Out of the Woods was established in 2007 by Kathy Woods along with Shawn Schouweiler. OOTW is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization.

Our focus is assisting animals and people who help animals in areas where Municipal services are not available. We receive no funding from the federal, state, or county governments, nor from any corporate entity. We are a network of volunteers who allow our rescued dogs and cats to live with us in foster care until they are adopted.

Miley, Dakota, Buddy & Luna, along with 57 other amazing pets, are available for adoption!

MILEY Miley is a stunning 2-year-old Belgian Shepherd Malinois mix, weighing in at about 80 lbs. True to her breed, Miley is full of energy and needs an active home where she can run and play. Miley was diagnosed with Addison’s disease and will need monthly injections along with Prednisone, she is doing great and has responded very well with treatment. Don’t let this deter you from adopting, we are willing to cover the cost of Miley’s monthly injections and prednisone! Miley loves playing with other dogs who can match her rough-and-tumble play style, but she is not a good fit for homes with cats. Due to her high energy and intense play, she may not be suitable for homes with small children. Miley is both housetrained and crate trained!

DAKOTA is a 6-7 year old Husky, weighing around 75lbs. This loyal, affectionate boy needs a family who understands the unique traits of the Husky breed and is ready to provide the exercise, mental stimulation, and structure he thrives on. Dakota is good with other dogs and kids.

BUDDY is a 10.5 year old love bug, who weighs in at 66lbs. He has lived his whole life as an outside dog so he is still learning the ropes as far as the comforts of indoor living! He is very sweet and loving and enjoys snuggling on the couch! This boy deserves to be spoiled rotten and live out his golden years being cherished by his forever family! Buddy's adoption fee is sponsored by Alyce Callahan.

LUNA like her sister, Nana, is a beautiful 2-year-old, 50-pound sweetheart who’s as friendly as she is lovable! This fun, happy girl is great with other dogs, making her the perfect companion for an active family looking for a playful new best friend. Luna has excellent manners — she’s house-trained, crate-trained, and walks wonderfully on a leash. Whether it’s playtime in the yard or cuddle time on the couch, Luna is always ready to share her big heart and joyful spirit.

Would you believe us if we said these pups look beautiful?
Because just a few days ago, it was a different story. 💔

Mitchell and Madison were rescued off the streets barely able to move—their bodies covered in blood, painful scabs, and puss-filled eyes. This is mange: excruciating, debilitating… yet so easy to treat when animals receive proper care.

And look at them now—just five days later. ✨
Safe. Healing. Loved.
Two adorable 7-month-olds who are as sweet as can be and who never deserved the suffering they endured.

Humans failed them.
Out of the Woods didn’t.

Banjo, along with 66 other amazing pets, is available for adoption! Please share!

Banjo’s story begins on a busy county road, where some kind-hearted good Samaritans spotted him wandering dangerously close to traffic. Fearing he might be hit by a car or end up in the wrong hands, they stepped in to keep him safe — and Banjo has been nothing but grateful ever since.

This sweet, two year old, 60-pound boy is the definition of gentle and friendly. Banjo has a naturally warm personality, greeting everyone he meets with a wagging tail and soft eyes. He’s affectionate, eager to please, and ready to give all his love to the family lucky enough to take him home.

Banjo is healthy, happy, and excited to start the next chapter of his life. All he needs now is a forever family who will cherish him as much as he’ll cherish them.

Nana, Miss Piggy, Buddy & Dax as well as 65 other amazing pets are needing homes!

MISS PIGGY - This little piggy went to town, but when she came back… nobody was home! She wasn’t sure what happened, but don’t worry — we stepped in to help. Miss Piggy's days revolve around her two favorite things: eating and sleeping (and then sleeping and eating again). She doesn’t care about being the belle of the ball — all she needs is a cozy spot to nap and a full bowl to keep her tail wiggling. You’ll hear her soft grunts as she dreams, perfectly content and happy as a pig in a mud hole.

BUDDY BOOP is a 2 year old who weighs in at around 45lbs. Buddy was surrendered by a homeless man and is now adjusting to new surroundings. Buddy is super sweet and playful. He LOVES stuffed animals! Buddy is great with other dogs!

DAX is a stunning 2-3 year-old Doberman Pinscher (80lbs) with a heart as big as his smile. This sweet boy loves going for walks, playing, and running around in a big yard. He’s smart, affectionate, and happiest when he’s with people who show him love and care. He is dog selective, so would do best in an only dog home.

SCOUT is an 11-month-old, Labrador mix with a gentle heart. She is shy with new people, but with patience and kindness she will warm up. If you’re willing to help this sweet girl build confidence, she’ll return your love tenfold. Scout is ready for a calm, caring home where she can feel safe and continue to blossom.

TURBO is an adorable 9 week old Flat-coated Retriever/Catahoula mix. He is just the cutest thing you'll ever see and is learning his house manners and crate training. He is trained to a puppy pad in a small area.

ZARA is a gorgeous 5-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing in at 40 lbs of pure love and personality! Zara is the perfect blend of fun-loving energy and snuggle-up calm — whether she’s out on an adventure or curled up for some couch time, she’s happiest just being with her people. 💖 Zara is housetrained and good with other dogs.

GRIFFITH is a handsome 7-month old kitten with the best personality. He is always happy and finding something around the house to play with, but in the evening, Griffith is ready to setting down for some lap time.
