Cade Rice Performance Horses

Cade Rice might not be a name known far and wide in ProRodeo, but among the true hands of the horse industry, Rice breathes rare air.

Rice is a two-time American Rope Horse Association World Champion on the heel side, and the only man to have accomplished that feat back-to-back on the same horse, Sevens Star Glo. Rice also won the American Quarter Horse Association’s Senior Heading World Championship on Sevens Star Glo just two weeks after winning that second ARHFA heeling title.

Rice, who cut his teeth working under AQHA World Champion rope horse trainer Clay Logan for years, grew up in a family of cutters, with his passion in the rodeo arena shining through early. Rice bull dogged as well as team roped all through high school, and he made the College National Finals Rodeo twice in the steer wrestling, in addition to the team roping, too.

“I’ve been trying to get into the Timed Event for the last six or seven years,” Rice said. “But I didn’t have a PRCA number, and nobody knew who I was. Colby Lovell (who heads for Rice at the futurities) and (cattle contractor) Bobby Joe Hill finally told them I was legit, not just somebody trying to get in.”

The only new-to-Rice event is the steer roping, but he’s been hard at work on it since finding out he had a shot at the Cinch Timed Event Championship in November.

“Brad Lund, Neal Smith, Scott Snedecor and Terry Butts have helped me with the tying,” Rice said. “It’s a team effort. Brad sent me a horse. Tee Woolman has been pumping me up, and I won the busting at Andrews in early January. I’ve been working at the timing from the slack and the first jerk to getting my leg out to getting to the steer. That’s been the toughest. The horn roping hasn’t been that tough. I’ve waved it off some, missed the left horn on a few. But it’s a work in progress.”

This horse continues to amazes us and proves to excel across multiple events! It’s a true testament to the foundation this horse has from the breeding Marshall Wier created. His trainability to surpass our expectations as a 2x ARHFA Heeling World Champion and now the 2023 AQHA Senior Heading World Champion! Truly a remarkable horse!

He’s currently leading the AQHA Super Horse standings with two events remaining. A big thank you to Jordan Allyn Performance Horses for heeling behind us all week!

The Cornhusker Classic AQHA and Futurity Show was a great show this past weekend!

We need to give a shout out to a couple horses that did outstanding in the Open Heeling Futurity finals!

JUNGLE CAT owned by Brian & Amy Bush, won 4th overall and placed 2nd in the first round of the heeling.

ALL BAY REY, owned by Billie Aylesworth, finished 7th overall and won the second round in the heeling.
