We met Layla this week (Husky/Shepard) and worked with her family on foundation skills. She is fast learner and needs a lot of enrichment to keep her occupied so we were happy to give her family the tools to set her up for success!

Also, pictured (second photo hound mix) is adoptable Rico from HumaneCNY who is being fostered by the family. He is so precious and such a gentleman! Go check him out!!

So proud of this team! Maple and dad have been working hard on Maple’s confidence and feelings on leash. Pictured here is Maple at our second session together working with one of our stuffed dogs.

Today we were able to walk around a park full of people and loud noises with little reaction. They still have a ways to go but we have seen huge improvements in the last few months! Keep up the good work Maple and family!

Please share Brownie! She’s a wonderful girl and is available at HumaneCNY 🐕‍🦺

Brownie being at the shelter so long makes 0 sense to us.

Her sister and littermate, Kasia, was adopted the better part of 9 months ago.

Brownie sits and waits. She sees her doggie playmates come and go.

Everyone wants a dog that’s good with other dogs— Brownie is that. ✅

Everyone wants a dog that they can take hiking or on other adventures— Brownie is that. ✅

Everyone shies away from adopting older dogs, we often get messages asking about puppies and young dogs— well, Brownie is only 2. ✅

Everyone wants a dog that’s trainable with some treats or toys— you guessed it! Brownie is that. ✅

Her only “con” as far as finding a home goes is no cats for her, please. 🐱🚫

Brownie is definitely an athletic little lady, but lots of us made new year’s resolutions to get fit in 2024 👀 Let Brownie be your workout buddy!

The shelter is no place for a young shepherd to grow up. Watching her mind and body want more is heartbreaking. She’s a good girl and will be even better snuggling and zooming around with you!

Brownie is more than ready to go home: she has a cute harness that fits her perfectly, her favorite toys, and her friends at Think Pawsitive Dog Training are offering a free lesson to help her adjust to her new home, if desired.

Email us at [email protected] to set up a time to meet Brownie. 💌

The importance of “drop it”, “trade” and “leave it”:

Teaching your dog these cues early can help to prevent resource guarding, and help you live a more harmonious and less stressful life with them.

How? ➡️ We’re teaching them what’s expected of them, instead of waiting for potentially dangerous situations to arise. We always want to try to be proactive, rather than reactive, when it comes to our dogs’ behavior.

When we make a positive association with giving something up, or not being allowed to have something, our dogs begin to understand that is isn’t the end of the world…and can actually mean that something better is coming.

Want help with these cues? We learn them in Basic Manners group class, or we’re happy to show you during an in-home lesson. Call/text/email to set something up! ☎️🧑‍💻🐕‍🦺

Loose leash walking…let’s talk about it! 🗣️

🐾 Loose leash walking means the leash resembles a smile, or a half circle. Your dog doesn’t need to be in a perfect heel, but we do want some slack on the leash!

🐾 A dog being able to keep a loose leash is an important skill, especially if you want to take your dog in public.

🐾 We don’t need 100% of the dog’s focus on at all times for LLW, but we do want check-ins!

Stella the poodle and her mom are a perfect example of how wonderful and harmonious your life with your dog can be when you put in work on your relationship! Check out that loose leash and voluntary check-in 🐕‍🦺🙏🏼

Curious how it’s done? Schedule your in-home consultation today ☎️

Long leash walks: what, why, and how?

▶️ A long leash walk or a “sniffari” is a great opportunity for your dog to let some energy out, get a feeling of freedom while staying safe, and explore the world around them.

▶️ These are best done at more secluded areas: low traffic parks, pet friendly cemeteries, ball fields that aren’t in use, etc.

▶️ If you have a reactive dog, this is a great chance for them to properly enjoy a walk that isn’t on a sidewalk full of triggers.

▶️ Have more questions? Want a demo? Contact us to set up an in-home training consultation ☎️📧📲

Our Story

I have been working with dogs for over 6 years and have 3 dogs of my own. After working in dog rescue and animal advocacy for many years, I decided to go to school to become a professional dog trainer. In May 2014, I graduated from Animal Behavior College as a Certified Positive Reinforcement Dog Trainer, ABCDT. I am Supporting Member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and stay current and up-to-date in my field by attending seminars and workshops regularly.

I love dogs of all ages, breeds, and size. I am excited to offer group and private dog training sessions in the Syracuse and surrounding areas. So why choose positive reinforcement dog training?

Positive reinforcement dog training focuses on building a positive relationship between you and your dog. It is a relationship built on trust, not on fear. Your dog will build self-confidence and self-control, while you will become a positive and confident leader. Group classes are offered at the following locations- R & B Romp and Play Doggie Daycare 6780 Manlius Center Rd, East Syracuse

Contact me for more information about my training classes and private lessons.
