Buddy was adopted from Ohio SPCA & Humane Society several years ago. He had been returned to the shelter 2X's... I am pretty sure it was because he was waiting for us! 😍

He found himself on the wrong side of the barrier but look how proud he was to make it back to the other side! Buddy is 13 years young.

Happy 3rd birthday to our barn cats Laddie and Rene! (and Charlie who is no longer with us) Barn cats are very different creatures. Every day they show up, is a blessing. The reality that they could get hit by a car or be killed in a fight with another animal is very real and every time they are late for a meal, your mind goes there. Charlie was only with us a few months when that fear became a reality as he crossed the road and was hit.

So we celebrate that Laddie and Rene turned 3 and came home... today😍

PS We often joke we should change our name to Olde Muzzle Manor and Cats. All 5 cats are 4 years old or younger.

Six years ago today, George became a permanent member of OMM. We believe that in George’s heart, he was a “working dog” and George loved to work on the farm. He took his job seriously. He was always ready to protect Nic when she went out to the barn, separate the cats when they were playing too rough and protect every animal as they got their nails cut or eyedrops. As some of the herd approached their final days, he would stay close to them and provide them with extra kisses.

What we didn’t anticipate six years ago, is the hole that George would leave when HE left us. George was the one that got along with EVERYONE and everyone is missing him.

We are beyond grateful for George’s previous family for trusting us to care for him in his final years and allowing us to be a part of his story.

Fred is usually a loner, but sometimes he seems to like hanging out with Riley Rae. At least we think so... they both have very little eyesight left. We trust they know they are together 😀 And last weekend he snuggled with Bella!

One of the blessings of the weekend was being able to have all the critters from OMM West at the OMM East house 😀 This was Bella's first visit to the farm, and she did great!

The dogs are used to being together at T***s and Al’s house on Sunday’s, so having everyone together for a sleepover was a perfect way for George to spend his final days.

Tonight, we are a man down.

With heavy hearts we said goodbye to George. George was our oldest dog (just turned 14) and had been with us the longest of any of our adoptees, at 6 years. George taught us SO MUCH and made us laugh along the way. Oh the stories we could tell…

Last Wednesday we thought we were saying our goodbyes, but our vet gave us some hope that he might recover. We were blessed with 5 extra days.

Ever since George came to the farm, he was a “working” dog, going out with Nic to do night checks in the barn, separating the house cats when they would squabble, being the protector when we took another dog to the vet positioning himself between the vet and the other dog and being a comfort dog for all the other critters that went before him, always giving them one more kiss.

We want to thank everyone who has kept us in prayer and sent words of encouragement. It has been greatly appreciated.

George, you are officially off duty.

We always say that each dog teaches us something new. Well George decided it was time we learn something new. We took him to the vet with the expectation that we were saying goodbye but our vet has given us hope that George may be able to come out of this. So for today, we are blessed with 1 more day with him! All prayers gratefully accepted for George's full recovery.

Barn cat, Laddie, lays in the sacrifice pasture with great confidence that George and Buddy can't get to him. Buddy and George? Not quite sure what to make of all this, especially since the cat in the pasture looks just like indoor cat Curby.

We were sad to hear of the passing of a frequent visitor to OMM. Zoey has been staying with us since 2019 when her family would go out of town. She was a wonderful dog. An easy keeper. She got along with our dogs and LOVED watching life from our front yard. You would never know she was 17ish because in her heart she was still a puppy. Zoey will be missed. Blessed to have been a part of her journey.
