Mexican Free Tailed Bat

When it comes to bat speicmens it always in the best interest of the species. This is genuinely one of the few times I feel comfortable with providing a bat specimen. Typically if you see a bat that has been mummified or plastic wrap sealed with staples on a piece of cardboard it was kill for the purpose of preserving for the oddities community from foreign spaces. Typically those people do not care what they are doing as long as they get some money. I do not encourage those behaviors what so ever. Typically they are not preserved correctly either and you end up with a rotten specimen full of bugs. Even Etsy has recently banned the sale of bats due to scientist discovering that a species that is becoming critically endangered is due to the oddities community and want for preserved bats.

This specimen is a bit special. They were collected from an abandoned biological warehouse full of old preserved wet specimens ranging from bats to frogs and even plants. Based on the way it was preserved, I consider it an antique specimen.

These are one of the few bat species that are not protected by the federal Endangered Species Act because they currently flourish within North America and are considered least concerned. They are not CITES protected.

This is an over 3 foot long Reticulated Pytho (Malayopython reticulatus). I was able to use this beautiful piece of glass with the power of 3D printing to properly seal this speicmen.

This specimen is just a beautiful reminder that the way we see skeletal articulations are never 100% accurate to the specimen. Really being able to see how the bones lay between the different tissues within the body through diaphonization is truly a magical experience.
