July 4th is upon us. Many dogs do not like the sound or smell of fireworks. If your pet has a sensitivity to fireworks now is the time to contact your Veterinarian.
This week is going to be HOT! Please be advised that as the temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that our pets cannot regulate their own temperature as easily as humans can. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, & DO NOT leave them outside or in a car for extended periods of time. Heat stroke can happen very quickly especially in short nosed, long haired or double coated breeds.

Dear valued clients and patients,
We have made the difficult decision to hang up our stethoscopes and scalpels. Our last day with Livonia Veterinary Hospital will be July 2nd. We will be moving to Seneca Lake, where Jeff’s parents purchased land back in the ‘60s and where we are now finishing new construction on our retirement home.
It is hard to imagine that we have been living and working as veterinarians in Livonia for thirty-six years. Thirty-six years of caring for so many cherished furry family members. Thirty-six years of stories and shared experiences. Of laughter as we shared stories of our pets, our families, and of the many ways our lives intersected. Of tears as we helped bid farewell to cherished pets, and countless smiles as we welcomed new additions into your homes. All of you have been so much a part of us that it is incredibly difficult and bittersweet as we prepare to move on to the next chapter in our lives.
Our journey with Livonia Veterinary Hospital began in 1988 in a garage on Linden Street owned by retiring veterinarian, Dr. Ken Kiehl. Intensive emergency overnight care was at our house. A standard work week was 80+ hours. For emergencies and holidays, it was not uncommon for us to show up with one of our three young children in a backpack carrier.
In 1991, we moved into a newly constructed building where Livonia Veterinary Hospital stands today, and as time went by, our practice expanded. We were fortunate enough to welcome additional veterinarians and a remarkable support staff, not only allowing us more time with our family but also enriching the LVH family.
Our LVH family has always been nothing short of exceptional. Even those who have moved on continue to hold a special place in our hearts. While retiring fills us with mixed emotions, it is the unwavering dedication of these remarkable individuals that reassures us that as we exit, your pet’s care continues in very good hands. Dr. Karin Boyd will continue to provide exceptional dental care. Dr. Joe Wilder (who is board-certified in small animal practice—a significant professional achievement) and Dr. Ken Boehm will continue to bring much knowledge and many years of practice experience. The technical expertise provided by LVT’s Vivienne, Katie, and Mary, along with assistance from Hannah and Kendyll is unparalleled. Julie and Kelly remain your friendly voices at the other end of the phone, while Katie Ellsworth ensures efficient management and oversight for everyone to deliver their best. Their commitment to compassionate care and clinical excellence is something we are truly proud of.
Thank you all for your generous support and friendship through the years. We will miss you.
Most Sincerely,
Beth and Jeff Jamison

Livonia Veterinary Hospital will reopen today. We apologize for any inconvenience yesterday's closure caused. Thank you for understanding.
I regret to inform you that Livonia Veterinary Hospital will be closed Tuesday January 23, 2024 due to a dumpster fire in the parking lot. There were NO patients or staff in the building at the time of the fire. This closure is to ensure the building is safe for our staff, clients and patients to return. We all appreciate your patience during this time.
A huge Thank You, to the passerby who called this fire in. I didn't get your name but our team would love to thank you again.
Thank you to Livonia, Lakeville and Hemlock Fire Departments, the Livingston County Sheriff's Dept., and all of the first responders. We are all very fortunate for your quick response.

As many of you have seen the cages for sale posted here earlier today. Livonia Veterinary Hospital is NOT closing. These cages are extra cages and no longer needed. Due to the water damage we encountered in the middle of November we are now doing some renovations. Hence why the cages are no longer needed. Not to worry we still have plenty of cage space. Please do not hesitate to call the office with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
The LVH Team

I would just like to say, thank you for everyone that reached out, with e-mails, and phone calls during our forced closure. ServPro has worked very hard these past 5 days to be able to be operational tomorrow Monday November 20, 2023.
We still have a ways to go, but ensuring staff, client and patient safety was our main priority.
The hospital will be open normal business hours going forward. We will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving.
Again we all appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.
Thank you,
The Staff at Livonia Veterinary Hospital.
Dear Clients,
As many of you know, there was a water main brake on Bronson Hill Road next to our mailboxes last night . Staff arrived around 7:30am to find the hospital flooded with water and mud. Due to the severity of the flooding, the hospital will be closed and plans to re-open Monday November 20, 2023.
I understand that this is an inconvenience. If you have an emergency, please refer to the list of Urgent Care & Emergency Servies previously provided. This can also be found on our website, and page.
All messages left on voicemail and email will be checked daily.
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Sincerely,
Livonia Veterinary Hospital

Today Lets start from the beginning to truly understand your pet's dental health- Tooth anatomy! #toothtuesday This is an example of a dental xray. The crown is the portion of the tooth that you can see above the gums. The root is the rest of the tooth beneath it. You can see there is a lot more root and crown which shows the importance of dental xrays. Encircled in red are the pockets that accumulate bacteria if you do not brush your pet's teeth. You will see bright red gums if bacteria is present in this area. Over time that bacteria eats away at the jaw bone. This bone loose is called periodontal disease. If significant, your pet may run the risk of losing the tooth! Any questions on tooth anatomy?? Please comment below or message us!
Our technicians wear as many hats as they have names: LVTs, Veterinary Technicians, Vet Techs... they are our superheroes!
Ear mites are found in the ears of cats. They make the ears very itchy. When we look at an ear cytology during the exam, this is what we see under the microscope....how gross! Here is more information regarding ear mites: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/health-information/feline-health-topics/ear-mites-tiny-critters-can-pose-major-threat If your cat or dog is having problems shaking their head, scratching at head, brown debris in ears, or a foul smell coming from the ear then please give us a call at 585-346-3810 so we can set you up with an appointment.
