We had a wonderful and productive clinic this past weekend with David Wightman.
The heat didn’t hold us back from learning! David is a patient and clear instructor who makes this challenging sport fun!

Looking forward to having David Wightman at Landers this weekend. Always learning more! Auditing is free
Reminder in dressage impulsion is more than the desire to go forward, it’s the elasticity of the horses steps, the suppleness of his back and the engagement of his hindquarters.

Good morning friends! We hope the weekend was beautiful for you and now a new week has begun. It’s Motivation Monday!

Every Monday we will be here talking about different ways to keep our spirits high and how we can stay highly motivated in this beautiful sport.

One way to find encouragement and new ways of seeing things is by seeking out new clinics and learning opportunities! Ans they don’t all have to be with your horse in tow or far away.

KCDS is hosting an unmounted clinic in July. We’re bringing in Performance Dynamics Specialist, Cathy Penrod. Cathy arrives with over 40 years of equestrian knowledge, as well as nearly 30 years of coaching experience.
Cathy has coached American Grand Prix dressage star Charlotte Jorst among others -- but she specializes in helping ALL equestrian riders (regardless of level or discipline!) break through internal barriers. Cathy will teach you ways to conquer fears, overcome nerves and take your riding to the next level and beyond!

Just a few of the new tools you’ll walk away with include learning how to:
• Stop self-sabotage
• Overcome your fears
• Achieve new levels of riding awareness
• Perform without overthinking
• Love to ride again

And Cathy will send you home with lots of materials to help you continue learning even when you’re back in your own barn.

Click on the link below for all the registration details (date, time, location and fees.) And please share this with your friends, your barn, and more. Anyone who rides horses will leave this event feeling more empowered and confident. And confidence is definitely an important part of staying motivated! 🙂

And, as always, we want to hear from all of you!

Let us know -- what things motivate you to strive for new and bigger things in your riding? What do you find to be inspiring? How do you pull yourself out of a slump? What things help you get excited to try something different and set loftier goals?

Have a great week riding! And may hope your motivation stay high! ⭐️

We had a wonderful evening getting educated by Dr. Katie Young, Ph.D Equine Therapist. We learned a lot about body scores and what is correct nutrition for our horses. You can never learn too much about grain and supplements!

Good morning! We’re starting a new series — Motivation Mondays. This sport we all know and love is intensely beautiful and also incredibly challenging. Some days the ride is amazing and we don’t want to leave the barn. And some days it’s really tough and it may be more difficult to stay positive.

Sara McConnell found inspiration to stay involved by, “Going to our local show this past weekend and volunteering with all the other hard working volunteers who do it out of the love of our sport. It was rewarding to see people being able to get experience in the show ring!”

Sara also shared, “I found inspiration for my own riding by
watching Emily Miles, who has been so successful nationally and still supports our shows. I’m a very visual person so getting
to watch Emily Mile’s grace and effective but effortless style in person motivates me to keep striving for excellence! AND TO STRETCH UP!!”

So we want to know from all of you!

Let us know what things motivate you to strive for bigger things in your riding? What do you find to be inspiring? How do you pull yourself out of a slump? What things help you get excited to try something new and set loftier goals?

Good morning! We are excited to spotlight some of our board members so you can get to know them!

Today we meet Barb Patrick — our KCDS Membership Co-Chair.

Barb Patrick is a vital member of the KCDS Board. She has done membership for several years. This year she is co-charing with Ellis Stanton.

Barb records the memberships and record keeping that is required for KCDS and USDF. We sure appreciate her time and commitment to KCDS. We hope you enjoy learning about Barb’s favorite things.

I may have begun what I call “horsemanship” in 2011. Prior to that I did jumpers and then had an 8 year hiatus from riding, prior to dressage.

🌟How long have you been a member of KCDS?

Can’t remember! At least since 1995, but with that 8 year gap before 2011.

🌟Fun Random things to know about YOU...

Did triathlons in addition to dressage until hubby pointed out that those sports, for me, were a contradiction, mentally. Abandoned triathlon after that!

Since COVID, any new recipe that seems promising. Experimenting has been fun!

🌟Favorite show/venue:
KCDS at Longview. Love the laidback atmosphere, camaraderie, and visiting with friends.

How can you have 1? Gordon, my Wuerttemburg jumper and currently my 23 year old Canadian Sporthorse gelding, Volaire. Both heart horses!

🌟Favorite music on your playlist:
There’s a question! Except for opera, what isn’t on my play list?

🌟Favorite book:
Any book by Dick Francis - British racing/sleuthing series. Have read them all.

Thank you for all you do Barb! We are grateful for you! 🙂

Here is some wonderful feedback on the recent educational event “Knowing the Movements” with Jodi Lees.

Kathleen Sales (local dressage trainer and KCDS Member) shares:

“I was excited to attend the “Know the Movements” clinic with KCDS.

As always, gathering together as a group and learning more is energizing and inspiring!

Jodi was wonderful in her presentation of the levels and the movements. I definitely could relate to the things that go wrong! Such as First Level lengthenings in the trot and canter. They start out energetic and coming back is challenging! The judges see it coming and as a rider I try my best to help my horse balance. Super difficult however!

I’m grateful for her R,S,V,P rectangle and 20 meter circle explanation. Also, for 10 meter circles off the rail and riders foot at centerline as opposed to the horse.

It was a packed evening with so much good information!”

Thank you for sharing such great feedback Kathleen! We are thrilled you found it to be an enjoyable, engaging and informative evening.

We are always planning more educational events so be on the lookout for more from KCDS. Learning together as a community is important and so much fun. 😊
