Congratulations to all our 4H & FFA students that took part this week in the Williamson County Livestock Association Show and Auction. Here at Ashley’s K9 Training we are very proud of all our local hardworking kiddos! We are so happy we were able to come out this week and support you guys.

How can structure be helpful in your home?

Maintaining structure in your home with your dog can be extremely helpful to keep things running smoothly.

How can you do this? By establishing boundaries and being clear about what is acceptable in your home and which behaviors/actions are allowed from your dog. A huge part of this is following through and being consistent with everything you are asking from them and holding them accountable for those boundaries. Another very helpful thing with most dogs is establishing some sort of routine or schedule to create a more stable environment.

6 easy things you can do that will improve your dogs behavior.

1. Interactive play: Spend just 5 Minutes doing interactive play with your dog. This could be tug, chase, hide & seek, etc.

2. Go outside: Spend time outside with your dog and enjoy the fresh air! Whether that be going on a walk, hike, or just sit in the backyard sunbathing. Let your dog explore the environment and reward them for engaging with you!

3. Ditch the bowl: Use your dogs meal or part of your dogs meal for training, to reward/reinforce good behavior throughout the day, or feed with a puzzle/interactive toy.

4. Confidence building: Take some time to work on building up your dogs confidence through canine fitness exercises, box feeding, public outings, nose work games, dog sports, etc.

5. Engagement activities: Use high value treats or toys to work on creating value in your dog's engagement with you - just spend 5 minutes rewarding your dog for naturally/voluntarily making eye contact with you!

6. Train for your life: You don’t have to do training the way everyone else is - prioritize teaching your dog skills that will best help them in your lifestyle and home
