Last week we said goodbye to one of our trainers who just recently joined us a few months ago. Elaina has done a fantastic job supporting our goals, being a team player, and inspiring the riders she worked with of all ages. While she had planned to be around longer, a timetable for a move to Idaho is coming much sooner for her family.

Elaina was also gracious in working with one of our upcoming trainers who will help fill part of that void and got to shadow with her for a couple weeks.

She was even surprised by the amazing little gifts and a cake from a young girl who was taking lessons with her. Thanks, Kiara! Our customers are truly amazing.

Goodbyes are often not forever, as she may get time before her move to Idaho for another visit or two, but she has ended her regular weekly shifts and scheduled lessons. You might catch her at our playday event next weekend! ;)

Thank you again, Elaina! All the best to you, your husband, and your kiddos on your future endeavors!

We are generally expecting 1.5-2 inches of rain in the Willamette Valley from Friday through Sunday, with 2-3 inches and locally higher amounts at the coast and in the higher terrain of the Coast Range and the Cascades. The heaviest rain is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, with showery weather then lingering through Sunday evening. As we honor and reflect on the 20-years since September 11th, we're reminded that what we have in common as human beings--our love and concern for each other--far outweighs in importance the differences and disagreements that separate us from time to time.

I heard this song for the first time on the radio in the months after the September 11, 2001 attacks. This song is as powerful ten years later as it was the ...

A year ago our entire team of staff and boarders persevered through the challenges and evacuation caused by the Echo Mountain Fire. Countless members of our community, friends, and family members lost their homes, and 1-year later continue to rebuild. It was an event that showed the the best of those throughout our great State.

We couldn't be more thankful for the countless individuals who came from all over to assist us during the evacuations. From the contractors at the bridge that helped us get our horses across, to those who came from the afar with their horse trailers, to all the volunteers who worked with our staff for nearly two weeks while displaced in three separate counties. You were all amazing and still very much appreciated.

We know the circumstances with our pandemic have made this last year difficult for many, including to get together. We have wanted to host a appreciation event but have continued to find that difficult during these times. We hope future conditions will make this possible.

Below is a video we provided that showcases much of the efforts involving our stable during the fire last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gknmVmOFSVw&t

This video gives a brief reflection on the events of the evacuation during the Echo Mountain Fire in which, like many others, Rock Creek Stables had to evacu...

The position is for Stable Hand & Outfitter Guide opportunity. Position may be just for Stable Hands if required certifications and experience do not exist to be an outfitter guide.

Outfitter Guides get pooled tips.

We are looking for a motivated worker who enjoys working with horses that can provide consistency and quality customer service. This is not a job for those who frequently need schedule adjustments or last-minute call-ins. Ensuring we take care of our horses is a top priority. We are the largest and premier horse boarding facility on the central Oregon Coast.

Depending on experience, this position will involve an initial training and shadowing period of 1-3 weeks.

$13 rate during all initial training, with raise upon completion in 1-3 weeks.

JOB DUTIES

--- GUIDES ONLY: Tacking, grooming, and saddling horses. Engaging with customers and guiding a small string of 6-8 horses with customers on trail rides.

---Feeding horses, rinsing and filling water buckets. Monitoring of water and hay intake.

---Mucking out (cleaning) stalls and providing bedding.

---Cleaning of stable common areas by sweeping and raking, and performing minor repairs on fixtures. Ability to perform minor fixtures on electric pasture fencing.

---Turning horses in and out to pasture and paddocks per regular schedules, and as requested by boarders.

---Observe and report any signs of sickness or injury of horses.

---Handle one-off sales of grain, bedding, tack, etc, as well as service requests from our members.

---Operation of farm equipment, namely a tractor to handle raking of riding arenas.

---Perform other general labor, including mowing and w**d whacking, brush cutting, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

---Must have a valid drivers license. Experience towing horse trailer is a bonus, but not required.

---Drug free workplace. We operate farm equipment and handle horses, so no exceptions.

---Ability to lift and carry items (grain and pellets bags) of about 50lbs, and lifting and moving of 100lb hay-bales into carts.

---Pass a background check. We have children around our barn.

---Previous horse handling experience

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Employees who have horses are not required to board at our facility, and it's actually preferred if they don't.

We do not trade work for board or do anything "under the table". This is not only illegal (tax evasion and labor violations), but it typically results in the workers making far less than minimum wage. We are committed to our workers being compensated fairly and holding firm expectations on the care of the horses entrusted to our care.
