Cooper needs a particularly special home. He is an older boy at approximately 10 years old and absolutely loves attention and is the sweetest thing! He isn't a long-term resident but we want to ensure to keep it that way.
Cooper is heartworm-positive and it is at an advanced stage. Our vet examined him and determined that Cooper's condition was too advanced to go through heartworm treatment as he most likely wouldn't survive it. Additionally, Cooper will come with a neuter exemption and not be neutered as the vet felt that it was too risky to put him under anesthesia for the surgery.
That is why we need the perfect family for Cooper. He still has quite a spark for life left and lots of love to give but we need an adopter that understands his condition is going to continue to progress. We often think of the type of adopter that we need for Copper as someone who understands it as a hospice-type situation. A home that is going to show him love and compassion, keep him comfortable through the good and bad times, and a home that understands that they may have to make the decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge at some point if his condition gets to the point that he is suffering.
We know that is a lot to ask of anyone but we also know that there are amazing souls out there that open their homes to pets like this to ensure that they have a warm bed to sleep in and a loving family to see every day for no matter how much time they have left, regardless of if it is 6 months or 3 years.
