Happy New Year! We hope all our friends have a great 2023! New Years resolutions are not just for people, sometimes pets need them too. Here are a few to help your four legged family members have a healthy and happy 2023.

1. Exercise, pets like people can gain extra weight during the holidays so activities like long walks and chasing the ball in the backyard can help burn those unwanted calories.

2. Regular veterinary visits. Whether it’s a annual exam and vaccinations, or more often check ups for older pets or pets with special needs, regular visits to their veterinarian helps maintain and give you an idea of their health and needs.

3. Grooming. Beyond the aesthetic grooming is essential to the well being of your pet. Overgrown nails and matted fur can cause discomfort to your pet.

4. Fun bonding activities. Whether it’s taking your pet out for a puppacino on a cheat day from all the exercise or maybe planning a trip somewhere with them to the beach or mountains or just taking the time for cuddling on the couch. Bonding is very important for both pets and people.

5. Training. Has your pet been behaving in inappropriate ways the past year? Make a plan for this year to address any behavior issues. Don’t hesitate to seek advice or help from trainers. Regardless of the age all pets can learn to change and that helps reduce stress for both the pet and their family.

Our Story

In 1986, Dr. Gerald opened Abbott Animal Hospital’s doors to the good people and pets of the Lilburn-Tucker area, and his daughter Sarah was always a fixture during those early days. Sarah spent most of her high school and college days doting on the pets, getting to know clients, and learning the ropes of excellent veterinary practice, customer service, and bedside manner.

In 1996, Sarah became Dr. Sarah when she earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. When Dr. Gerald retired in 2005, Dr. Sarah took over as lead veterinarian of Abbott Animal Hospital. Though to this day Dr. Gerald is on-site daily, assisting in surgeries and translating for our Korean clients. He remains an integral part of the Abbott Animal Hospital team and family. We are a small animal clinic with a small staff so that every time you come to see us, you will see a familiar face!
