Derby arrived at our facility today, presenting with a severe case of lice and significant weight loss, down to 151 lbs. He should be 250. He is 17-18 months old. His feet have obviously never been trimmed. He only has his 7 month old teeth with nothing else showing.

If you ever hear donkeys don’t need their feet trimmed, set them straight!

He likes his mash. So tonight in a soft stall, de-liced, and dewormed with a 1/2 dose. He is too wormy to take a full dose.

We can not wait to share updates with you. Once we are sure via the vet, he will get gelded

With the heaviest of hearts I need to let you all know that Pilot passed away. Just know he was loved.

Not such good news back from the vet about Pilot. He has peritonitis (an abscess in his abdomen. They are estimating 20% chance of survival. He has a chance but it takes money to save him.we are not giving up yet. If he is suffering, we will have to put him down but for now, he is still nibbling his food and has a feeding tube in. Theses are pics the vet sent me. Keep donating and saying prayer, send good vibes , reiki, however and whatever to help him live!!!

Pilot is at k state university and here are some pictures. We really need to raise money for his vet bills. They are almost $7000 and growing.

We hate to say, but Pilot has taken a turn. He does not appear to be thriving like we hoped he would at home. He is lethargic, is not eating therefore is not gaining any weight. We have maintained medication from his last medical stay, but decided today, we need to get him back into the hospital. He is a fighter (pilot) and he could really use your prayers and support. We are currently headed to Kansas State Veterinary Hospital for more tests and tube feeding. We feel that will create the best results for him right now.

Here is the total bill for Pilot. We raised 2200+. Thank you everyone for your generous donations, support , and prayers! He is doing a little better each day. Today was his last shot!

He still takes Equimast for his ulcers and overall gut health.

We found out that a tractor Supply in Joplin, Missouri was having a sale on shavings!! Tractor supply is having this sale until Christmas Eve I believe. So remember that they adjust prices to other tractor supply stores!! $4.49 a bag!!! We bought 135 bags!!!! We are now set.

Training the wild burros has started. They are the same group of 12 that Pilot came with. They are all BLM. This donkey is Jacqueline and her baby boy Kennedy. 2 sessions and Jacqueline went from kicking at anyone who approached to a semi-willing partner. We do no force them. We use positive reinforcement. Enjoy!
