🩶 Nola has been down in the Sun Room but hasn't gotten any adoption interest! 🩶

This sweet girl was a young mom, around a year or two old. She found herself at our shelter because her owner's declining health kept him from being able to care for his cats any longer. She was pregnant when she came in, and this tiny girl had 6 all-black kittens!

Nola is a sweet girl that's a little skittish. If you try to grab her or pick her up from the floor, she'll run away from you. But if you find her in her cage or resting on a cat tower up high and go slow, she purrs when you pet and scritch her. She has a lot of energy and enjoys playing. She gets along fine with the other cats, but may drive a senior or curmudgeonly cat nuts.

If you're looking for a lazy lap-cat, Nola's not the cat for you. It's possible that she'll wind down with age and/or become more trusting and affectionate as she gets to know her people, but Nola's also happy just as she is, so why should she change! If you're looking for a cat to be a companion to your own fun-loving cat, or a high-energy cat to play with that will keep you laughing, Nola's your girl! (Not sure how she is with dogs, but she seems unbothered in general by other animals) 🐾

Feral mama Hera was very happy to go back to where she came from yesterday after being spayed, eartipped, and vaccinated at one of our clinics, thanks to Dr. White and Spay ASAP. The folks that brought her in believe she's had 6 litters, and asked for help. She's now back at the same location, where she can live out her days in a familiar place without continuing to bring more kittens into the world.

Many people may not know that we handle feral cats at our spay/neuter clinics. If you need help managing in-tact barn/feral cats or strays, please reach out to see how we can help. Catching the kittens and altering them is a start, but the cycle isn't broken until mom gets spayed too 🐾

🥳 After spending over five months with us, Mel went to his new home today! After spending a few last minutes in his beloved catio, he was lured into his carrier with treats. We've already received a video from his adopter showing him exploring his new house and purring up a storm! 🐈‍⬛

Days like this are what it's all about - We had to pick Mel up (after finding him first!) in Groveton after he was reportedly abandoned in a parking lot. He was microchipped, but even after reporting him as "found" to the company, we sadly never had anyone contact us to claim him. He stole the hearts of staff, volunteers, and visitors while waiting to be adopted (older black cats often end up waiting a long time to be chosen), and is now in a home that we think is just purrfect for him. Happy endings for the kitties make all the hard work worth it! Thank you to everyone for your support that makes it possible for us to care for all of these homeless cats and kittens 🐾

Teddy (left) and Tommy (right) are 5 or so months old and looking for fun homes that will keep them entertained.

They're adoptable together or separately, but they do love playing with other kittens and young cats and would get bored in a home where they were left alone all day with no humans or other pets to spend time with. 🙀 We kitties need your help! 🙀

The humans are in dire need of a few more volunteers to join the Second Chance team as part of the morning cleaning crew. Try as we might to help them clean, we just end up making more of a mess!

The current needs are on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings (plus also occasionally filling in when people go out of town, are sick, etc.). The morning cleaning shift is from 9 AM until done (a few hours depending on how many of us kitties there are!) While of course this involves socializing and playing with us, there is also a lot of cleaning to be done, including dealing with our p**p - sorry! 💩

The more people there are to help with the morning cleaning, the more time there will be to devote to getting us adopted, working on fundraisers/grants (we can be expensive!), and more. Do you love cats, want to make a difference, and have a few hours a week to spare? Visit our website to send in the volunteer form today! Must be 16 years of age or older. 🧡 Happy from Frannie and Flossie! 🧡

These two sisters are around 3.5 months old and looking for a home after their spay surgeries today. They are very sweet and can usually be found snuggling together! They were rescued from a farm. They are comfortable and friendly here at our quieter shelter, but it's possible that a loud or rambunctious household may be a bit scary for them. It may take them a bit of time to get used to kids. If you adopt a pair, not only do you know right from the start whether or not they'll get along, but they also won't be left alone while you're away from home 🐾

We have some really nice adult kitties here waiting for homes, like Sumi (black) and Butters (tabby). Sumi was found and brought in as a stray, and Butters recently came back to us because his owner had to go into assisted living. Both at least a couple years old. Sumi would do best in a quieter home, and seems to seek other cats out for company. His ideal home would have another sweet-natured kitty friend. They both love attention and taking naps up high.

It's always interesting to see which cats gravitate toward easy other and make friends while waiting to be adopted! 🐾

🐾 It's , so we wanted to highlight our beautiful senior gal Dolly! We caught Dolly in a Havahart trap the week of Labor Day after she was reported as a stray nearby. She's very friendly and clearly not a feral cat. She had been shared on Facebook previously, but no one claimed her. She is estimated to be at least ten years old. Thankfully she was able to be rescued and brought in before it got too cold!

