Do you know what you need to do to have a great garden (or raised beds), or are you thinking about growing vegetables next season? Do you prefer to use sustainable methods to build a thriving and healthy soil environment? ♻️

Now is the best time of year to prepare but there’s so much information out there that it can be difficult to know where to start. 🤔 We have answers in our last workshop this season!

Whether you’re method is sod busting, no-till, or raised bed gardening, know that it’s possible to build/rebuild healthy soil on a budget by using methods available to almost everyone.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to optimizing your gardening outputs. We’re sharing our years of insights, knowledge, and tips in our Principles and Practices to Build Soil Health workshop in our Urban Ag series of workshops on Sat., Nov. 4, 2023, 12P-3P. Register by midnight Nov. 3 at 👇

Dr. Stephen Grace, founding director, will share his passion for sustainable urban and small-scale agriculture to help you grow healthy and productive crops.

Parking is free, and class will be taught inside and in the Campus Garden for hands-on experience. Course handouts, free materials and goodies included!

This workshop is made possible through the generous support of the Pulaski County Conservation District and our partners at UA Little Rock Extended Education.

Come out to the annual Sustainability Day 🌱 event Thurs., Oct. 26, 2023, and pickup a variety of produce and goods from the Garden! 🍠 Sweet potatoes, several varieties of peppers, tomatoes and more will be available to purchase.

Proceeds from our farm stands support our ongoing growing operation where we produce everything from seed to harvest, relying on our volunteers & leaders to make the dream work.

We’re asked frequently “what happens to the produce you grow?” 🤔 We feed our volunteers, we donate produce and plants to our partners taking healthy food to underserved communities and food pantries, and we offer our harvest bounty for sale to raise funds to do it all again next season! ♻️ We also recycle any food waste as compost for it to continue the cycle of providing nutrients for next season’s crops 🧑‍🌾

Come support our year-round efforts in growing a thriving local food movement driven by the need to provide healthy, nutritious food for ALL.

The Campus Garden is a multi-disciplinary teaching and research site dedicated to practices of and where we’re helping resources for today and future generations. Learn to grow with us!

The sweet potato harvest was exceptional this year, our best harvest yet at over 700 lbs out of one 800 sqft plot.🍠 Thanks so much to our amazing volunteers that prepped Thursday and harvested in the heat Saturday morning to get it done! 💪

We planted on June 1 & four months later—harvest bounty!

What does it take to get this kind of yield? Good slips, great soil, a good irrigation plan & a little organic fertilizer. 🧑‍🌾

Our Story

" If our pilot native garden is successful, we envision future garden plantings that include experimental world gardens that feature global economic botany species that have ties to anthropology classes and student projects and possibly that have sustainable use potential in our local climate and conditions. Looking forward in an even longer term perspective, if our coalition of campus and community partners and our combined gardening expertise and capability grows effectively, we would be interested in possibly expanding our gardening activities into local food production (for educational purposes) in future years." - from the UALR Garden Proposal
