Out of the Woods was established in 2007 by Kathy Woods along with Shawn Schouweiler. OOTW is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization.

Our focus is assisting animals and people who help animals in areas where Municipal services are not available. We receive no funding from the federal, state, or county governments, nor from any corporate entity. We are a network of volunteers who allow our rescued dogs and cats to live with us in foster care until they are adopted.

Jonathan, Quinn, Puppy & Priscilla, along with 70 other great pets, are needing homes! Please share!

JONATHAN is a 6 month old kitten with a quirky, funny side that will steal your heart! He may be low-key, but he’s full of charm and unexpected antics that will keep you smiling.

QUINN is a 5-year-old calico beauty. This charming girl adores attention… when she’s ready for it. If she’s not in the mood, she’ll politely let you know with her signature gentle hiss. (It’s just her way of saying, “Not now, human.”) Despite her quirky habits, Quinn truly is a wonderful cat who brings joy to anyone who understands her unique style of affection. She can be slow to warm up to other pets, so she would thrive best in a home where she can soak up all the love and attention for herself.

PUPPY is a 1-2 year-old, weighing in at 57 pounds of pure love and energy. This playful pup has a heart full of affection and a zest for life. She’s a high-energy girl who adores playtime—whether it’s a game of fetch with her human friends or romping around with other dogs. Puppy is housetrained and ready to thrive in a new home.

PRISCILLA is a sweet and loving lab mix looking for her forever home. She's about a 1 to 2 years old and 50lbs. Priscilla is great with kids and other dogs, and she’s fully potty trained. Despite her gentle nature, she can be a bit shy and fearful of men due to past experiences.

Sissy Sophia, Penny, Dotty & Alvin along with 70 other amazing pets are available for adoption! Please Share!

SISSY SOPHIA is an adorable 9 month old Shepherd mix, weighing in at 45lbs. Sissy is crate and house trained and is working on leash training. She is an active girl and loves being outside watching the squirrels. Sissy would do well with other dogs or she could easily be an only dog.

PENNY is a 6 month old kitty who is a little shy, but is slowly coming out of her shell. She enjoys playing with toys and watching the world from a safe spot.

DOTTY is an adorable 11 month old, 35lb, Beagle/Bluetick mix. She has puppy energy and a Blue Heeler mind. Which means she’d be an excellent adventure partner, ready to go anywhere and everywhere with you, and learn exactly what you want in a best friend. She tends to try to herd children, so best in a home with kids over 12.

ALVIN is a beautiful 6 month old Catahoula Leopard/Labrador mix. He is loving, playful, good with other dogs, and ready to be your best friend.

Bubba Kane, Sweety, Zoe & Cleo along with 69 other wonderful pets are needing forever homes!

BUBBA KANE is a handsome 9 month old, 48 lb, Shepherd mix. Bubba's perfect home would be one with kiddos and a big fenced yard for safe playtime. He is also leash and crate trained. He also rides well in a car and he's always buckled into a seat belt and he's good with that too! But the cutest thing he's been trained to do is ring a bell when he wants to go outside! We cannot say enough good things about this boy!

SWEETY is a precious 3-year-old, 50-pound hound gal has a heart as big as her beautiful brown eyes. After lovingly raising her three adorable pups, Sweety is finally ready for her own happily-ever-after! Gentle, affectionate, and full of sweetness (just like her name!), Sweety can’t wait to find a forever family who will cherish her as much as she’ll adore them.

ZOE is a beautiful 5.5 year old Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler. She weighs about 64 lbs. Zoe is full of love and energy and her favorite thing in the world is playing with a ball! She will play fetch for hours. Zoe is potty trained and good with most dogs.

CLEO is a beautiful 2.5-year-old Shepherd mix weighing in at 60 lbs of sweetness. A little shy at first, Cleo has a calm and easygoing nature that makes her a joy to be around. She gets along wonderfully with cats and children, and she especially enjoys her daily walks.

Sam, along with 73 other wonderful pets, is available for adoption!

Sam is a 4-year-old, 77-pound gentle giant who has been through far more than any dog should. He was abandoned and left to fend for himself, but despite his rough past, Sam continues to be one of the sweetest, most loving dogs you’ll ever meet.

This happy boy adores people and lives for affection. He loves giving kisses, being close to his humans, and spending time with kids—he truly shines when he’s surrounded by love.

Sam is heartworm positive, but don’t worry—he has already started his treatment and is doing wonderfully. His adoption fee is $150, which includes:

Meet Willow!
Willow is a beautiful 1–2-year-old Rat Terrier/Smooth Fox Terrier mix weighing around 20 lbs. This sweet girl has already overcome so much in her young life. Rescued from a hoarding situation, Willow came to us as a devoted young mom to three puppies. Now that her babies are safe and thriving, it’s finally her turn to be loved and cared for.

Willow may be a bit shy when meeting new people or dogs, but with a little patience and kindness, she truly blossoms. Once she warms up, she becomes an incredibly affectionate companion who loves to curl up beside her humans. She gets along well with other dogs and is surprisingly athletic—she can easily keep up with larger pups during playtime!

Her perfect afternoon? Snuggling with her favorite person and soaking up all the ear scratches she can get.

Willow is ready for a home where she can feel safe, cherished, and adored. If you're looking for a sweet, loyal, and cuddly companion, Willow might just be the perfect match. 💛🐾

Margaux and 70 other deserving pets are available for adoption!

Margaux was dumped in a fairly desolate area of Saline County and surprisingly, she survived her ordeal and made her way into the Out of the Woods' program where she immediately got started on her vetting which included a flea killer, tick removal, puppy shot and wormer. We filled her belly and she curled up and slept for hours, obviously feeling safe and secure!

At this writing, this little girl has only been with us a few hours, but she seems to be well socialized and loves being held. How any human could have tossed this tiny creature out to fend for herself is beyond anyone with even the smallest brain. She's a tiny little thing, possibly 3-4 pounds and we believe she will remain small, even when full grown. We guesstimate she will grow to be 25 pounds or less. We think she's around 6-7 weeks old.

Margaux is settling in, getting used to a routine. We are working on her crate training and puppy pad training. So far, she's okay with the crate, but has yet to hit the pad, but that is something that will take only a day or two to get the hang of.

Margaux has a lot of other vetting ahead of her including two more puppy shots, more worming, kennel cough vaccination, spay (at 5 months old), microchip and her rabies shot, flea/tick/heartworm preventative. So, we will get busy on getting this done and you need to get busy spreading the word that this girl needs a home.

Jayden, Spryte, Matilda & Tiger as well as 69 other pets need forever homes!

JAYDEN has a beautiful personality and is outgoing, playful and curious. At 10 months old, she weighs around 40 pounds and we expect her to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 pounds when she's full grown.

SPRYTE **UNDER 20 LBS** is an adorable 11 month old, 15 lb, Rat Terrier mix who is sweet, sociable, and a total snuggle buddy. She is good on leash and would love to walk with you around the neighborhood.

MATILDA **UNDER 20 LBS** is a 1-2 year old (19 lb) Rat Terrier/Smooth Fox Terrier. She’s a laid-back, snuggly girl who deserves a loving home after spending her life in an outdoor pen. Now she’s ready to enjoy the warmth and comfort of being part of a family.

TIGER is a 10 month old brindle beauty. Tiger looks completely lab, in every way, except that brindle coat. We are calling her a lab mix but we just don't know what the rest of the mix is. Tiger is house trained and walks well on leash using a harness. She also rides well in a car. Tiger presently weighs just over 40 pounds and we don't see her getting much larger, probably topping out around 45 pounds. She is good with other dogs.
