Even though our Labs and Boykins are passionate hunting dogs with industry and endurance, they are friendly and self-aware with regard to people and other breeds. They are a pleasant companion for other aspects of life, gentle with children and a suitable family dog.

Zeke , son of Hudson River Drake, weighs in at 34 pounds with a wavy coat. He received his Hunting Retriever Champion title and Upland Hunter title before the age of 3. Zeke has also competed and won at local Field Trials. He has a great on off switch, he can have fun and play around kids and other dogs or when it’s time he can pick up a limit of birds in the swamps. He is a kind and loving companion.

Another update on 10 month old Legend (FC GRHRCH Maestro x HRCH Eclipse MH22). He’s doing very well on T-Work and learning to be steady at the line. His drive is, well you’ll see in the video. He LOVES to retrieve! He’ll be going to Florida in a couple of weeks, with Blaine, to work on Swim By. So pleased with this big goof!

Legend getting excited about retrieving in water! So proud of this 4 month old! #Legend

Legend has been working hard all week on obedience and his mother, Clip, on Lining Drills (more for me than her). This morning was a little cooler so we had a Good for the Soul day. What fun they had!

Legend retrieving and BRINGING IT BACK! In the past he would bring back sometimes but not consistently but today 100%. I’ve been reviewing my Bill Hillmann videos on Training a Retriever Puppy, trying to build excitement on the retrieving part, apparently it’s working. I’m also trying to have a balance in the training of obedience and the training of retrieving because I don’t what one to take away from the other. The heat is on in the south so I have to do training sessions with him in the early morning. #12weeksold #Legend

Annnnnnd Legend did it!!!! Launched into the water! I’m ecstatic, Wednesday he had little interest in the water, today, with momma Clip’s help he rocked it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been teaching Legend “kennel” using a place board, going into a crate, getting in the golf cart, anywhere that I’d want him to get into something. I use the command “here” instead of ”come” because that’s what we use in competitions. Today I shot a video of teaching him to go up a ramp, onto the tail gate and into a dog box. It’s hard to video and train at the same time, I don’t know how you do it Blaine! The part were I’m laughing is when Legend stuck his head in my treat bag. This was the second time I did this, he’s a very fast learner and treat driven.

Learning Edges

We set up the big outside playground and Clip’s (Maestro x Eclipse) puppies are having a ball. Here’s a video where we are teaching them edges. Featuring my Kennel Manager, Phoebe.

Update: All puppies are sold from this litter. Yeager x Abby have puppies available and ready to go home the week of February 27th. Yeager x Summer puppies grew so fast. They are on the move! Thursday they will go into the Potty Training pen. Still have one male left to reserve from this litter.
