Is this heat (and now fires!🔥) stressin' anyone else out?? 😫
You know our poor livestock animals are sure feeling it!
Since they can't tell us how stressed they are by the heat and smoke, a few signs to look for are:
🤒 an animal with its head down, looking like it can't get enough air
👎 a wider than normal stance, usually standing in one spot, lethargic
😧 open mouth breathing (panting), and elevated heart rate-- big sign of distress for most livestock animals, and needs to be taken seriously and acted upon quickly.

How can we help our critters manage all this stress?
🧊💦 Cool, fresh water is #1 in helping keep animals cool,
but just as important as providing the water is making sure they are drinking it!
🧂🧂🧂 salt is a key mineral for year round health, but it has an even bigger role in your animals health during the heat and stress of the summer months, it makes them want to drink more water! Plain white salt is sufficient, but a balanced mineral program will bring even greater stress reduction benefits to your herd.

💧Hydration is key: Provide the right chicken waterer. Size matters! Clean, cool water is essential. Follow the general rule of providing 500 milliliters of fresh water per bird per day. This equates to one gallon for every seven adult birds.
🌳🌲Dense shade- under layered plants/trees with moisture is the best! But any where to get out of direct sun light is a must.
💦👣🛀 Keep an area of the ground wet with cool water for wet toes and moist dust baths.

Then be sure to come back at 10 am when we start to sell and get your chicks! Based on demand between 8:30-10am we will determine if a limit will be applied to any of the chick breeds to make sure everyone who wants some gets some!
