What makes a good horse? My grandpa used to say that the more you can do with one, the more you can use them, the better they would be.
Our goal here ar HPH is to make user friendly horses.
To us that means if you need or want to go catch or move cows, pony c**ts, lope down the road, rope the dummy, win the roping/barrel race, or just trail ride, you can.
When your c**t leaves here they will have the tools and willingness to do whatever you ask of them.
Below are some still shots of our 4 yr old Grace. She is by Slick By Design x Oklahoma Fuel.
She is helping one of our outside horses gain a little bit more respect. We are very proud of her and her ability to step in wherever we need her.
She also gives pretty good pony rides 😉. (See comments for video)

It’s hard not to get excited when you get something like this during a first ride!
This is just a short clip of “Emma’s” first ride and to say we can’t wait to see Sarah on this one is an understatement!
“Emma” is by Eddie Stinson and out of a Driftwood mare.

This is great advice! There are several talented trainers and c**t starters in this area especially- but it all comes down to what and who fits for you and your horse personally.

Do your research before you send a horse out for training.

You are just as much responsible as the trainer if your horse comes back in poor condition.

Find out what the feed program is. Go visit your horse or require regular photos and or videos—especially in this age with technology there are zero excuses for not receiving photos/videos.

Don’t choose your trainer from the win column. Just because someone is a great competitor does not always mean they are good trainers or horsemen. Go see their facility. Make sure it meets your standards.

Use trainers that have a similar style to you if you plan to ride behind them.

Communicate with the trainer.

Bottom line:
Do your homework and know where you are sending the horse.
