Yesterday we welcomed one of our local homeschool co-ops out for a morning with the rescues. Sharing our passion and educating young minds is our favorite!

It’s $5 Friday, and we are at a point where we desperately need donations. We currently have 31 horses/goats/donkeys and 25 dogs and puppies under our care. That’s over 50 mouths to feed, vet, and care for. This week has been busy getting 9 dogs spayed/neutered/vaccines up to date. Two emergencies, the list goes on. Our funds are depleted and there’s nothing for emergencies. Next Wednesday is our feed run for the horses which is $600 per week, hay is $500, dog food $300 per week.
We have about 6 horses on a waiting list that need us and more requests for help daily for horses and dogs alike. We cannot continue without help. Please consider a $5 donation today. This weekend’s fundraising goal is at least $1,000 for us to be able to feed everyone this week!

We laid Shady to rest 2 weeks ago. He’s been with us since this summer and it’s been a difficult road with him. He was taken by law enforcement after his owner stated he’d rather shoot him than get him vet care. Shady had been starved and was suffering from an acute case of heaves. He was only 9😢. For months we have tried steroids, a nebulizer everything. He slowly declined and he could not breathe. We had hoped with fall things would turn around but it seems like each day was worse, even after a nebulizer treatment he had no relief, never any improvement. He had started standing in his shelter most days just struggling to breathe. He was so happy other than that. He was out with the blind girls and loved them so much, he and Sky were inseparable.
This was an impossible call, but his suffering was hard to watch and we knew by next summer it would be even worse.
Shady was peacefully let go with the team that loved him and fought for him. Breathe easy buddy and know you mattered and you were loved 🌈❤️🙏

🎉Big day for some of our dogs available for adoption🎉These 6 all get spayed/neutered today. The Danes also get their gastropexy surgery to prevent bloat from happening.

The puppies had their vaccines, dewormer and were micro chipped today Clemson Paw Partners. Thank you Margret for helping with their dewormer and micro chip! The girls stole everyone’s heart today at the clinic, 2 now have pending adoptions! We still have 2 puppies hoping for their forever family! They are all girls and adoption fees include their spay which will be scheduled for you.

I woke up to this post about these 4 puppies that were dumped in a neighborhood. Well we watched all day and no one stepped up for them and someone even hit them with a rake trying to get them off their property. With the help of Horses & Hounds, LLC picking them up they are here safely! They’re super wormy and need to see a vet asap! Each puppy will cost about $100 each for their initial vetting.

I don’t know where to begin. We lost Gold yesterday, we lost him so fast.
Gold’s First (OTTB) came to us back in January of 2023. He was saved by Race Fund after being sent down the slaughter pipeline. We were pretty sure he’d been bounced around for a long bit. When he arrived he was completely emaciated. I spent the entire first week up every hour checking him as I was certain he was going down and we would lose him. That boy never went down, he fought like hell to live. I spent the next year battling to get weight on him and this year we finally turned the corner and he started to look like a real horse again. You never found Gold without his girls Athena, Hazel and little Charlie. (All the old folks😊). He had a special bond with 2 of our volunteers, Christy and Miss Jimmie. Gold could be a bit of a butt head when it came to doing something he didn’t want, especially if he was away from his girls, but always, always behaved for his Christy! Christy and Gold had a very special bond. That boy loved her. Miss Jimmie comes each Monday and spends literally hours brushing and talking to Gold and Hazel. The big, ornery boy would stand quietly as long as Miss Jimmie wanted. I’m not sure who enjoyed their time together more.
💔Yesterday morning was like any other morning, Gold, Hazel and Charlie eating their special breakfast mash together. And then we found him laying down away from Hazel and Charlie, which was a red flag immediately. I went straight out and brought him in and knew right away he was in trouble, he was shaking and covered in sweat. I initially thought we were dealing with choke. I called Dr. Kate DVM and she was here in 20 minutes. Initially that was her thought, she tubed him and it went right in to his belly (no choke) and immediately fluid gushed out of the tube. He had a small intestine colic and was twisted. We kept him sedated until Christy could get here to say goodbye. About a minute after she got to him, he ruptured and we promptly let him peacefully go. Gold was surrounded by all of us that loved him and Hazel and Charlie were right by his side.
💔I’m so sorry old man, please know how much you were loved. I know that you are pain free and running with the big herd in heaven. 🌈🙏

We lost one of our old guys very suddenly today. I’ll share more tomorrow, we need a moment…

There is an empty stall in the barn tonight...There’s an emptiness in our hearts that hurts unimaginably. These precious souls come here to heal, to be loved, for a second chance. Sometimes they are here for a moment, sometimes for a while. No matter what that time is they are deeply loved and given the best care we can give.

There comes a time when the best we can give just isn’t enough to keep them here. The kindest, most selfless act, most loving act, is letting them peacefully go with dignity and surrounded by love.

I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for your support this week. Every message, every text, every call gave us the strength we needed to get through. We are forever grateful for your support.

Today we grieve. Each and every creature on this farm felt the sorrow, the emptiness, their absence.

Tomorrow we move forward and open our hearts for the next soul that needs us. And once again, the stall will be full, full of hope, love and a new beginning for another precious soul…
