Out of the Woods was established in 2007 by Kathy Woods along with Shawn Schouweiler. OOTW is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization.

Our focus is assisting animals and people who help animals in areas where Municipal services are not available. We receive no funding from the federal, state, or county governments, nor from any corporate entity. We are a network of volunteers who allow our rescued dogs and cats to live with us in foster care until they are adopted.

Chessie is a 7-month-old bundle of joy weighing in at 36 pounds. This sweet girl has already been through a lot in her young life. She showed up on the doorstep of a business, clearly having been out on her own for some time and in rough shape. But with love and care, she's on the mend—and it’s been so rewarding to see her transformation so far.

Chessie had mange when she was rescued, but don't let that scare you. Mange is incredibly easy to treat, and watching her fur grow back and her confidence shine has been nothing short of amazing. Now, her coat is coming in beautifully, and her playful, happy personality is in full bloom.

NIKO and 28 other wonderful pets are available for adoption!

This incredibly sweet dog is Niko and he has been without a home for 553 days! Niko was kept in an outdoor kennel as a puppy, with little chance to get out and play. So when you first meet him, he is shy for the first 30 minutes or so. After that, he warms up pretty quickly and loves to snuggle in close for pets and love. We just need someone who will give him some time to get used to his surroundings to get comfortable. Niko walks great on a leash and would make a great companion because of his loving disposition. That beautiful coat is only matched by his beautiful heart. He is currently living at a boarding facility because we haven't had a foster home open up. We would love for him to find an adoptive family, but at least, would love for someone to step up and foster him. Niko is almost two years old and around 60lbs. Puppies now available for adoption!

These little tykes are laid back and enjoy nothing more than a brief romp and then some cuddling in your lap! They are big cuddlebugs!

Mom who appears to be a small pit mix, also solid white. Mom weighs about 35 pounds. We are not sure who daddy was, but some of the puppies are showing signs that there might be a boxer in the mix. No matter what the mix, these little guys are really cute and loving!
