- Kaua'i Humane Society's Transfer Program, which allows us to send our animals to our partner rescues and shelters across the mainland, is one of the lifesaving programs that keep our shelter's animal population manageable, safe, and healthy.

Kaua'i Humane Society is not just an animal shelter—it is a critical part of the community's infrastructure for public health, safety, and compassionate care. With overcrowding at unprecedented levels in our shelter, we're working harder than ever to find loving homes for Kauai's animals, but we can't do it without your help.

Prepare for emergencies to ease stress for you and your pets. Remember, if you have to evacuate, your pets should too, as leaving them behind can lead to loss or harm.

Step 2: Build a Kit for Your Pet
Prepare emergency kits for your pets just as you do for your family. Regularly review contents, especially food and medicines, to ensure freshness.

Step 3: Stay Up To Date
With a plan in place and your kit ready and packed, now it’s best to stay on top of disaster prep by knowing your local pet-friendly shelter and making sure your animal has a current microchip.

- Crisco and Pumpkin Pie are two senior girls who a lot of field-trippers had the pleasure of getting to know in the last couple months. These 9-year olds are proving that it's never too late for a new beginning as they get ready to join their forever families Off-Island!

- Dr. Strange is another senior who found his perfect match Off-Island, with a family who truly understands his needs, and we couldn't be happier!

- It was a great week for local adoptions as well, with so many cute puppies going to loving homes, plenty of foster adoptions, and lots of happy cats!

Let's dive into what you need to know! 👇 🐶 It's important to replace collars as your dog grows ✌️ You should be able to fit 2-3 fingers comfortably between the collar and your dog's neck 🛍️ Visit our Gift Shop or your pet store to find the best options! 🐕‍🦺 Prong Collars, Shock Collars and Gentle Leaders are "unnatural aides" that should only be used with the guidance of a professional trainer 📲 Make sure to keep the contact info on your dog's collar up to date, and get them microchipped, in case they ever get lost! 🦴 Positive reinforcement (treats, praise, etc.) is always the most compassionate and effective training method
