ATTENTION CLIENTS!!

With the hotter weather finally coming in we, want to remind everyone of the dangers of heat stroke and the burning of paw pads that comes with it! There have already been cases of heat stroke seen this year. It does not take long for our pet's body temperature to rise in these conditions. Especially brachycephalic breeds (short muzzles), darker coated dogs and double coated dogs. It also does not take much time for their paw pads to burn on hot asphalt when being walked during the summer. We want our clients and patients to enjoy the summer and all the activites that come with it, but neither of these conditions are fun.

Please read below for symptoms of heat stroke and feel free to SHARE this reminder! If you are concerned your pet may be suffering from heat stroke, immediately take them to your vet or veterinary emergency service for care. The quicker you act, the better the chance they have at recovering.

As part of our celebration for our 50th Anniversary please enjoy something shared by a long time client Lynn

I started going to Pitts Veterinary Clinic when I was a child. I am in my early sixties now and still take all my animals to see Dr. Mark Falloon.

Pitts Clinic was built less than a mile away from our home when I was growing up. From a young age, I started feeding stray cats and befriending other animals that came into our backyard. When a cat had an abscess or was found hit by the Rock Island train, (where the current bikepath runs now), I would tell my parents it had to get help from Dr. Terry and Dr. Carol. My parents knew they wouldn't win that battle so we would hop into the car and take the cat to the clinic. I was even known to find a cardboard box and carry the animal to the clinic before the bike path ran along the highway! Mind you, that is when the highway only was a lane going east and west!! Both Dr. Terry and Dr. Carol signed my autograph book when I was in fifth grade and I still have that book with the red cover.
As I got older, there was no other clinic I would take my domestic pets to when they needed any care or vaccines. Dr. Randall cared for many of my cats. Soon I started seeing, Dr. Falloon, he is our current vet and the "veteran" of the group of doctors they have at Pitts. He is the one I will take all of our animal to see. Dr. Falloon has the old bedside manner that Dr. Terry and Carol had! This is appreciated more than most people know.

I have seen the additions added to the south of the clinic and now the newest update since Dr. Terry and Dr. Carol sold the business. I have had many animals euthanized at the clinic (more than I want to count).

About twenty years ago, my family became members of Wildlife Rescue Team, Inc. It was wonderful to learn that Pitts was the clinic that gave the non-profit group a wonderful discount to help with the wildlife. Dr. Terry, Carol and Dr. Falloon have taught our members so many things about caring for the injured wildlife. I can't count the number of geese, turtles, ducks and even pelicans that I have personally taken to the clinic for help. They believed in giving back to our community and helped so many non-profits over the years. Many things have changed. We will continue to bring our pets to see Dr. Falloon as long as he is still in practice. I always enjoy seeing the techs that have helped with our animals over the many years they show such compassion and love.

I have many, many fond memories over the past fifty years of having Pitts Veterinary Clinic care for all the animals we have taken there. We will continue to add to those memories. Thanks to all the staff at Pitts!

Happy Monday and holy cow we are already into June. You know what that means?! We are a month away from the 4th of July. NOW is the time to start getting your pet's anxiety medications so you can ensure you have them on hand. As we know the folks of Nebraska shoot fireworks prior to the 4th of July. You may want to start giving your pets these medications before the fireworks start. If you feel that your pet's medications did not help enough last year, call us now so a vet can change the medications, or even add an additional med to help! If you have any other questions on how to help your pet feel safe during this time, do not hesitate to call. We are here to answer your questions! 😺🐶

Today marks Dr. Forgey's last day at Pitts. Dr. Forgey was accepted to a rotating small animal internship program at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. This will be her first step to becoming board certified in soft tissue surgery. Dr. Forgey leaves us with this message "I will miss my patients that I have watched grow over my 7 years at Pitts and the many clients whom I've created relationships with. Thank you for letting me be the one to provide care and love your animals".

Though we will miss Dr. Forgey dearly, we are so happy for her and wish all the luck in her new endeavors. She has always been passionate about animal care and now she gets to expand her surgical knowledge. Thank you for your 7 years of dedication and care for your patients!

Are you tired of your pet's bad breath smacking you in the face? Do you think it's time for a dental? From now until July 31st you can save $50 off their pre-dental bloodwork! We have a few options when it comes to bloodwork, so we request you please schedule a presurgical exam, and a doctor will determine what is best for your furry friend. The presurgical exam itself is free and helps us determine the condition of your pet's teeth and overall health.

As always if you have any questions reach out to our wonderful front desk staff at (402)423-4120 for answers 😁