Dolly doesn't like being picked up, but she does enjoy naps, chatting, sunny spots, treats, and being patted. She's fine around other mature cats that are happy minding their own business, but she doesn't like young or hyper cats that get in her face and bug her. She'd be an amazing companion for someone just looking for company. She has so far not gotten any interested on Petfinder. We hope someone will see this post and decide to give this sweet girl a place to live out her golden years! Please share 🐾

🐾 Happy , everyone! We wanted to share this update on Mistie, now known as Jelly, who was adopted recently ~

"We wanted to give an update on Mistie now that she's been home with us for almost a month! She started off a little shy, but we can tell she's getting much more comfortable as the weeks go by. She loves playing, relaxing with us on the couch, and looking out the windows from her various perches. She keeps us laughing all day long!"

Jelly was a little timid here at the shelter, but in the right environment with a routine and one-on-one attention, her personality had a chance to bloom 🌸

Ready to open up your home and find your next best friend? We have a full house right now, with a growing list of cats and kittens that are waiting to come into the shelter, so please consider adopting your next kitty. 🐈 We have another round of babies now old enough and ready for homes! Kitties come and go pretty quickly at our shelter, and not all are pictured. Some of the ones pictured may already have homes. Rather than inquiring about or applying for a specific one you see here, please send us an adoption application, and once processed and approved, we can set up a time for you to meet them all. Some were surrendered, some were rescued from outdoors, but they all deserve a home 🐈‍⬛ (We have several black kittens. We also have a few that are a bit timid, but that will blossom in a home - please don't overlook them!)

PLEASE NOTE that we are a small shelter with a small team and, with 60+ cats and kittens in our care, we are very busy. You may not get an immediate response after submitting an application - please be patient! And please call or email your vet office to give permission for a reference 🐾

UPDATE: Nami is now pending adoption!

🧡 Pretty Nami is only a few years old and looking for a home! She was surrendered by her owners, and has lived previously with another cat. She's a bit of a scaredy cat at first, so she would do well with a sweet-natured cat but not with a domineering or bully cat. She will hide for a bit in a new home (as many cats do), but once she gets to know you, she will reward you with head bumps and kisses. Female orange kitties are somewhat rare! 🧡

Rek-Lis Brewing Company holds game nights every other Monday at their Pint House, with options for D&D, Magic the Gathering, board games, and more, hosted by Fantasy Pants! During the next three events, they will be collecting donations for our shelter! 🖌 We've been up to something fun! 🎨 Over the weekend, we tried out a new project called Paint 'n Nip (you may have seen this activity before on social media). We gave a few of our adoptable shelter kitties some art supplies and let their creativity soar! Shown here is Mel, a 7-year-old male that has been waiting five months to be adopted. We're hoping this project will not only help raise much-needed funds for the shelter, but that it will also highlight some of the older or overlooked cats waiting for homes. We currently have six paintings available so far, and they are available for a $20 donation. We hope to make more in the future as well. 🖤 Cyrus was brought to us by someone who believed his owner either passed away or left him behind. He's a super nice boy, and enjoys chatting with you! He does show dominant tendencies toward the other cats in the room, so it may be best if he's the only cat. 🐾 At thirteen years old, Annie still has her playful, spunky moments (or at least, she does when she thinks no one's looking!) Annie has had it rough, and was adopted once a few years ago but then left behind after her owner moved. She likes a few pats on the head but is overall pretty independent (if you pet her more than she likes, she'll swat ya!) She's just looking for a home where she can live out the rest of her days in peace and comfort, without being expected to be a cuddly lap cat. Other cats are okay if they can mind their business, not sure about dogs. No young kids. Annie is a lovely girl that just wants to live life on her terms! 💛 Here's a cute video to help cure your Monday blues! 💛 (SOUND ON) Emmie is one of our resident "crankypants" cats, meaning she can be picky about which people she likes and she unfortunately has an "attitude problem" sign on her cage to be safe. As you can see from the video, Emmie is a super funny and friendly cat. Part of her problem could be that she, like many cats, just doesn't like the shelter environment. There are different people and cats coming in and out all the time. That can be stressful! Sometimes cat can really change in a different place. Emmie is 6-7 years old and we were told by her last owner that she's not a huge fan of dogs. It's possible she could live with another cat if they are fine with coexisting and not being besties. No young kids. She needs that special person to take her home and give her a chance, the kind of person that might have to accept a few swipes while teaching Emmie that they won't take her baloney! Mama cat Juliet's kitten has been adopted, and so now she's catching up on some much-needed "me time" and acting like a kitten herself! She's a sweet, petite girl who likes people but sometimes plays hard to get. She's curious and playful, but not always sure about loud noises or a ton of action. She's not super shy but would probably do best in a home without a ton of activity or noise (maybe no small kids or multiple rambunctious dogs). She was a stray prior to coming into the shelter, so we don't know her history with dogs, but she does fine with other cats.
