Update: Diamond has been adopted. Thank you for the shares, comments & apps!
🐾🩷

Diamond was purchased by a kind man to get her out of a bad situation. He's been working with her ever since to prepare her for a family of her own.

Here are Diamond's details:

🐾 She is a 5-month-old Olde English Bulldog puppy.
🐾 She LOVES food, scratches, and attention.
🐾 She's a little shy around new people and hesitant around new areas.
🐾 She gets very excited around other dogs and jumps in their face but if they do much, she lays down immediately.
🐾 She tests you when you tell her no, but then complies. (typical bully pup)
🐾 She is leash trained
🐾 She is crate trained
🐾 She is mostly potty trained, but it's still a work in progress.
🐾 She will be spayed prior to adoption
🐾 She's had her puppy shots.
🐾 She is located in the North Central Texas area. (Out-of-area adoptions considered for an approved adopter who is willing to travel to N Central Texas to pick her up.)

Important note:

Diamond is not an ABTRR dog, but we are working with her guardian to help place her in a wonderful home.

ABTRR has committed to helping screen potential adopters to ensure her safety and a great match. Potential adopters must complete our online adoption application and be willing to undergo our screening and home visit process in order to adopt.

Hello, Boston Terrier Nation!

As many of you already know, American Boston Terrier Rescue & Rehabilitation's mission and focus over the past 10-11 years transitioned to healing and rehabilitating senior and special needs dogs.

We realized after a decade and a half of working in the rescue arena that while we love all dogs (especially Bostons!), our hearts were truly with the most overlooked and least adoptable dogs out there - and that's when American Boston Terrier Rescue 2.0 (aka American Boston Terrier Rescue & Rehabilitation) was hatched.

One result of this change is that many of the dogs in our Foster Program end up staying with us for quite a long time (and sometimes forever). This means that we cannot rely on adoption fees to help offset our considerable expenses, so we spend a lot of time and effort on fundraising efforts. We also have wish lists built on a few different platforms, which help us a great deal.

We are often asked how someone can help support the dogs in our program... Our first answer is always, "Apply to be a foster home!", but we realize that's not always possible. With that in mind, we developed wish lists on three popular platforms to help us stock our food/treat pantry and offset the costs of supporting a senior and special needs foster population.

*Cuddly: https://cuddly.com/shelter/412605

If you'd like to help support seniors like Maggie and Winnie, or dogs with special needs like Charlie and Romeo, or any of the numerous dogs currently undergoing heartworm treatment, we invite you to take a look at our wish lists and send a gift to a dog who touches your heart. ❤

Thank you

Check out this wonderful feature article about one of our own!

Thuy-Linh M. Carroll adopted ABTRR alum, Buster, when he was just a pup. Her love for Buster was evident in everything she did - and it continues today.

Congratulations, Thuy! Your ABTRR family is immensely proud of you. We are so grateful for giving Buster the absolute BEST life a boy could dream of!

I get to share Buster’s love every day. Thank you for interviewing me, ! 👩🏻‍🍳🐾🫶🏼 https://www.dallasnews.com/food/2024/03/14/meet-thuy-linh-carroll-the-dallas-baker-who-traded-chemistry-for-a-career-in-sweets/

🐾♥🐾 ABTRR Foster Spotlight: Red Maggie 🐾♥🐾

Good morning, everybody! This morning we'd like to introduce you to an absolutely lovely older girl named Maggie (aka Red Maggie or Little Mama) who is currently being fostered in North Texas.

Maggie is a pretty red girl who was found as a stray and never reclaimed. She's a sweet gal who had multiple mammary tumors removed and was spayed upon entering our program. She appears to be hard of hearing, but not completely deaf.

She is brilliant with kids and other dogs, potty trained, and a friendly little lap dog that wags her nub of a tail anytime you even look her way. She is loving and extremely quiet.

Her foster family has fattened her up some from the gaunt figure she was when they picked her up, and all of her surgical wounds have long since healed. She is mostly deaf which does not seem to bother her at all. Her eyes are clear, and her teeth are in very good condition for an older dog.

Potential adopters should understand that Maggie is a TRAVELER. If she is able to get out the door, she will just keep walking and cannot hear calls to come back.

