When she came in, you couldn't get near her. She would back into a corner and cower and shiver all over. Forget about putting a lead rope on her or even touching her. She still needs her shots and her teeth examined, so we are working with 'good touch', 'bad touch' and working with her mouth. Sophie did so well today, even picking up her front feet for our trainer Pam.

All the horses had baths on Friday and we kept them in their stalls until the Open House started winding down. Everyone had a great roll, and Jenevieve acted like the Energizer Bunny, there wasn't anything that was going to stop her! Thank You everyone for coming out and supporting the very important work we do!

AHHR exists to offer help to horses and horse owners who find themselves in a situation where the basic needs of the animal cannot, or are not being met. We offer shelter for horses and other animals too large to be housed by the S.P.C.A and also in times of need such as war, fires or floods. Sometimes when we rescue these horses, they can be part of a cruelty seizure, possibly abandoned and a lot of times they are just unwanted. We run entirely on volunteer efforts, which is why fundraising events like Raise the Region are so important to us. Our volunteers do everything from running our social media to cleaning the barn and feeding the animals. We advocate for community involvement by attending parades and community picnics, traveling to nursing homes and schools, and encouraging people to attend our own Open House.
