It’s hot out there! Even our Cape Crested Porcupines, Indigo and Iris, are finding ways to beat the heat with some refreshing ice. 🌞 Here are some tips on how to stay cool during your Zoo summer visits: 1) Stay Hydrated: Remember to take breaks and drink plenty of water. Bring a reusable water bottle; we have several refill stations throughout the Zoo to help you stay refreshed. 2) Cool Down Spots: Take advantage of our mister stations to beat the heat. You can also cool off in the Reptile House, Cheetah Outpost, and Café Africa, which are perfect for a break from the sun. 3) Animal Habitats: Animals have access to both their indoor and outdoor areas, which means during times of excessive heat, they may access cooler areas that are out of view. Note that while some habitats offer indoor viewing, not all do. 📸 Cred: Keeper LeeAnn

As Northern California natives, our Ringtails Romulus and Inali are rooting for the San Francisco 49ers! 🏈🏆 Why? Well, the SF 49ers football team are named after the gold prospectors who arrived in Northern California in the 1849 Gold Rush. And during those days, Ringtails were nicknamed "miner's cats" because they would eat mice in the miner's camps! But Ringtails are not actually cats, but instead related to raccoons! They are omnivores (eat meat and fruit/vegetables), and are most active at night, thanks to special adaptations that allow them to see well at night!
Well our beautiful lady elephants had their vote! KC Chiefs for the Super Bowl win this year! Who will you be cheering for? 🏈🏆
