Out of the Woods was established in 2007 by Kathy Woods along with Shawn Schouweiler. OOTW is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization.

Our focus is assisting animals and people who help animals in areas where Municipal services are not available. We receive no funding from the federal, state, or county governments, nor from any corporate entity. We are a network of volunteers who allow our rescued dogs and cats to live with us in foster care until they are adopted.

This handsome boy had a rough start in life, but he’s now thriving in a loving foster home alongside multiple canine companions. Hunny is a gorgeous 55lb blonde who is three years old. She has come into the OOTW program because her owner had to take a job where he works out of town for weeks on end. This leaves her and her sister, Oria, alone in the yard with a couple of different people stopping by to replenish food and water every few days. This is not a good situation and we would love to find this girl (and her sister) a home and they do not need to be adopted together.

Hunny, besides being a beautiful dog, is a LOVE BUG and a gentle girl. As you can tell from these photos, she's a happy dog with an enormous smile! She immensely enjoys being with people and we expect her to do well with children, even though she has not had kids in her life yet. Hunny is well behaved, house trained and crate trained.

NIKO and 30other wonderful pets are available for adoption!

This incredibly sweet dog is Niko and he has been without a home for 599 days! Niko was kept in an outdoor kennel as a puppy, with little chance to get out and play. So when you first meet him, he is shy for the first 30 minutes or so. After that, he warms up pretty quickly and loves to snuggle in close for pets and love. We just need someone who will give him some time to get used to his surroundings to get comfortable. Niko walks great on a leash and would make a great companion because of his loving disposition. That beautiful coat is only matched by his beautiful heart. He is currently living at a boarding facility because we haven't had a foster home open up. We would love for him to find an adoptive family, but at least, would love for someone to step up and foster him. Niko is almost two years old and around 60lbs. Abbey is a gentle and loving 7-year-old German Shepherd with a heart as big as her beautiful brown eyes. This brave girl was a stray who found her way to safety when a kind-hearted couple stopped to feed her—and she hopped right into their car, ready for a fresh start! Abbey's sweet nature and gentle soul shine through in everything she does.

She’s well-behaved, knows several basic commands, and loves playtime. Abbey’s friendly with everyone she meets and is always up for a game of fetch or a cozy snuggle. Abbey came into rescue with limp. Upon further investigation, it appears that she suffered a trauma. Most likely she was hit by a car. X rays have shown that nothing can be fixed surgically but she will need long term medications and possibly injections to manage. Her paw and pelvis have been affected. But this does not stop this sweet girl from getting around! She will just need a family who can give her the care that she will need.

Doogan and 30 other amazing pets available for adoption!

Meet Doogan, a terrier mixed with terrier, from the descendants of terriers! We don't know exactly what type of terrier we are dealing with here, but Doogan is DEFINITELY a terrier.

This adorable little guy is just over a year old (guesstimate), weighs in at 28 pounds, stands just below the knee (on most people) and we consider him full grown. He loves EVERYONE! He moved into a foster home with 7 other dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities and there has not been a cross word between anyone! Within 24 hours, he is best friends with every single dog, big or small, old or young, cranky or fun-loving! He has not been cat tested.

Before Doogan came to us, we were told he did okay in a crate, and while he didn't escape the crate, he did do some digging attempting to get out of it. Of course, that was the first few hours he was in his new home. We have had no reason to crate him since. He has a doggie door and either knew how to use one or learned it instantly. He has had no accidents in the house. At night he sleeps on an ottoman at the end of his foster parents' bed. And he rode in the car with no drooling or vomiting.

We will be doing further testing as we go along regarding his knowledge of a leash and commands and he will be neutered as soon as we can get an appointment set up. He has already gotten his yearly vaccination, kennel cough vax and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

Zoe is an 8-year-old Lab/Rottie mix with a heart full of love and energy to share. She’s been through a tough start in life, abandoned by her previous owner and left severely underweight. Thankfully, a kind neighbor began caring for her and reached out for help. Now, Zoe is thriving, gaining weight, and ready to find her forever home!

Zoe is:

• Good with other dogs: She’s social and has never shown aggression.
• Playful and active: Zoe’s favorite thing in the world is playing with a ball—she’ll happily do it all day if you let her!

Oria and 29 other amazing pets available for adoption!

Oria is a beautiful big fluffy girl who is three years old and weighs in around 55 pounds. She is a mix of Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees. She has come into the OOTW program because her owner had to take a job where he works out of town for weeks on end. This leaves her and her sister, Hunny, outside, alone in the yard with a couple of different people stopping by to replenish food and water every couple of days. It's not a good situation and we would love to find these girls homes and they do not need to be adopted together.

As these girls are quite a ways out of Little Rock, we have been unable to get them to the vet just yet, but we are working on this and we are moving forward with taking applications for adoption and will get the vetting worked in as we go.

Oria is a gentle, loving girl who likes nothing better than being with her people. Well behaved, house trained and crate trained, we believe she will make a fantastic family pet and we expect her to be good with children even though she's not been with kids up to this point.