On the flipside, Maggie is also a stage 5 clinger. This is a bonus for a person looking for a constant companion, but for those who prefer a more independent BT, Maggie would not be the right fit. She stays with her person all day, every day.

Maggie would probably be an amazing choice for an older person who is looking for a loving, sweet, joyful companion. She weighs very little and even helps you pick her up with a *hop* into your arms. She LOVES being picked up. She also enjoys sleeping ALL day.

Maggie is available for adoption now and would LOVE to find her forever family. If you have any questions about her, please drop a comment below or contact us at [email protected].

To apply to adopt, please visit our website at www.abtrr.org. We hope to meet Maggie’s forever family soon!

🐾💟🐾ABTRR Foster Spotlight: Tuna🐾💟🐾

Good morning, everybody! This morning we'd like to introduce you to a precious 5 1/2-year-old girl named Tuna (aka Petunia) who is currently being fostered in North Texas.

Tuna came to us when her mom (who loves her very much) suffered some setbacks in her life that rendered her unable to continue to provide for Tuna and her special needs. She took excellent care of Tuna for several years after the accident that rendered Tuna paraplegic, and as a result, Tuna is a truly fantastic little dog who loves everybody she meets, human and canine alike.

Tuna’s mobility issues don’t really slow her down much. While she does not have use of her back legs, she uses a drag bag to scoot around like a pro. She also has two carts, but she prefers to use the bag. Of course, she loves to spend time up on the couch and bed with her people, and she requires the help of her person/people to lift her up, but she’s dainty so there’s no heavy lifting involved. 😉

Tuna’s disability has caused bladder and bowel incontinence, so she requires manual expression, frequent cleaning, and topical medication to keep her healthy. She is a perfect little lady and allows her person to express her bladder & clean her up without a fuss. It’s not a complicated process and she makes it easy. Besides, she’s so darn sweet and cute – totally worth the extra effort!

🐾💕🐾 ABTRR Foster Spotlight: Maggie and Maddie 🐾💕🐾

Good morning, everybody! This morning we'd like to introduce you to a lovely pair of 8-year-old Boston Terrier mix sisters who are currently being fostered in North Texas.

Maggie and Maddie came to us after both of their parents passed away last year. Sadly, the girls lived alone in their family home for months before rescue was made aware of their situation. Once we learned of their predicament, we found a safe haven for them in the ABTRR Foster Program.

The girls are super low-key, and they are great with other dogs, adults, and dog-savvy children. They’re curious about kitties but have been trained to leave the cats at their current foster home alone. They’re also Grade A snugglers, so if you’re looking to become the filling in a dog-sandwich cookie, look no further. These are your girls!

They really are pretty mellow, easy to care for, and even easier to love. 💞 They are storm phobic, but we’ve managed to keep them relatively calm during bad weather with melatonin and quiet crate time together.

Maggie and Maddie are available for adoption now and would LOVE to be your💝 Valentines. If you have any questions about them, please drop a comment below or contact us at [email protected].

To apply to adopt (or foster), please visit our website at www.abtrr.org. We hope to meet their forever family soon!

❣️🐾💙 Adoption Announcement ❣️🐾💙

We have a very special adoption announcement to share with y'all...

Our longest-term foster boy, Snickers (aka Chompy), has been ADOPTED by his foster family! 🎉

While Snickers/Chompy has always been considered a Forever Foster due to his unpredictability and bite history, his family felt that he needed to officially become part of their family, and so Chompy became a Murphy earlier this month.

Chompy has suffered a number of strokes over the past two years, which have rendered him deaf and have robbed him of much of his mobility, but he still manages to come running (ok, toddling) when it's time to eat or when snacks appear (especially freeze-dried minnows)!

He has developed the "old-man skinnies", but his vet tells us that he's still in darn good shape for a dog his age. He takes joint and musculoskeletal supplements along with cardiac support powder and salmon oil in his raw food, all of which are credited with keeping the old fella in relatively good shape for his advanced age.

We haven't shared a recent photo of the old guy in quite a while. He's showing his age, but this photo shows that his attitude is still fully intact. Here you can see how he has commandeered the bed belonging to his 100 lbs. Malinois brother. 😆

It's no surprise that ABTRR LOVES our golden oldies, and Snickers'/Chompy's tale proves it's never too late to adopt a senior dog! Golden oldies are the BEST! 💛🐾💛
