๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค Thank You All! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค

Yesterday was incredible, and we'd like to thank everyone who has donated during this year's North Texas Giving Day event and Early Giving window. Y'all are amazing and we appreciate your extraordinary kindness and generosity, especially during these difficult economic times. Every dollar raised will benefit the dogs you've met online over the past day or so, and because ABTRR is a 501c3 charity, your donations are tax deductible. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

We hope you enjoyed meeting some of the senior and special needs foster dogs who have spent time in our program, as well as those who are still up for adoption. If any of our current foster dogs caught your eye, you can learn more about them and/or apply to adopt at www.abtrr.org.๐Ÿพ

We couldn't continue our work without support from our community and the wonderful folks at Communities Foundation of Texas who work so hard and consistently raise the bar every North Texas Giving Day. We appreciate you all very much!

The ABTRR Crew

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰ Last Call: North Texas Giving Day ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

We hope you've enjoyed reading about some of the deserving dogs in American Boston Terrier Rescue's program today. Hopefully their tales have painted a picture that illustrates our mission to rescue, rehab, and rehome as many senior and special needs Boston Terriers as we can.

We have the passion - we are only limited by the number of willing foster homes in our program and finances.

If you've got a heart for these incredible little dogs and you live in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana or Arkansas, we invite you to apply to become an approved foster home. www.abtrr.org

Also, your tax-deductible financial contributions also enable us to help those who need rescue the most. Our senior and special needs fosters tend to remain in foster care longer than younger, healthier dogs, so we appreciate any donation - in any amount - toward their care.

That being said...
Until 11:59p tonight, Thursday, 19-September, the website will be accepting donations on behalf of charities based in North Texas - please consider a gift to American Boston Terrier Rescue to help us continue our work saving homeless, abused and neglected Boston Terriers from all over Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma!

๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒˆ Maggieโ€™s Tale ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒˆ

Today is North Texas Giving Day - the biggest fundraising day of the year for most North Texas-based charities. We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the special dogs in our program to show you why we do what we do - and why today is extremely important for organizations like ABTRR.

https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/American-Boston-Terrier-Rescue

Maggie was a pretty red girl who was found as a stray and not reclaimed. She was partially deaf, but her eyes were clear and her mouth was in good condition for an older lady. She was a sweet gal who had multiple mammary tumors removed when we had her spayed.

Maggie, aka Little Mama, was a wonderful dog who was brilliant with kids and other dogs, potty trained, and a friendly little lap dog that wagged her nub of a tail anytime you even looked her way. She was loving and extremely quiet.

The thing about Maggie was that she was a TRAVELER. We imagine thatโ€™s why she ended up homeless, but unfortunately, nobody looked for her at the shelter. If she was able to get out front, she would just keep walking, and since she was partially deaf, she could not hear calls to come back.

Maggie was also a Stage 5 clinger. She would stay with her person all day, every day, and she really loved being part of a pack. She was a dainty little gal, and she LOVED being picked up and held. Sheโ€™d even help you pick her up with a *hop* into your arms.

Unfortunately, Maggieโ€™s health took a rapid turn for the worse. Within a matter of 48 hours, Maggie went from acting like her normal self to being nearly unresponsive. Her veterinarian shared the sad news about her condition after her bloodwork revealed acute onset kidney failure and insurmountable odds. Together with her devoted foster family, we helped her to the Bridge in May.

Despite this sad turn of events, Maggie was blessed to have the love and support of a tremendously kind and caring foster family who loved her as their own. This is a gift we strive to give each and every dog in our program, and we are especially grateful to those who choose to love the seniors and special needs dogs - even when there isnโ€™t the expectation of a long life ahead.

Charlie is one of our very special guys! Heโ€™s been with us for about seven years. He came to us after being hit by a car and left for dead. He suffered a fractured spine, traumatic brain injury, road rash to both eyes, and trauma to his body with contusions and open wounds. He spent 3 months in a rehabilitative hospital to give him a fighting chance at walking again. To date, he has been our most expensive dog, and he is worth every penny!

Charlie has also been one of our longest-term fosters, and he is still waiting for his forever family.

๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒˆ Snickersโ€™ Tale ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒˆ

Today is North Texas Giving Day - the biggest fundraising day of the year for most North Texas-based charities. We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the special dogs in our program to show you why we do what we do - and why today is extremely important for organizations like ABTRR.

https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/American-Boston-Terrier-Rescue

Snickers came to us from a family who was no longer able to care for his special needs. At first we were told that he didn't do well with their children, but that was only part of the story. After taking him into our program, running several medical tests, treating him for low thyroid, and spending many weeks with a professional trainer, we were told he was displaying classic signs of fear aggression - which manifested in several bite incidents.

