Woola just loves giving out high fives!
Mya came in to see Dr. Serpas this week! She was so crazy about her spoonful of peanut butter she didn't even realize she was receiving vaccine injections, making this a very successful and happy visit for Mya! Happy Vet Visit Mission Accomplished!
Nala came in to see Dr. Sichak a few weeks ago and stole all of our hearts! She just wanted to say hi to everyone and did such a great job during her appointment! Below she is giving lots of kisses to Makayla, one of our attendants! Thank you to Nala's owner for letting us take care of your girl!
Happy Monday! This little kid came into see Dr. Carista. Her and her buddy Thom (one of our Vet Attendants) were scratching eachothers backs before getting her vaccines. Thank you to this sweet girl's parents for letting us take care of her.
Happy National Cat Day! Make sure to give your felines a little extra love. Whether it is with some hugs, snacks, or even a little fake makeover. Every night one of our technicians does her cat, Benvolio's "makeup" with some nice clean brushes. And he enjoys every bit of it!
Mowgli's mom was not exaggerating when she told us he eats her out of house and home. This sweet little boy loved our kitty go-gurts while he came in for his visit with Dr. Lathrop.
An important message from Dr. Pinneo about Canine Flu:

Meet "Bella"!!
Bella is currently recovering from cruciate (ACL) surgery. She had been coming in for laser and rehabilitation with Susie. Recently we decided to continue with rehabilitation only as we want to give a little extra attention to the surgical leg to help with strengthening and increasing muscle mass. As we continue to make the leg stronger, it will become more stable and she will ultimately start to use it like she did prior to the injury.
She has been doing very well with her therapy. We enjoy having her and her family come visit us! She is a pleasure to work with.
If your pet is recovering from an injury or surgery and you think it would benefit from either laser or therapeutic exercise, please call our clinic today. Our doctors and Susie will come up with a plan and a schedule with will fit the needs of you and your companion.
Meet "Dude"!
Dude had a cruciate (ACL) repair done on his left knee. He is about 1 month post op and is doing amazing!
Following the home exercises and restrictions is so important with recovery. He also receives laser therapy to help with any inflammation and pain. And he gets rehabilitation done here at the hospital too. The rehab is used to help with strengthening, improving stabilization, and increasing muscle mass.
Did you know that with disuse of a limb, muscle atrophy (muscle wasting) happens very quickly? So it is imperative that we help preserve and improve not only the muscles involved, but the entire body as a whole.
Dude does enjoy his visits with Susie.....although, he may prefer the treats most!
Check out "Coco" showing off her balancing skills as she goes through this fun obstacle course.
Coco loves coming to see Susie for rehabilitation and laser therapy. While this may look like an agility course, we are actually working on strengthening, stability, and increasing muscle mass. This obstacle course is a full body work out.
Coco has been seeing Susie for over 2 years. Coco has progressed and improved so much that she now comes in for maintenance sessions once a month.
If you think that your pet would benefit from rehabilitation and/or laser therapy, please contact the office to schedule an initial consult.
Here is Harley!!
She's back, showing off her stuff!!
She is kindly displaying her "engaged" muscles as she trys to balance herself on the wobble board.
We could not be more pleased with her progress and results!!
Balance is a key component in strengthening. The goal of balance and stability are to enhance proprioception (body/limb awareness), encourage weight shifting and muscle contraction over the entire body.
We want to restore, maintain and promote optimal function and fitness, wellness and quality of life.
If you find that the goals and benefits listed above are the same as the ones you have for your pet, please call today, 315-451-5455. We can help!
"Luca"
This handsome German Shepard has been being treated for Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).
DM is an incurable, progressive disease of the canine spinal cord that is similar in many ways to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Progressive weakness and incoordination of the rear limbs are often the first signs seen in affected dogs, with progression over time to complete paralysis.
Myelin is an insulating sheath around neurons in the spinal cord. One proposed cause of degenerative myelopathy is that the immune system attacks this sheath, breaking it down. This results in a loss of communication between nerves in lower body of the animal and the brain.
Dr. Prosser and Susie have been working together with Luca's treatment. His owners are also very dedicated and present in his treatment plan.
Luca has been responding great to his therapy. Susie has been helping with muscle memory, function, range of motion, and proprioception (awareness of limbs).
Please stay tuned for more on Luca's progress!!
Rehabilitation is crucial in helping to maintain mobility, muscle memory, function, and strength. It is also beneficial for range of motion, flexibility, weight loss, and overall well being.
Exercises don't have to be extensive to have them work. Simple leash walks are are great way to get your dog (or cat) conditioned. Then we can gradually build on that foundation.
Rehabilitation visits are FUN and REWARDING!!!
If you would like more information on simple exercises that can be performed on you pet, please contact our office today to schedule and appointment.
Here's Harley showing off her progress. She has done phenomenal!!! Her strength and range of motion have improved and her muscle mass (thigh girth) has increased. We are so proud of how well she has done over the past few months!! She has progressed so much that we are now on a maintenance schedule.
We are sure going to miss seeing her every week!!!
If you think your favorite companion could benefit from a little exercise, please contact one of our wonderful veterinarians and they can have Susie, our rehabilitation practitioner, speak to you about our rehab schedule and appointments.
TAI
For your Tuesday morning enjoyment.
This is our receptionist Susan's Amazon Parrot enjoying his new enclosure. This is a great example of how environmental stimulation can enrich the lives of indoor pets.
Environmental or behavioral enrichment is the process of manipulating an animal's environment to increase physical activity & normal species typical behavior that satisfies the animal's physical and psychological needs. It reduces stress and therefore promotes overall health by increasing an animal's perception of control over their environment and by occupying their time. Techniques utilized to enrich an environment generally fall into 5 categories:
Food based enrichment
Sensory enrichment (sight, smell, touch, hear, taste)
Novel objects
Social enrichment
Positive Training
