Kootenai Pets for Life is hiring! We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Shelter Attendant to join our team. Below is a list of the duties. Please read it carefully. Each item is critical to the welfare of our animals.
Description :
As an Animal Shelter Attendant, you will play a vital role in the care and welfare of the animals at our shelter.
Your responsibilities will include providing food and water, cleaning living spaces, and assisting with medical treatments as directed by our veterinarian and shelter manager.
The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about animal welfare and has a strong work ethic. You must have excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast- paced environment. This is a physically demanding job that requires lifting and carrying heavy objects, as well as being comfortable working with animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Responsibilities:
Provide food, water, and clean living spaces for animals in our shelter. Assist with medical treatments, such as administering medication and cleaning wounds, under the guidance of our veterinarian and shelter manager. Handle and restrain animals in a safe and gentle manner. Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, including litter boxes, cages, and runs. Assure the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the shelter facility. Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns to the shelter manager.
Other duties include:
Assist with the adoption process, including meeting with potential adopters and completing necessary paperwork.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience working with animals, preferably in a shelter or veterinary setting.
Strong knowledge of animal care and welfare.
Ability to handle animals of all sizes and temperaments with confidence and ease.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform repetitive tasks.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and potential adopters.
