Do you know how to recognize a "summer sore"? I've been seeing a lot of cases lately, including the two horses in the photos (thanks to the owners for letting me use the images here). Check out this article from The Horse, that gives an easy-to-understand overview of the parasitic cause of the disease, including its lifecycle, diagnosis, and treatment.

Looking for someone to help out around our small farm property in Pottstown a few days a week, responsibilities would be varied and mostly outdoors (yard work, helping my other half with construction projects, farm maintenance, etc.) but would not include animal handling. Must be a reliable adult male (sorry ladies, I’m strong and my partner still needs a man to help him with projects) able to lift at least 50 pounds, have own transportation, no drugs/alcohol and keep your political views to yourself when here. Some experience helping with construction and yard work/landscaping would be helpful. Paid hourly each day. Contact me on FB or at 484-447-6945.

Grateful to have been a passenger aboard the Murder Hollow coach, Tantivy, at The Devon Horse Show last week, my first visit inside the Dixon Oval as a participant. The class went off after 10 PM, so no good action photos, unfortunately.
Congratulations to the whole team for a week well done!

Using Assure Guard Gold for excess f***l water syndrome? 💩

I just found out that Arenus has a colic coverage program (unfortunately for standard-sized horses only, not minis) that reimburses for medical AND surgical colics up to $10,000! That means your on-farm emergency colic visits may be covered if you are giving the supplement! Check out the details below to enroll.

Are you looking for equine digestive support? Improve digestion and get peace of mind with the Arenus Colic Assurance Program. Learn more.

Sadly over the weekend I had to say goodbye to two of my oldest (and longest-known) horse patients, Luna S. (pictured below in 2016 trying to carjack me for treats), and Devon M. It is always difficult to let our animal friends go, but comforting to know that they are free of pain, fear and confusion.

Luna's owner made the decision to honor her pony's long life by starting and making the first contribution to a new initiative she has asked to be called "The Luna Fund". This donation-based fund will be used at my discretion to provide some relief to clients with patients in need, and to ease the financial burden of some patients' last veterinary visit.

If you would like to contribute to this small fund, feel free to contact me to arrange. Donations are not tax-deductable, but will be very much appreciated by their recipients. 💜

Whose horse would like Elmer the patchwork elephant if they had these?😭

This was inspired by a conversation I was having with some friends the other day. We were reminiscing about being awarded swimming badges as a child and what the equivalent would be for horses. I didn't have space to include all my ideas in one piece!

❄️It's beginning to look a lot like foaling season! 🙈
I'm expecting to see nearly 30 newborn foals this coming year, so it's time to stock up on some lifesaving IV plasma. This frozen gold-dust is magic for new foals that haven't gotten quite enough of an immune-assist from their mom's first milk, which is called colostrum. Their baby GI tracts are unable to absorb further antibodies from the colostrum after about 12-18 hours, so sometimes vets have to step in and administer some additional antibodies in the form of IV plasma to keep the foals from becoming ill in their first few days of life.