Snickers could be quite standoffish with new people and other dogs, and he took a long time to warm up. Trust was a big issue for him so his foster home spent years working with him and building trust, while arming him with new behaviors to help him deal appropriately with his fears.

Happily, Snickers finally became part of the pack at his foster mom's home. He still had his 'moments', but his tolerance threshold greatly increased, and he continued to make progress. Right up to the end.

He experienced a few strokes over his final year that took his hearing, but he didnโ€™t let that slow him down.

Due to his outbursts and bite history, Snickers was supposed to remain a "Forever Foster" under ABTRR's care, but...

He had a loving foster home that treated him as family and was dedicated to helping him be the best dog he could be, and while ABTRR had committed to maintaining financial responsibility for him for the rest of his life, his foster family official adopted him in January.

Snickers went to the Bridge at the end of April at the age of 15, but our little old man passed feeling safe and knowing he was loved beyond measure. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿพ Fostering Saves Lives ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿพ

While most North Texas Giving Day posts focus on raising money for deserving charities, there are other ways to give from the heart. We would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone in the North Texas area who truly loves dogs, especially Boston Terriers, to consider becoming a foster home for American BT Rescue & Rehabilitation.

As our name indicates, American BT Rescue & Rehabilitationโ€™s focus is on rescuing and rehabilitating seniors and special needs Boston Terriers. These are the dogs that rarely make it out of shelters because theyโ€™re deemed โ€œunadoptableโ€. And since most rescues do not have the fosters, funds, or expertise to handle these special cases, ABTRRโ€™s work is doubly important.

Every new foster home that joins the American BT Rescue & Rehabilitation family will be directly responsible for saving a life. Thatโ€™s a pretty big impact for simply volunteering your home and your time to a homeless dog!

We invite you to help ABTRR with our mission - rescuing and rehabilitating BTs across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas - by becoming an ABTRR Foster home!

To apply, visit us at www.abtrr.org and fill out the online Foster application.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ North Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Dot ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

14 1/2-year-old Dot is as precious as they come. Her tale is somewhat different from that of many other rescue dogs in that she was loved and well cared for her whole life before coming to rescue.

When her owner became unable to care for Dot properly, the family sought assistance from Boston Terrier rescue. Dotโ€™s family was referred to ABTRR by another rescue.

The timing was perfect, as we had a foster family who was ready to take her in immediately. Within just a few days, they voiced their desire to adopt Dot.

At 14 1/2 years old, our precious golden oldie is about to start a brand new chapter in her life with a loving and devoted family.

Your donation this North Texas Giving Day ensures that ABTRR is able to continue serving senior Boston terriers like Dot and placing them in loving forever homes where they will enjoy their golden years!

Emmeline was a senior who came to us in pretty rough shape from a local shelter. Found as a stray, her family never came for her.

As you can see from her shelter photo, her eyes were in terrible shape, and she had limited vision. Our vet team was able to treat her eyes, eliminate her pain, and help restore at least a portion of her vision.

Emmeline also had several masses removed from mammary chain, and we were very happy to learn that her medical report showed clear margins. A few months later, she was adopted by the sweetest lady in Dallas who loved Emmy from the moment she laid eyes on her.

Sadly, it wasnโ€™t long before Emmyโ€™s cancer returned. Her adoptive mom loved her fiercely and vowed she would give Emmy the best life possible until it was time for Emmy to gain her wings.

Though their time together was short, Emmy knew real love and compassion in her final months. Thatโ€™s a gift we strive to give each and every dog in our program, and we are especially grateful to those who choose to love the seniors and special needs dogs - even when there isnโ€™t the expectation of a long life ahead.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ North Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Maggie & Maddie ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

This precious middle-aged Boston Terrier mix pair came to us as a referral from another rescue. Sadly, their elderly owners both passed away and nobody in their family wanted them. The girls were left in their home alone for several months, being fed and watered a few times a week by a relative.

ABTRR worked hard to find a willing foster home to take the bonded pair. Luckily, a very kind previous adopter offered to take them in.

The girls were with us for what seemed like foreverโ€ฆ

There was one very promising application that we were sure would be their forever home, but the familyโ€™s plans were derailed and the adoption fell through.

Thankfully, just at the right time, a former adopter voiced her desire to meet the girls. It was kismet! Not only did the meet and greet go well, the former adopter decided to adopt the pair almost immediately.

We could not have *dreamed* of a better home for โ€œThe Ladiesโ€ than where they are now!

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸพNorth Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Levi ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

Levi was found wearing his coat in the N Texas area just after New Years Day 2022. The finders and their friends and neighbors spent many, many hours scouring the net, local shelters (lost and found reports), vets, online forums, and other groups trying to find his family - to no avail. This was all AFTER his microchip was scanned and the number lead them to his former owner, who wasnโ€™t able to recall who she gave him to a year ago.

