We had an emergency intake yesterday. We received a call about a horse that keeps getting out and going to the neighbor’s down the road. One of the neighbor’s had been keeping an eye on the situation and realized that their solution was to tie him to the side of an abandoned house on their property. He had no access to food or water. The neighbor spoke to them and they agreed to surrender him. Kaitlyn went and picked him up and brought him back to the rescue. Well 🤦‍♀️, why was he escaping? He’s a stallion. Yep!
We’ve got a few things working against us. He’s kind, but unhandled. He’s also OLD and there is an issue with his p***s, he cannot retract it. We’ve started him on meds to see if there an infection or something. Most likely he will need to be gelded (if possible) in a hospital situation.
Donations are needed for us to be able to get him the help he needs.

🐎❄️$165 donated! $1,135 left to go!❄️🐎

❄️❄️Baby it’s cold outside❄️❄️
Everyone is nice and dry under their blankets! We had a new hay feeder delivered yesterday, wanted to try it before we bought another. Well we love it!! Their hay is nice and dry! We’d love to get 2 more, one for each pasture. They’re $1300 delivered.

I know we are always fundraising. It’s constant care and improvements every single day. We strive to give them the best care possible! Keeping their hay dry in bad weather is essential to keeping them warm 🔥.

$5 Friday is dedicated to new hay feeders🙏🙏
We have one coming Monday, will you help us?

❤️update, roofing found!❤️

We are getting ready to build our next shelter for Jack our senior mammoth donkey. Looking for a few donated items as we get materials together. One being roof panels, does anyone have metal roof panels they’d want to sell cheap or donate?

Our favorite trainer was here today and worked with some of the new mares that came in recently. Everyone did fabulous. Even the sassy new filly, Noel. We worked with her lightly today, just working on getting her handled and halter broke AND got a blanket on her for the incoming inclement weather. Noel is still presenting with nasal discharge and has been started on another round of antibiotics 🥲.

We pride ourselves in taking our time getting to know each and every horse that comes through our gates. Training is one the most important parts of their healing and helps us to match potential adopters.

One day his coat won’t shine quite as bright,
His eyes won’t sparkle quite how they used to.
His legs will become tired and he’ll take a little longer to get up.
He won’t come to the door when you bring his saddle out anymore and he’ll find those jumps just a little harder work than he did before.

But he’ll never stop loving you.

He’ll never stop waiting, with pricked ears, to hear you arrive in the morning.
He’ll never stop grabbing your zip if you stand too close.
He’ll never stop throwing his bucket over the door when he finishes his dinner.

One day he'll grow old.
One day his body will slow down and he will let you know it’s time to hang up the bridle.
And when that day comes, give him a hug, hold him tight and thank him for everything.

Give him days in grass filled fields under summer sun.
Give him love, attention and never let him believe he is anything less than perfect.
Don’t cast him out into a far away field to be glanced at for the rest of his time.
Don’t hand him to the groom and downgrade him to the stable at the end of the yard.
Don't try and pass him off to someone else as a companion and let him go somewhere strange and new at a time in his life when all he needs is you.
Love him, exactly as you did when he was in his prime.

He'll never stop loving you, so never stop loving him.

❄️❄️$466 raised, $708 still needed❄️❄️

A hard freeze and freezing rain are expected this weekend into the next week, possibly accompanied by snow❄️. In anticipation, we visited Hay Suppliers of the Upstate to procure high-quality Timothy/alfalfa hay for our horses. We purchased 63 bales at $18 each, totaling $1,134.

As hay is essential for meeting horses' elevated energy needs during winter, we urge supporters to contribute. If 100 of our 6,000 followers donated $10, we could cover today's hay expenses. Hay Suppliers of the Upstate

01/02/2025

As the new year begins I’ve been reflecting the past few days. We go into year 5 and how much we accomplished this year is mind blowing! 86 lives saved!

This year we ventured out of our comfort zone and because of our amazing foster Ruth Ann Murray we saved 35 dogs! We also saved 22 cats and kittens!

