That's a wrap! 🎬

Most of you already know, but FPF will no longer be offering boarding services and have moved our lesson horses on to their next jobs. This was a very personal and difficult decision to make, but I am confident it is what is right for me and my family.

Now on to the next chapter!πŸ“–

I will still offer coaching and instruction, but as a freelance. In other words, you need to have your own horse and facility.

Between riding, coaching, and volunteering, I hope to see you all at shows throughout the year! πŸ’œ

Other than damage to our back door and some wash out on the driveway, all seems well here today. Praying for the farms that were affected by yesterday... If we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to ask. πŸ™πŸ’œ

In light of the unpredictable weather today, all horses were fed and turned out early. Be safe everyone! πŸ’œπŸ™

Reduced, I have to reduce my herd!

"With Grace"
2017 OTTB Mare, approx 16 hh
2024 RRP eligible
Last raced May 2023

Grace is easy to handle, loves people, stalls great, ties, bathes, lunges and we have even put her under saddle a handful of times.

Grace is a lovely mover, super athletic, and forward thinking! Nice ground covering trot and soft on the aids. She really could go in any direction! She has not disappointed in anything we have asked. Perfect for an experienced amateur looking for a sporty, athletic mount.

Grace has been let down and hanging out barefoot since she came to us last summer and is ready to start her 2nd career ... 3οΈβƒ£πŸ–οΈπŸ₯•πŸ₯• obo

You may wonder why we pull back into the syringe when giving injections in the vein. This picture explains why. We don't pull back to make sure we're in the vessel, we do it to make sure we're in the RIGHT vessel. Today I went to give an injection and pulled back and saw blood brighter than I wanted. I decided to go and get a new dose of sedation and once again pulled back and then gave my dose of sedation. The syringe on the left was my first injection and the syringe on the right was my second injection. Does anyone know why I shouldn't have injected that first syringe? And had I injected that first injection, what would have happened?

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope that you are as excited for 2024 as I am!
I hope that you will forgive my lack of consistency with the Grassroots Eventer blog, but the last quarter of 2023 was a bit overwhelming with things happening and to do lists that never got smaller and always grew to the point of overwhelm!
Anyway... I just published a new blog post for you. I hope that you find is encouraging and inspiring... let me know what you think and if you have any particular take aways from it.

Link is in the bio!

This...

The biggest issue facing riders who wish to be upward bound----and I realize that is a small percentage, but even so-----
----Is that the amount of time that can be allocated to practice will be limited to what a horse can handle.

I read stories of golfers who hit buckets of balls on the driving range, young basketball players who put in hours of practice after the other kids have headed home for supper, but a golf ball, a basketball, these are inanimate objects. They don’t care how often you hit or shoot them.

If a human, in trying to improve, rides a horse for as many hours a day as athletes in most sports can put in, it would be bad for the horse.

In other words, the rider who has access to more than one horse has a big advantage over those with limited opportunity. This is simple truth. To be very adept at most physical skills requires long hours of doing the pieces of that skill set over and over and over again.

How can the rider gain saddle time? By being situated such that there are lots of horses to get on. How can this be accomplished? That will be something that each particular rider will either figure out, or not.

Fairness has nothing to do with it. Getting good at riding is mostly a matter of riding. The best riders have bodies that blend harmoniously with the bodies of their horses, and that doesn’t happen without spending those long hours over long periods of time.

The fact that this may be an unpopular truth doesn’t make it less true. You have to ride ride ride ride ride ride.

Umm... Ace, Chalk, and Cheese having a standoff with a little mouse (the tiny grey spot, against the wall, near Ace). Guys, it isn't cool to play with your food for 3 hours and 45 minutes before you decide to eat it. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
