📆 🐴 Join us Saturday, February 1st at 12:30 pm, for an exciting EquineEd Event featuring Bob Coleman PhD PAS!

Dr. Coleman has served as the Extension Horse specialist at the University of Kentucky since 1998. During this time, he has looked at different management practices when horses are on pasture. In addition to his extension activities, he teaches a course in Equine Facility design and management along with a course on tools and tack used in the industry. Working with horse owners across the commonwealth has provide him with opportunities to look at how different practices work in different situations.

Dr. Coleman will be discussing different management practices horse owners can consider for maintaining pastures. Horse owners can consider what might work for their facility and their horses as one size does not fit all.

As we look back on an incredible year, we’re filled with gratitude for the moments, milestones, and memories we shared with our visitors, horses, and staff. Here’s a look at some highlights that made 2024 unforgettable:

🐴 New Beginnings:
We proudly opened Show Barns C & D, each housing 100 stalls, adding more capacity for our world-class horse shows. The Kids Barn received a complete remodel, making it more interactive and welcoming for our youngest visitors!

🏛️ Historic Achievements:
Completed Phase 1 of the International Museum of the Horse renovations, with a stunning new lobby and the opening of the Uma no Kokoro exhibit, celebrating the spirit of the horse in Japanese culture. Honored the late Custom Made in our Hall of Champions Memorial Walk of Champions.

🌟 Notable Events:
Crowned Oliver, a Mounted Police horse ridden by Captain Lisa Rakes, as our 2024 KHP Horse of the Year! Hosted beloved traditions like BreyerFest, the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event, the Hallowhinny shows, and the KHP Foundation Trail Rides in spring and fall. Welcomed adorable Belgian and Percheron draft mares and foals, that captured everyone’s hearts. Introduced new trolleys sponsored by VisitLex to enhance the park experience!

🤝 Sponsorship Success:
This year, we welcomed 20 new sponsors and proudly renewed partnerships with 2 valued sponsors, helping us continue to enhance the park for our visitors and horses alike.

📸 Cherished Memories:
Snow day adventures, horseback riding moments, and smiles from our Mustang Troop and Youth Riding Camp participants warmed our hearts throughout the year.

As we close the book on 2024, we’re looking forward to all that 2025 has in store. Thank you to everyone who visited, supported, and shared in the magic of the Kentucky Horse Park. Here's to another year of celebrating the horse and the people who love them! 🐎💙

Horse Around With Us!

The Kentucky Horse Park (#KyHorsePark) is Kentucky’s largest state-owned tourist attraction, and is an agency of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet. Also the largest attraction in Central Kentucky, the park is dedicated to sharing Kentucky’s love of the horse with the world. Based in Lexington, the park hosts about 860,000 visitors and 18,600 competition horses in 200 special events and horse shows annually. The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park, equine competition facility, and equine office park dedicated to man’s relationship with the horse. The park is set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of Kentucky’s famous Bluegrass Region. Featuring dozens of different breeds of horses at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, and horseback and pony rides during the main summer season, and an exciting array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. Meet retired champion horses from Thoroughbred, Standardbred and Quarter Horse racing. Enjoy the sound and excitement of the show ring with the Parade of Breeds. Take a 8 to 10-minute trolley tour of the grounds and meet our Draft Horses in their home in the historic Big Barn. Three museums are included with admission to the park throughout the year - the International Museum of the Horse (#IMHorg), a Smithsonian Affiliate, explores man's relationship with the horse; the American Saddlebred Museum & Gift Shop, the "Showplace for Saddlebreds," is the home of Kentucky's first native breed; and, the Wheeler Museum in the USHJA headquarters, showcases memorabilia from the hunter jumper sport and the Show Jumping Hall of Fame. Our main tourist season is April to October, with our daily shows and presentations, horseback riding and pony rides, museums and many horse shows and special events. The museums become our main focus in the winter months, November to March, as the live horse presentations and other equine activities abate for the season, but the grounds and barns are open and you may witness some training taking place or horses turned out to winter pasture.

In 2013, TripAdvisor named the park as a Travelers' Choice Award Attractions winner in the Top 25 Amusement Parks and Water Parks in the United States category, the first year the award has been offered, and annually receives the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Come see for yourself why the park has received such great national accolades and attention! Please note: Any posting to this page may be subject to disclosure to third parties.