We gathered a team after Hurricane Helene and because of YOUR donations we hauled 4 trailers loaded with supplies for humans and animals to WNC!

Fundraising sucks, it does, no way around it. Unless you have money to pay a grant writer (we don’t) and hope they do the job, fundraising is the worst. But so necessary to be able to give these souls the best chance. And there’s daily feed and hay, farrier care, vet care , emergencies, the list goes on 🤦‍♀️. This year please consider a recurring monthly donation!

There are days especially at the end of this year, that I thought about quitting. My heart couldn’t take another loss. Somehow though you get through it because you know there’s another soul that needs you, that deserves that second chance. They get here broken, sad, sick, scared, utterly failed by humanity and the strength comes and you dig in and healing begins.

Our beloved adopters that chose a rescue horse, I cannot begin to express how blessed we have been. We’ve developed friendships with all of them. We get regular updates and they share their journey, their accomplishments and THAT is what drives us forward! You all have no idea, days our hearts are just devastated or we are just exhausted from the work, one of you will text us sharing an update and our hearts soar! We love ya’ll!

Our friends and volunteers that work along side of us and cheer us on, I don’t know what we’d do without you. To everyone that has donated, you too are saving lives, you help ensure that we can go another day, we can keep their bellies full, we can call the vet without hesitation, everyone’s feet get trimmed without fail, these beloved equines are getting what they need because of your donations! Big, small it makes a difference.

Our team, the best period! Our vet Dr. Kate DVM, her compassion and care for our rescues is unmatched. Andy Brock our trainer, he is the most patient, kindest trainer we have ever worked with. Our farrier, Brian, the best! Poor guy he never knows what he’s going to be trimming when he gets here, a seasoned senior, an untouched broodmare, feral yearling, or a mini from hell! Whatever it is, he gets them done with patience and a good laugh to match a swift kick here and there 🤣. My girls, literally the best kids around. Their lives are sacrificed daily for the horses and they may grumble here and there but they work harder than any other kids I’ve ever known, they take tremendous pride in what we do. Our volunteers that have become family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do ❤️

Many a day is hard around here, but the blessings and joy seeing these souls heal and go on to new lives, new adventures with loving families is the greatest reward. Thank you every single one for your support ❤️

🎉We’d love to start the New Year with a bang! Please consider small donation! January 9th is our monthly vet/farrier day, it usually runs us around $2,000! Can we cover that amount?!🙏

Healing happens here. Thank you all for being a part of their journey❤️ All donations are tax deductible and we are dependent on private donations.

Our dream is a reality

As a family we have been working with rescues for almost 10 years, tirelessly devoting our time and resources to save these precious lives. A year and a half ago we moved from S. Florida and bought a small farm in SC for our children, rescued OTTB’s, and various other rescued critters. With the encouragement of close friends we filed for and received our 501c3 status March 2020. Our beloved Hasty Red is our inspiration for saving these precious souls. We met him at the rescue in Florida we volunteered at for many years. Hasty was a horrible abuse case and with the help of many he was removed from his terrible situation and landed at the rescue in Florida where our daughter fell in love with him. Hasty’s gentle spirit touches everyone that meets him.

Nurse mare foals are the most delicate of our rescues. Last year we helped 15 precious babies to safety and new homes! These young babies are unfortunately a by-product of one of the worst practices in the equine industry in which infant foals are taken away from their mothers so that the lactating mare can be used to nurse another foal of higher breeding. These babies are orphaned often days after being born and would be left to pass on without the assistance of rescues like Hasty’s Haven.

Hasty’s Haven is dedicated to saving the lives of horses. yearling and foals that were bound for slaughter, victims of starvation, neglect, abandonment and abuse. To date, Hasty's Haven Inc. has helped many Nurse Mare Foals as well as adult horses using our own funds and small donations from friends.

We are so grateful for our friends and supporters that have helped. Saving these lives is not possible with out you! Visit our website, follow our journey, every life is precious and together we can make a difference.
