Super fun and challenging training weekend. Love learning new things, so jazzed about technical rescue techniques, and really admire and respect the dedication and endurance of my LAR teammates.

Super fun and challenging weekend in operations and equipment training with my RVR LAR team members and super cool ASAR instructors Carla Lewis and Cathy Hammack.

As usual, I learned a LOT and can’t WAIT for the next opportunity to advance my knowledge with large animal rescue technician training or rope rescue technician training. Until next time!

This morning I had the privilege of transporting two horses 🙂

The first was Ke, a large thoroughbred gelding rescue that was adopted from RVR Horse Rescue. The second was a sweet chestnut mare named Rose that I moved to her new boarding home. Rose was previously a non loader that I worked with a few weeks ago with the help of a couple Rainer friends. She also got worked with yesterday by Skipper Calder, pastor of Cowboy Up Church. Today she walked right on the trailer.

Love learning new skills! This weekend, I am participating in a 4-day floodwater/swiftwater rescue operations class to add to my overall large animal rescue operations training with RVR Horse Rescue. Today was Day 3 and we spent all day in the water practicing slow boat skills on moving water, throwing rope bags to swimmers, coming alongside and capturing swimming dogs, transporting crated dogs on foot in flowing water, rescuing and being rescued after floating through a bridge tunnel. We had a great time and I am learning SO much! Eager to see how we wrap it up tomorrow.

Just finished the first day of a four day flood/swift water large animal rescue training by ASAR EERULAR with the LAR team from RVR Horse Rescue and local fire rescue personnel. Today was web and rope work, with a quick refresher on a simple 3 to 1 pulley system and a transport hitch. Tomorrow we learn to drive boats and start slack water rescue scenarios, followed by a day and a half of swift water work. So excited for the next few days! http://eerular.org/floodwater-animal-rescue/

Sometimes they load easy, and sometimes they don’t. I don’t want to force a horse to load unless it’s an emergency. Today was not an emergency. Did we make it to where we wanted to go on time? Nope. But taking the time to really train, for it to be a positive experience for the horse, and not rush the trust, is far more effective in the long run and better for the horse. Today was six hours well spent. Calm, consistent training and trust-building ended with several loads and unloads and even went for a short ride to seal the deal. High five 🙌🏻

Feeling really REALLY good! 🙂 🙂 tonight I had the privilege of loading a rescue horse to return home after evacuation, a mare that they have not been able to get loaded up to go home. My best friend met me At the evacuation Barn and, with a little help from my gelding Kenya, we corralled her and got her loaded up, and we accomplished it quickly and without a whole lot of stress on the mare. It makes me really happy, because i was told she would’ve been euthanized tomorrow if we had not been able to load her to get her home. This poor rescue mare has been through a lot, with scars on her legs and blind in one eye, she also obviously has some PTSD. I’m very thankful for my horse Kenya, who was an absolute champ and a good trailer buddy for her. He was everything I needed him to be tonight. I’m really really glad that I was able to load her tonight, and I really thank the Lord for listening to my prayers and keeping us safe and giving me a spirit of discernment to know if and when to say when.
