Here's some tips to keep Halloween fun and safe for your pet:

• Keep your pet indoors. It's best to set up a quiet, safe space for them, as the door opening and closing and the loud noises can stress them out.

• Avoid toxic treats! Chocolate and candy are dangerous for our furry friends. Stick to pet-safe treats!

• ID & Microchip your pet. Since doors are opening and closing, it's easy for pets to sneak out. Make sure their information is up to date on their microchips and that their tags are secure!

• Keep your pet safe while trick or treating by using LED collars and reflective gear.

Did you know cats can get infected with heart worms too?! Indoor and outdoor- mosquitos that transmit heart worms are everywhere. Did you also know there is no effective treatment for heart worm infections in cats as compared to dogs! Actually, treatment can be deadly. BUT, there is an effective prevention just like in dogs that also prevents fleas as well.....

I asked our amazing staff for a cat picture and within 10 seconds I was being inundated with cat pics.....

Very interesting read...... follows up on the previous post with regard to routine cancer screening, the sooner we know the better our long term treatment options can be.

Medium-sized dogs have a higher risk of developing cancer than the very largest or smallest breeds, according to a UC Riverside study.

Great news....
Halle B aka Indy aka Squirrel got her forever home!!!!
Thanks SAFE Refuge of Central Texas for helping another friend find a loving family along side another Frenchie whom SAFE was instrumental in getting fixed up and homed as well.
Squirrel is recovering amazingly fast from her surgery and a full recovery is expected with no long term worries.
So happy.....

Did you know 1 in 4 dogs will develop cancer? and that 80% of dogs over 10 years of age will develop cancer! There will be approximately 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed in dogs this year alone.

These stats are scary..... What if I told you we now have an in-house test that can predict the most common cancers affecting dogs with 97% sensitivity (meaning very few false positives) and we can have those results the same day!

This in turns allow us to monitor our dogs at risk and ultimately pick up these cancers sooner rather than later when the cancer has spread.

Give us a call at 512-548-6412 to discuss the NuQ and how we can begin monitoring your canine friends early as we know 'early cancer detection improves outcomes!'

(Cat owners, the NuQ has only been tested and validated in dogs. However, we do have other biomarker testing available for cats that is equally exciting and picking up cancers early)

This post is the first in a series telling the story of this sweet girl, Halle B. Halle 'was' a breeding dog that was dumped over the fence at the Taylor Animal Shelter. Yes, you heard me right. She is the third Frenchie recently dumped for various medical conditions that the breeder didn't want to spend the money on. Thanks to the amazing people at SAFE Refuge of Central Texas Halle is getting second chance.

The story is.... Halle was paralyzed and could not use her back legs. See next video. S.A.F.E brought Halle to Libertyhillvets and Dr. Murphy for help.

Halle had decompressive spinal surgery last Tuesday, as well as getting spayed, and is well on the road to recovery as you will see in the third and fourth videos (or yesterday in the treadmill video).

We cannot thank the amazing people at SAFE Refuge of Central Texas enough for their work and huge hearts with which they operate.

Please visit the links below so they can continue to do the amazing work they are doing on a daily basis.
