Summer is here! And so are the mosquitoes 🦟🤬 If you haven't had a chance to have your horses vaccinated this year make sure to do so sooner rather than later. Mosquitoes carry EEE and West Nile Virus, both of which are highly pathogenic to horses. EEE in particular will kill over 90% of affected animals! It's been a busy spring here at Rivendell! Taylor is having a blast taking over the office (and occasionally joining Dr. Dorothee on morning emergency road calls). Our new office hours are Tuesday-Friday 10-2. The remaining time during the week as well as on Saturdays we monitor the office phone and will get back to you as we are able to. Or look forward to hearing Taylor's friendly voice the next morning :)

Today is a really weird day. We had a lovely little fare-well lunch for Dawn, who is at the office for the last day today. For over eight years she has kept the practice running when we were busy on the road or in the clinic. She is by far the kindest person I have ever met, and we are wishing her all the best in this new chapter of her life. Thank you, Dawn, for all you have contributed to the wellbeing of Rivendell and its clients and patients!

Who has the best Vet Tech program in the country? SUNY Canton, of course! And not just because I teach there now ;) More importantly, we have hired our second graduate of the program, the wonderful Ms. Taylor B. She will be taking over Dawn's position, who will sadly leave us at the end of this month to start a new chapter in her life. In addition to that Taylor will also be assisting me with appointments in the clinic. Welcome, Taylor!

Call for photos!

I am planning a talk for later this spring on breeding season management and lambing and kidding. In hopes of making it both interesting and representative, I'd like to include lots of client photos. Photos of lambs and kids, rams and bucks, does and ewes, bottle babies and dams successfully raising litters, jugs and maternity pens, sick babies and healthy babies, you name it! Please let me know if you would like photo credit or would like to remain anonymous.

We have a plan! For everyone who signed up for our trailer loading clinic, start time is 9 AM on Saturday March 8! Duration will be 3-4 hours at least. Refreshments will be available for purchase curtesy of Northern Exposure Pony Club. The event is graciously hosted by Honeydew Acres at 169 Post Road, Canton NY 13617. They have a beautiful large arena, so the event will go on rain or shine. *If time allows* DJ will be working with individual owners and their horses to help with particular problems. Late signups and walk-ins are welcome (people only, not horses - if you wish to bring your horse to the clinic to get help please contact us ahead of time)
