Meet Sam, a 4-year-old Mountain cur that was dropped off at our vet to be killed for chasing a cat.

Yes, seriously. It’s his breeds instinct.

Thankfully, our vet staff decided that was not an option and asked us to help find him a home (yes with permission)

Sam has been a hero as well while at the vet, helping another dog with a blood 🩸 transfusion.

We hope someone will be his hero too!!

He is a sweet boy. We still need to get to know him, but it’s obvious he is a lovebug.

We are full so they have graciously offered to house him for the time being but he needs a foster to get him out of the vet’s boarding kennel asap!!

He is neutered, heartworm negative and fully vaccinated!

That’s a wrap!!! We had our last event of 2024 yesterday!! Thank you so much to Lowe’s in Cedar Rapids and manager (and foster) Olivia for having us!! Thank you to our Santa and Mrs. Claus, you were perfect and a joy to watch with the kids and pups!! Huge thank you to Austin Michael Photography for volunteering your afternoon to take photos for us! Thanks to all fosters and volunteers that showed up, and big thanks to our adopters yesterday!! Such a fun and successful event. See ya next year Iowa!!

💔 Help Lucky Recover!!

This past Wednesday evening, one of our fosters witnessed something no one should ever have to see. As she was driving home, she saw a dog—one of a pack of five—trying to cross the road. The last dog in line, was struck with full force by a speeding car, flung into the air, and left lying in the street as the driver sped off without stopping. 🥺

Devastated, our foster stopped and immediately rushed him to the emergency vet, where they confirmed: a broken femur. The following day, he underwent emergency surgery at a specialty clinic to repair his leg. Because he survived such a traumatic event, we named him Lucky.

Today, we learned that he’s struggling after surgery. He’s experiencing diarrhea, is lethargic and has no appetite (thankfully, confirmed not to be parvovirus), but his situation remains critical. He tested positive for heartworm, and the vets are concerned that the anesthesia may have caused his body to throw a blood clot loose, so he needs some additional testing—x-rays, bloodwork, and clotting time checks.

So far, his medical bills have reached about $2,000, and with these additional tests, we’re looking at another $600 in expenses.

We need your help to give Lucky the fighting chance he deserves. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward his treatment and care. Please consider donating or sharing this post to help spread the word.

Update as of 5pm 12/13- This event is canceled due to bad weather. Cc on Main events are postponed until next weekend, but our shop will be open for regular business, so we will not be having this Santa PAWS event :(

SANTA- PAWS is on his way! Join us tomorrow morning-Sat Dec 14th from 10am-1pm at 825 Marion Rd South. Santa will be here for pictures with your pets or kids. We will also have a hot cocoa bar. East Texas Hoof and Paw Animal Rescue will have adoptable dogs to visit!

We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your help with a heartbreaking situation. We recently received an urgent request for assistance with approximately 15 dogs in desperate need 🐾

The situation stems from the passing of an older gentleman whose health had declined, leaving him unable to care for his beloved dogs in his final months. His son, who has been doing his best to help, is overwhelmed and unable to care for them all, especially with the distance of living two hours away.

The family is devastated by this situation; we spent time with them yesterday, and the emotional weight was overwhelming. We laughed and cried together. It’s important to note that we are not judging the family—this is a heartbreaking and difficult situation for them, and they’ve done what they could given the circumstances.

We visited the property yesterday and were able to provide vaccines and preventative to some of the dogs. We also heartworm tested the dogs we could handle. However, they are in need of further medical attention, including heartworm treatment, and surgeries to get them spayed or neutered. The dogs vary in size. Many are small breeds, with several weighing under 15 pounds. In addition, there is one larger dog, a 40-pound mixed breed. There are also several elderly dogs, ranging in age from 12 to 15 years, who will require special care and attention due to their age, such as dental work for several of them.

We are urgently seeking foster homes for these dogs, both locally (Livingston Texas) and beyond. Many of these dogs have been living primarily outdoors most their lives and this will be a significant adjustment for them as they transition into indoor environments. We plan to arrange transport to Iowa next week, but we cannot move forward without more fosters stepping up. These dogs need DEDICATED people who are willing to invest time, patience, and care into their rehabilitation, as they adjust to new surroundings and routines. We can tell they want love but their world has been flipped upside down and they need humans more than ever right now!!
