Agape..... This was pretty much the extent of his trim with Garret yesterday and also the update that nobody ever wants to give and is absolutely breaking my heart 💔
Agape is the sweetest 25 yr old Paso Fino, 26 on Valentine's day, Agape is the Greek word for Love ❤️
Agape lost his bonded partner of 14 yrs if not mistaken earlier this year, and was such a sad boy 😞
We borrowed a mare from a friend in hopes it would perk him up after losing Shiloh, and that helped, but the mare eventually had to go home.... Then came Sassy and they have definitely bonded, Agape had that spark in his eyes again ❤️
Unfortunately although his heart is full, his old body is giving out ....
Yesterday when Garret came to trim his hooves, he wasn't able to do but one hoof, Agape has severe arthritis and can't lift his hooves to he trimmed or cleaned, he can't even bend his back legs back anymore, but let Garret pull one forward....
Without being able to clean and trim it's caused an abscess which we've been trying every two weeks to correct.... Garret looked at me yesterday and told me it's best to put Agape to sleep, that this isn't quality of life for him and we're just fighting a fight we can't win, all we're doing is keeping his wheels turning 😞 Agape also no matter what we feed, how many times ,how much we feed , weight gaining supplements he won't put on weight.... We've tried everything with him and it's just not helping.... I've known this day was coming but kept trying to fight the good fight.... When Garret told me it's time yesterday I had to agree, sometimes it helps to hear it from someone you trust.... I called my sweet friend Shirley who I got Agape from and let her know what is going on and also let her speak with Garret, and we are all in agreement that it's the best decision for Agape and it's time... It would be selfish if me to keep him going. It's heartbreaking, I don't like having to make these decisions, nobody does, as much as it breaks all of our hearts it's time.... Right now we're going to get through the holiday and come up with a plan and try and figure this all out ❤️
For the time being Agape is going to get as much love as possible and lots of extra treats ❤️

So with the help of the sedation paste (Dormosedan) Festus did really well for Garret our farrier... He was able to really work on him finally and got a lot more off of his hooves ... Festus is feeling and walking so much better now ❤️
He will continue to be on a two week schedule for quite awhile to get his hooves where they need to be 😊