So, after a couple weeks, they reached out to ABTRR for assistance. Our team quickly found a foster and arranged transport and vetting for the sweet guy.

Levi saw the vet and we learned that his heart, lungs, and teeth look great (especially for an older gent)! He was also heartworm negative! He was neutered and had a full senior blood panel to be sure nothing was missed. Nobody who meets him, including his vets, believe heโ€™s actually 12+ years old.

Itโ€™s rare that we get a dog in good condition - especially a senior. Still, his vetting costs far exceed his $150 adoption fee, which is why fundraising opportunities like North Texas Giving Day are so important to small organizations like American BT Rescue.

Happily, Levi was adopted earlier this year by an amazing family who saw how incredibly precious he truly is, despite not being a purebred Boston. They were so happy to welcome our sweet senior boy into their home and family, and Levi seems to know he hit the jackpot!

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ North Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Raleigh ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

Raleigh is a senior gentleman who, like so many others, came to us as a referral from another rescue. His family was moving away and could not take him with them.

Raleigh came to us with bilateral cherry eyes and numerous large masses on his chest and body.

He quickly found a kindred spirit in his foster mom who is absolutely in love with him. She describes him as the chillest Boston sheโ€™s ever met, and she adores him.

Raleigh was supposed to have surgery to correct both eyes and remove his lumps earlier this month, but the clinic rescheduled him for later this month. Your donation today will help us provide the medical care. Raleigh needs to live comfortably and enjoy his golden years.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ North Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Romeo ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰
Romeo, Romeoโ€ฆ Where to begin?

Romeo is an extra special little guy who came to us as a transfer from another Boston Terrier rescue. He originally came from a family who took him to a veterinarian to determine the cause of his apparent incontinence when he was about 4 months old. Long story short, he narrowly escaped euthanasia when his family learned that Rescue might be able to help.

Romeo was surrendered to his original rescue organization, and they did their best to sort out his issues. They performed all his initial vetting, and even sponsored a very expensive major surgery that yielded no positive results. Nothing seemed to help Romeos incontinence, his gastric upset, and his behavior was becoming increasingly difficult for the foster home to deal with.

Without the specialized resources to help a dog like Romeo, the original Rescue reached out to ABTRR for help. It took some time for us to find a foster home, but one of our amazing foster moms eventually had an opening, and she was willing to work with him.

Nearly a year passed, and things we tried seemed to help for a short time, but then Romeoโ€˜s gastric issues returned. He was very skinny, his bowels were runny and impossibly messy, and frankly he stunk to high heaven no matter what we tried.

Until one dayโ€ฆ

A long-awaited stroke of luck allowed us to drastically change Romeoโ€˜s diet and feeding schedule, and after just a week or so of eating fresh, whole foods, he began to exhibit tremendous progress. He started gaining weight, his bowel movements firmer up, and the stench that seemed to plague his little body all but disappeared.

A massive diet overhaul changed his entire life.

Though Romeo is still mostly bowel incontinent, the diet change helped improve his stools to a point where his foster mom is able to keep him in diapers and easily keep him clean and smelling fresh. She has also worked wonders on his behavior and his interactions with other dogs have improved dramatically.

The best news of all?

Romeo is being ADOPTED by his foster family!

The incontinent little stinker (literally!) who couldnโ€™t catch a break in his early life has come full circle and is now a cherished family member!

Your donation this NTGD helps ensure ABTRR is able to continue serving extra special dogs like Romeo and finding them perfect forever homes, even when it takes longer than usual.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰ Tunaโ€™s Tale ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

Today is North Texas Giving Day - the biggest fundraising day of the year for most North Texas-based charities. We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the special dogs in our program to show you why we do what we do - and why today is extremely important for organizations like ABTRR.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ North Texas Giving Day Spotlight: Tuna ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ‰

Tuna is a 5-year-old incontinent paraplegic female who came to us when her mom lost the family member who helped her take care of Tuna while she was at work.

Tuna (whose real name is Petunia) is an absolute LOVE who gets along beautifully with the resident dogs at her foster home.

Tuna doesn't have any mobility in her hind end, which means she cannot walk, but it also means she has no bowel control, and her bladder has to be manually expressed. Her special needs are definitely beyond the scope of what most folks can handle, but ABTRR has some of the most incredible foster families anywhere, and we were able to find placement for sweet little Tuna.

It didnโ€™t take too long to wrap her foster parents around her little paw. Within a matter of months, they decided their family wasnโ€™t complete without Miss Tuna and they decided to officially adopt her!

Your generous donation this North Texas Giving Day helps American Boston Terrier Rescue continue our mission of helping seniors and special needs dogs like Tuna not only safe haven when they need it, but also loving forever homes!

To make a one-time donation to support extra special dogs just like Tuna, or to become an Angel Sponsor with a recurring donation for another foster dog, please visit https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/organization/American-Boston-Terrier-Rescue.
