Central Arkansas Chapter, A Welcome Home Animal Rescue

Central Arkansas Chapter, A Welcome Home Animal Rescue Facilitate transport of cats to northern states, reducing overpopulation in Arkansas.

Promote adoption of fostered cats and kittens in Central Arkansas, through proper vetting, preparation, and partnership. A Welcome Home Animal Rescue (Central Arkansas Chapter) is committed to connecting people with cats. We have found that transporting adoptable cats to states that have more demand than supply can save lives! If you would love to help, you can sponsor a cat for transport, check

out the cats looking for sponsorship - https://www.awhar.org/animals/browse?special=Sponsorable

Or a direct donation will help pay veterinarian bills as well as basic expenses such as food, litter and medicine. https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=6EZSLUDRSCQ24

All donations go to help the animals and nothing else. Thanks for being a purrfect partner with A Welcome Home Rescue (Central Arkansas Chapter)!

Great option to support charities like Central Arkansas Rescue Transport or Central Arkansas Chapter, A Welcome Home Animal Rescue, if you're facing Required Minimum Distributions this tax year!

Are you facing Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRA, resulting in higher income taxes for 2024? Want to support a charity like Central Arkansas Rescue Transport at the same time?
Don’t delay! You can avoid higher taxes by making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to deduct the RMD on your tax return. A QCD allows individuals who are 70½ years old or older to donate up to $105,000 total to one or more charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking the RMD. This is a great way to donate to your favorite charity. Check with your tax and/or investment advisor; the investment provider that holds your IRA must process the QCD to be paid directly to the 501(c)(3) organization of your choice. Time is running out for the 2024 tax year.
Read more about QCDs at the IRS link listed in the comments.
And please consider CART for your 2024 donation!

Anyone available to drive a single puppy form Bryant to Fort Smith next Monday afternoon, October 14th, to catch a transport to Minnesota!? Gas stipend provided by CART.

UPDATE: We have found a driver!!! Thanks to all who shared and helped get the word out!

Attn Road Warriors!! Fuel stipend has been offered by CART (See details below!)

Interested in taking a road trip with a single shelter pup (and maybe a few kittens in a single carrier) to the Ft. Smith area for a lifesaving transport?

We have a short transport tentatively scheduled for October 14th with an arrival time being 6pm. Unfortunately, our regular drivers can't make it. It will be a single puppy, less than 10 lbs in size & a litter of 3 kittens in a single crate. The cats must be crated during transport, but the pup can be held or crated, your choice.

If you are interested, please email Director Tricia Power at [email protected] and she'll get you more details as we have them.

The volunteer(s) will have to:
1) Sign a waiver of liability
2) Provide your own vehicle

Some other important details:

You may provide your own clean and disinfected crate, or we will provide it for you, and they must be returned to the shelter after transport. If provided by the volunteer, it must be a travel crate (wire crate is not allowed per our guidelines.)

All paperwork will accompany the animals, and you must agree that no food or treats will be given during the transport accept those provided by the shelter.

This is family friendly opportunity, so you can bring a friend or family member along (just no other pets.) We looking forward to hearing from you!

🚨DOG FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP!🚨

The dogs at the Little Rock Animal Village 🐕have a big favor to ask you! 🥹

We need 20 short-term fosters during our home improvement project!

The shelter has been going through some much needed renovations, and brand new kennels and floors are being installed. Some of the dogs will be displaced during this time.

Potential fosters should fill out an application at this link: http://surl.li/rwvjh

They will have to be approved before fostering.

Fosters do have to live in Little Rock, and the animals will be sterilized before leaving the shelter.

Our volunteer coordinator will contact you as soon as possible after you submit your application, then you can plan a time to pick out your pup! The dogs will need to be fostered for 2-4 weeks. There are at least 100 to choose from.

Thank you for your continuous support. Please share and reach out if you are able to foster!

I went to a shopping center in West Little Rock today and saw a store called Puppy Dreams, with a sign in the window "Puppies for Sale". I had to walk in and see if this store was really 'selling' dogs. Yes, they are. The representative said they sell designer puppies - did I want to play with one? I asked - where do you get your puppies? He said from USDA licensed breeders and reputable FAMILY BREEDERS. I had to leave the store before I said something that I couldn't take back.

Now, I am all for out-of-the-box ideas that help address the surplus adoptable animal problem in Arkansas. And I am ok with a retail presence to market rescue-sourced dogs to help redirect people from ordering dogs online, when those online dogs come from puppy mills that have horrible conditions for the mother dogs. There are now lots of designer dogs in rescues (especially in Texas) that could be providing dogs - even puppies - to a retail store. And I'm ok with breeders that sustain a breed's existence and participate in a national-level breed organization (like the Newfoundland Club of America).

Consequently, without investigating the specifics about where this store gets its inventory, I'm not making a judgement. Their website says they take from 'licensed partner breeders who meet or exceed rigorous industry and veterinary standards in animal care' and that the store works to find the right fit for the dogs, to keep the dogs from being rehomed or going to a shelter.

But I was surprised to stumble across this store.

CART just completed its 29th transport for the year, which included 74 cats from 3 members of our Arkansas Rescue Transport Coalition - Cat House Palooza (transport driven by Sherri and Phil), Community Cats of Central Arkansas and The Artemis Project! We are so thankful for our partnership with these wonderful rescues!

Thanks also to our destination partners Happy Tails Rescue and Green Acres Animal Rescue plus Sherri and Phil's partner Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue! Thanks to Brenda Jackson Staton for driving the Central Arkansas cats to meet the transport in Fort Smith!

The Coalition's count so far this year for cats and dogs transported - 963 animals! Collaboration and teamwork =

Please check out our Facebook posts about our Fall Auction running through Nov. 24th. CART covers transport costs for those transports we manage; these auctions are our major means for fundraising!

Looking for volunteer driver(s) to Cincinnati! We have a small cat transport to our partner there; only about 6 carriers of kittens so need someone to drive their personal vehicle. Date is flexible. We pay for the gas and a small stipend toward personal expenses. You will also bring back prescription cat food from our partner to help our Coalition rescue members! Good driving record and current insurance required.

Cats are coming from Fort Smith but they can meet driver in Central Arkansas.

Last day of the Best Friends Animal Society Conference in Houston. Got the opportunity to speak on how our collaboration through the Arkansas Rescue Transport Coalition saves animal lives!

Two transport in one day last week for the Arkansas Rescue Transport Coalition! While CART sent 36 cats and 2 dogs to destination partners Happy Tails Rescue and Green Acres Animal Rescue in Minnesota on July 12th, our Coalition member The Artemis Project took 31 dogs and 9 cats to our partner Belleville Area Humane Society in Illinois!

Even more amazing than the number of animals saved that day through transport - it's that the animals came from six different rescues/shelters covering multiple communities - from Northwestern Arkansas to Fort Smith, from Central Arkansas to Pocahontas. Teamwork makes the difference!

Through the Coalition, 693 animals have been transported since January. But I am thrilled to announce that the transports undertaken by CART this year have hit the 500 mark - more than double all of 2023!
