UPDATE:
Unfortunately, Tumble passed away overnight. He started seizing uncontrollably.
Thank you all for your prayers and positive vibes. Losses are always hard on our staff, but knowing that you all are there with us just as much for the sad times as the good times means the world to us. We are always going to continue to try. We are always going to continue to learn and save more.

Another day, another emergency. Tumble was potentially exposed to toxins and is not doing well physically or neurologically. Weāre rushing him to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and need all the positive energy we can getā¦ ā¤ļøš±
Do you remember recently we shared the story of the cage of cats found in a parking lot, and the gentleman brought them to our Marysville Resource Center? It was the week when everything that could happen, happened. Well, here they are then... and here they are now! Mom (Brigid) and Dad (Aengus) are available for adoption! They're bonded and as sweet as they can be! Meet them this Friday or Saturday at FieldHaven, or fill out an adoption application to schedule an appointment. They're ready for a home of their own! P.S. The kittens are doing well and getting big and strong!

Did you know we have a Rodent Ranger program? It's where we carefully match Rodent Ranger candidates (our outdoor, often not so domestic, working felines) with appropriate homes. It's not an easy task but Jen, who many. of you know, has been making matches for more than 20 years! She carefully screens applicants to ensure they have the right set up and commitment to set Rodent Rangers up for success. If you've passed Jen's scrutiny, you should consider yourself a top-notch Rodent Ranger home!
She is so particular because she knows that it's extremely difficult to relocate outdoor cats. It is something we do only when we've determined an indoor home is likely not going to be successful and it is not possible to return them to their original location. Over the years, Jen has honed her imprinting process to give Rodent Rangers the best chance for a successful relocation.
These three were carefully placed at Charlebois Farms in Portola Valley and Saratoga, and we love how spoiled they are!

šØšØ Weāre in crisis mode, and itās not good. šØšØ
We need HELP. We freaking need help.
This is long but please read it. And weāll be sharing more stories that exemplify why weāre begging for helpā¦ and why weāre in crisis mode.
PART ONE
Audra, our Marysville manager, was speeding down the highway when she saw something small moving near the shoulderākittens. SEVEN TINY KITTENS. They were clustered together as cars zoomed by at 70 mph. She pulled over as quickly and safely as she could, adrenaline rushing. She knew she had to help them.
She stepped out of the car, eyes darting between the kittens and the speeding traffic, the wind from passing cars whipping against her. As she approached the kittens scattered, darting in every direction, terrified. Panic set in as she fumbled for her phone, calling a coworker for backup. She could not let the kittens get to the road.
"Get here fast," she said, voice shaking, trying to keep an eye on all of them at once.
When Michael, her coworker, arrived with a net, they both scrambled, trying to catch the scared kittens before it got dark. One by one, they caught six of them, their soft, trembling bodies wriggling as they were scooped them up. But the seventhāhe was fastādisappeared into the brush, too scared to come close.
It was almost completely dark and they hated the thought of leaving one behind. They set a trap, hoping the last kitten would find their way inside by morning.
The six kittens were set up at our Marysville Resource Centerā¦ set up in kennels that we had *just* emptied.
The trap remains empty.
This is the 6th emergency weāve had in a week, and that doesnāt even count the several others who, heartbreakingly, didnāt make it.
We need HELP.
We will go above and beyond for those who need us the most, but we need help. First and foremost, we donāt have enough people. We need volunteers and fosters. We donāt have enough supplies, and we donāt have unlimited funding.
It wasn't even a week ago that the doors were locked for the night and a man pulled up with 7 kittens and mom. He said his wife told him "drive out to FieldHaven and drop them off."
Jen was still there when he arrived. She called Joy, our founder who lives onsite, for help. Then she called the wife, who didn't understand. She thought it was fine to drop them off, after all, "that's what we're here for, right?" She did not understand the reality of staffing, funding, space, medical needs, and everything else, not to mention that it was late.
The husband admitted he was just trying to do what his wife told him to do. He was empathetic but said this is the third litter this cat had in their yard. We asked why he didn't get her spayed, and while it was not our norm, our frustration and exhaustion were showing. We were overwhelmed enough already! We walked him through our small shelter, showing him there was no space for even one cat, let alone the 8 he intended to drop off. Oh, and one of the females is pregnant, so there was that.
We offered to provide cages, bedding, food, and other supplies so that he would take them home and put them in his garage until a plan could be made. We then set up an assembly line to weigh, vaccinate, and microchip them, and we gave them all a flea treatment and dewormer. We trained the husband on how to do it all and gave him instructions for setting them up at his house, as well as care and what to expect.
We admitted to him that we were not happy when he showed up but the fact that he was willing to help and didn't understand that we weren't just a "walk-up depository for unwanted cats" lessened our frustration. We explained we're not funded for situations like this and what our community obligations are (and are not). While most shelters and rescues are struggling, there are specific ones (often government-funded) that exist for situations like this.
The good news is the kittens are sweet and appear healthy. At some point they w
Ozzie is loving his new enrichment of bird watching!
We have a TV in the shelter where we can connect to YouTube. We play Cat TV (it's free) and he loves it!
Ozzie is a resident cat (along with Pete) who entertains staff and volunteers all day. He's also supposed to supervise the clinic staff but he's often found sleeping... or watching TV. Maybe he should be fired?
Raise a paw if your cats love Cat TV too!
Harris is feeling the love and we have wonderful news! ā¤
First, Harris is sitting up on her own, and had her IV removed, and one of the best UC Davis veterinarians is going to foster her for us. Harris is getting discharged today and will be under the watchful eye of Dr. Vernau! She is maintaining off the IV glucose and slowly, very slowly, improving neurologically. She may never be completely normal, but to us, she will be just perfect. We believe this little treasure feels your collective love and support!
Second, we reached our fundraising goal! We actually surpassed it with the match, and while we know she'll need continued care, anything raised above and beyond will help other kitties just like her - so THANK YOU! We are so blessed to have you in our corner. We could not save these precious lives without you! ā¤
