This isn’t the best quality because I was filming and training at night, but this is how you teach your dog several things. I am working on teaching them to sit, teaching them the word “treat,” and teaching them that jumping gets nothing from me.
Depends on the pups how fast they learn these things. I keep working on it with repetition.
These guys are 9 weeks old.
Tilly
Tilly came to us Saturday as a new foster. She’s very timid, so she had to be on leash outside until we could catch her. This is her first time outside off leash. Yay Tilly!
Here is my first scent trial run away from our club building.
Who can guess all the things I did wrong?
Rocky got 6 of 6 runs! Yay buddy!
Introducing dogs can take time. Rocky (adult Boxer mix) and Mazie (foster puppy) finally played really well together last night and we’re briefly on the couch at the same time chilling.
Rocky gets frustrated that Mazie licks his face and is completely submissive, rolling on her back all the time.
Mazie is scared of Rocky’s size and licking faces is natural puppy behavior.
Knowing when to let them continue playing and when to step in is key.

Foster puppy adventures part 2!
Our foster puppies are getting used to a bunch of changes all at once. Cones of shame, collars, leashes. (Mazie says “different but ok.” Emma says “I don’t know about this; better to just stand still.” And Ben says “Absolutely not!” and panic follows.)
After speaking with my partner, I decided to share the video behind this post.
Remember to have fun with your dogs! If we think about when our dogs are having the best times, it often coincides with “naughty” behavior. Grabbing something and running. Grabbing pants while you’re trying to put them on, making you almost fall over.
Pets are here for such a short time. Remember to play games even if they’re “naughty”!
Mazie has a mostly white body and dark face. Ben has a white face and brown body. Emma has the darkest face and a brown body.
Emma is starting to untuck her tail and show her playful side.
It’s been 8 weeks since surgery, and this is Rocky’s first sanctioned zoomy! I love that it took him a second to figure out he could run!
Sometimes you don’t realize where your training is. As I explained in the video, the other day I said that it’d be nice to have a dog that walks nicely on leash. We’ve done a lot of training to get him here. He used to pull like a freight train, jump up grab really tight and hump me, and chewed on my arm to the point of leaving bruises. This is Rocky now. Love this boy! 💜💜💜
This is Rocky’s 2nd agility competition (and mine). This isn’t a cue, but he sure had a blast! Lol. We q’d 2 of 10 tries and we were so, so close a number of other times. He’s unpredictable off leash. We’ll keep trying!
I compete for fun. We had a lot of that.
This is Rocky and Milo. When I got Rocky, the brindle Boxer mix, he had a lot of bad behaviors. He would jump up and hump, chew on my arm leaving bruises, fight other dogs. The first 6 months were hard! He couldn’t sleep unless kenneled and I was reluctant to kennel him at first. Most of his behaviors were fear related; some were dominant. I can’t believe how far he’s come!
He’s now competing in agility, rally, and obedience. He’s a dog that I can use to introduce to other dogs. He’s excellent at giving unruly dogs limits without being too harsh.
This dog has been the most challenging dog that I’ve ever trained. It’s not the easy dogs that increase your ability and understanding of dogs. It’s the difficult dogs that make you grow.
Also Milo is available for adoption through K9 Freekz Rescue of Kearney. He is mostly deaf and blind in one eye. He is super sweet! He’s about 9 months old and has learned a lot about being a well-mannered dog.

This is my reactive girl,Ireyna (black and tan), playing with another goofy foster. Can’t believe how far she’s come!
Ireyna has been looking for her forever home for 2 years now. She’s available through Heartland German Shepherd Rescue. She’s about 7.
The white one is Milo. He’s about 8 months old. He’s mostly deaf and blind in his left eye. He’s been with me for a month or two and would love to be in a home with another playful pup. He’s available through K9 Freekz.
I think these two are going to be fine! Yay!
