As humans, we’ve long understood the importance of eating fresh, whole foods and steering clear of ultra-processed options. The link between processed foods and a myriad of health issues—ranging from allergies and gastrointestinal problems to neurological disorders and even cancers—has been well established. So why is it that when we consult with most vets and breeders, we’re often advised to only feed ultra-processed food to our pets? This is a critical topic for long-term health, and with your help, we can work together to change this!
This week, one of the few unbiased, independent pet food research groups, DogRisk, is raising money to advance this important topic for the benefit of dogs everywhere. It’s absolutely crucial that groups like DogRisk exist and remain independent, free from the influence of major food and pharmaceutical companies, so they can publish findings without bias or pressure from commercial interests. That’s why we need to support them today!
My amazing veterinary colleague and her team of passionate students are leading the charge, globally, on pet nutrition. Their team includes veterinarians, animal nutritionists, biologists, chemists, geneticists, and other experts who look at every facet of pet nutrition and how it impacts health and well-being. The DogRisk team uses a variety of cutting-edge research methods to expand the world’s understanding of dog diets and diseases:
* Large-scale questionnaires to uncover the associations between dietary factors and disease risk or protection, using robust epidemiological methods.
* Clinical diet intervention studies to determine whether certain diets can prevent disease or alleviate symptoms in affected dogs.
* Comparing food supplements to pharmaceuticals and placebos to scientifically demonstrate the therapeutic power of nutrition—like using fish oil or green-lipped mussel meat for managing arthritic pain.
* Genetic research allows the team to dig deep into gene expression, metabolic pathways, and gut microbiota, shedding light on why some dogs are more prone to disease than others.
* They also evaluate the risks associated with various diets, finding, for example, that commercially available raw foods carry no more risk of harmful bacteria than dry foods.
All of their funding comes from individuals like you and me. Your donation helps them continue this vital work and empowers them to share their findings with dog owners worldwide. Please consider donating today, $1, $10, $100...it all helps us know more! Together, we can extend the life and health span of dogs everywhere. With your support, we can make this happen! Plastics are porous, meaning oils💧 become trapped in them. Unless they’re washed🧼 daily, which isn’t practical, the pet food stored inside will be spoiled by rancid oils.🩸Proper pet food storage is essential to blocking or delaying the development of degenerative chemical processes⚠️ and the growth of spoilage bacteria.

For info on how to store pet food properly, Comment STORAGE and we’ll message you the link to The Forever Dog LIFE where in "Chapter 1 - Feeding Your Pet: the section titled 'Food Storage' we cover the best ways to store your pet food toppers, treats, meals, or supplements💊. Announcement!

It is with mixed emotions that we share some news with you. Our much-loved trainer, Fran, has made the decision to embark on a new chapter in her life by starting her retirement journey and relocating closer to family in Virginia. While we are saddened by her departure, we are also happy for Fran as she begins this exciting new adventure.

Fran has been an integral part of our business here at Colorado Pet Education & Creating Forever Dogs, and her dedication and passion for animal training have left an indelible mark on all of us. We will miss her dearly, but we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors.

In light of Fran's departure and some other life changes, I have made the difficult decision to discontinue leasing our space here, so our last classes will be held on May 21st, and we encourage you to take advantage of these final opportunities to benefit from Fran's expertise.

If you find yourself in need of a trainer referral in the future, please don't hesitate to reach out to Fran directly. She will be more than happy to assist you or point you in the right direction. Our email is [email protected].

To celebrate Fran's incredible contributions and bid her a fond farewell, we will be hosting an Open House Party on May 28th, starting at 4pm. Please mark your calendars and join us for a memorable evening of reminiscing, laughter, and heartfelt goodbyes.

We are grateful for the support and friendship you have shown us over the years, and we look forward to cherishing these final moments together before embarking on new paths. Thank you for being a part of our community and for allowing us to be a part of your pet's journey.

Warm regards,

Dawn (& Fran)

PSA! Lillies are extremely toxic to cats. With Valentine's day around the corner, if you receive a bouquet with lilies, make sure your cats can't even walk through or inhale the pollen that falls off of them. I have known 2 clients personally that lost their cats presumably from acute kidney failure due to lilly pollen. 💔 We do not want this to be you!

Hmmmm to say I am not shocked would be an understatement….I will be following this closely. It has been amazing how the “Big 5” have come out so well compared to the small independants.

“In the four years immediately preceding the launch of the FDA’s investigation, Hill’s lost 20% of its market share. In the five years since the investigation began it has been arguably the fastest growing pet food company in the country.”

The case was filed on behalf of KetoNatural Pet Foods, a Utah-based pet food startup that manufactures low-carbohydrate dog food products.
