Sweet Ella was adopted just a couple of days ago from Pickens Humane and is already settling in beautifully with her new family just in time for the holidays! 🎄 She came by for her check-up to make sure she’s happy and healthy and ready for all the cuddles, kid playtime, and bone snacks her little heart desires. Welcome home, Ella! ❤️🐾
*peep Ella’s cheesy chin from her snacks 😆*

Undoubtedly, 2024 has proven to be a challenging year for PCHS and animal organizations across the nation. The year has been marked by adversities such as inflation causing more animals to be forced out of homes, needing shelter, the election cycle, Hurricane Helene, and historically low adoption rates. While we worked determinedly to maintain our usual operations, we suffered a sharp decline in donations, with rising and unexpected expenses depleting funds.
Despite all the debilitating challenges we have faced, we have proudly provided shelter for 317 animals, including 119 from local kill shelters, and secured homes or rescue placement for 294 animals as of today. In addition, we have remained the only facility in Pickens County to accept felines into our program since 2020. Throughout the year, we have hosted numerous fundraisers and community events, as our operations heavily rely on community support and individual contributions—our primary funding source. Although we have managed to persevere in 2024, we find ourselves uncertain about the future of 2025.
The unfortunate truth we are facing is the imminent closure of our facility. Currently, we are at capacity for animals, however, we will not be accepting any new animals into our program, even when space becomes available. Following the reevaluation of our financial status, we will be seeking alternative placements for those in our care, if necessary.
We hold onto hope that, with your support, we can continue to move forward—day by day, week by week, and month by month. We urgently ask you to consider donating to help us keep our doors open and enable us to continue the life-saving work that we have been privileged to do for the past 52 years. We will reassess our critical situation on December 12th, and we remain hopeful of a Christmas miracle.
