This cutie came in and the owner asked us to check a weird lump on the back of her ear. The lump wasn't a lump at all! Doctor Shubin removed the tick and we will be checking her labs in about a month to confirm clean for any tickborne illnesses.
Ticks do have active times, though in many regions ticks are completely year round. Flea and tick preventatives can help keep your pet tick-free and safe.

Hi! September is disaster preparedness month. Here in California, we are no strangers to disasters, such as fires and earthquakes. Many of us have emergency packs, but are you ready for any of these situations happening with your pet?
Some of the top tips from the American Red Cross is…
1. If it is not safe for you to stay in your home during an emergency, it’s not safe for them either!
2. Include supplies for your pet in your emergency kit, or assemble an emergency kit for your pets.
3. Make an evacuation plan for you and your pets. Many hotels and shelters do not accept animal guests, other than service animals.
Your disaster kit should include:
* Sturdy leashes, harnesses and/or carriers to transport pets safely and ensure that they can’t escape.
* Food, drinking water, bowls, cat litter/pan and a manual can opener if your pet eats canned food.
* Medications and copies of medical records stored in a waterproof container.
* A first aid kit. A fully stocked home kid can carry everything needed for a pet first aid kit.
* Current photos of you with your pet(s) in case they get lost. Since many pets look alike, this will help to eliminate mistaken identity and confusion. (Not pictured)
* Information on feeding schedules, medical conditions, behavior problems, and the name and number of your veterinarian in case you have to foster or board your pets.
* Pet beds and toys, if easily transportable.
Disasters can be scary. Where you are likely feeling anxious, so is your pet. An anxious pet may be experiencing some disorientation, or even fear related defensive actions or aggressions. Keep an eye on your pet and try to protect them from the things that can hurt them, or create more fear, anxiety and stress. If able, consult your veterinarian if any behavioral problems persist.
Thank you for tuning in, and remember.. Your pet means the world to you, and that means the world to us. Like and Follow!
