Ruth Helen Wolf Animal Hospital and Vrbac to the rescue!!!!!
As many of you know, the economy has been challenging, Lake County families in need are up by 35% since June 2024 and donations to the pet food pantry have been down by 80% since last January 2024. Its often a struggle to feed our own animals let alone contribute to a pantry most days. We cannot thank the Doctors, Staff and the wonderfully generous clients of Rurh Helen Wolf who knocked it out of the park this year for us. Vrbac was also so so kind in leaving food/product for us this holiday season which is appreciated beyond measure. If this wasnt enough, $107 in cash donations were left for us. This money will be set aside to assist our pantry clients in getting updated vaccines and microchips for their animals.
There just are no words for this blessing today. No words - So grateful!

Behind the scenes:

We started Salvador on his antibiotics this morning for his bone infection so prayers that it knocks it down. He will get one injection every three days x 7 and then we will monitor lump.
He is such a great dragon

I just want to give a great big shout out to everyone who reads our posts and who was kind enough to donate towards our oxygen kits for transports in emergencies. They came today in the mail and will truly be, lifesavers. Peace of mind is everything to a rescuer. -Thank you!

“Salvador” our most rock solid therapy dragon had his veterinary appt today to check out the rock hard lump on his jawline. Dr Quicho took xrays and then we looked at them on her phone together. It appears that Sal has a bone infection from dental disease. We caught it early so we will try and knock it down with antibiotics first and see how far that gets us and for how long. At the end of the day, its likely the infection will keep resurfacing until the diseased teeth are removed and the infected bone along the jaw line is scraped out.

“Oz” update:
Oz continues to be a work in progress but steady he goes. We have safely soaked him daily this week. He has been spending more time at the front of his enclosure. He hasnt been as reactive to moving objects, presence of other animals in the room or someone near his tank. Ive started opening his enclosure and just sitting and talking to him. There is always “ HOPE”

We are celebrating “ Jackpot’s” Adoption Today!
“Jackpot” left today with his new brothers “Apollo” and “Zorro”. They are lucky enough to live with the most amazing family who also adopted “ Tyler” from us years ago. Tyler is a retired research hero and is hands down, one of the best beagles on the planet. Today, was a good day and our hearts are full.

WE DID IT!!!!! A immediate weight has been lifted from our shoulders knowing that we have these to just jump in the car and go when needed. This means so much to us. You have no idea. Feeling helpless in a time of crisis is never a head space that sny of us want to be in. Thank you EVERYONE!!!!!
Our House of Hope prides itself on being proactve in every aspect of our organization. What can we do today to “ prevent” issues moving forward. Our immediate concern in 2015 is our care and ability to transport safely our animals in crisis. The two closest Veterinary Emergency Locations ( Vet Specialties and Premier) have already moved or will be movng farther away in February. We have many super seniors and medically complex animals and immediate supportive transport is often needed.
In light of this new and very real concern, we are asking for donations of the units below ( Small or medium) or funding to be applied for purchase of them so that it can buy our animals in crisis that very crucial extra time. We did purchase a plug in Room Air Oxygen Concentrator last year for the rescue but, we will need portable ones for emergency transport. We would ideally like to have two of the units below. One for our home base ( rescue) to grab and run and the other for our fosters that may be caring for a animal in their home that may be compromised.

Behind the Scenes:
Its super important to get your hands on each of your animals every single day. Its imperative to keep them socialized and to track their health. Salvador and I were taking a break from his exercise program ( like us all, he needs to lose a gram or two🤣). We were also waiting for my Benedryl to kick in as I brushed out all of the rabbits and trimmed nails etc this morning. Yes, this rescuer has horrendous allergies to most animals and always have had. Anywhooooo, long story short, I noticed a lump on Sals jaw bone so we will need to xray that and get on it. He is one of the bestest dragons on the planet. This scares me a bit. Im not going to lie. Praying for abscess and not a tumor as that is how we lost “ Bob” a couple of years ago.
Update:
Sal has a vet appt late afternoon on Monday.

Meet “Patti Pig”
Currently available for adoption to the right home.
Patti came into rescue with her bestie. Unfortunately, her friend passed away peacefully a couple of weeks ago for no obvious reason. We have been closely monitoring Patti to see how she would handle that. Would she be okay as a “ only pig” or will she prefer a new friend to play with? So far so good and that is just where things are at currently. Patti is guesstimated at being 2-3 yrs old. She is okay at being held for awhile and chatters and purs when you come in to feed her in the morning. She is a low key kind of girl that is content with being talked to and interacted with.
