make sure we are healthy and able to come to work. Many of us have families and medically fragile relatives we are trying to protect as well. We appreciate all of you and hope that you understand.
