Armadillidium maculatum is a really fun isopod native to France. It is commonly known as "zebra isopod" as its natural found appearance is black and white stripes. This species has a really fantastic pattern expression; captive cultures display ranging from almost white to almost black. This isopod breeds year round and is quite fearless, making it a fantastic display animal.

Dairy cows are probably the most well known of the laevis morphs, and among the most well known isopod. But who wouldn't want tiny cute little cows running around a tank? These guys are easy to care for and reproduce quickly. They are more of a protein hungry species, but will eat basically anything and everything.

"Frontisotre" is actually a name for a species that was already idenfied - A. pallasii. The "c.f." denotes that it is not this species, just very similar to it and is as close as experts have identified it.

This is a locale collected from Croatia; in comparision to the other "frontisotre" circulating in collections is is the same length but thicker across the middle.

This is a large species that enjoys rotten wood, calcium and occasional protein. They breed year round prolifically and reach fantastic sizes. They do well in environments similar to A. vulgare.

Frontisotre do well in temperate to semi-arid environments. They may have issues molting in tropical environments, and like to eat soft bodied plants.

One of the first types of isopod to be kept as a pet and enjoyed for their care and aesthetics, rather than just being a cleanup tool in a terrarium/vivarium.
That being said, they make an excellent terrarium custodian too.

Happy New Year, freakz & geekz! 🎉
Lookit this! After about 10 days or so, these superwormz I just isolated will begin to curl into 'C' shapes, before pupating! The pupae will get dark, and after 2-3 weeks will hatch out into adult beetles! Once the beetles lay eggs, it will be another 4+ months (sometimes longer!) until the baby superwormz are big enough & old enough to go thru this process themselves. 🤗

Calling all fish freaks & tank addicts! This one is for you! 🐟 Sitting here in my bedroom & looking at Spider-Man's house, I realize I'm a bit behind on tank maintenance. It's been about.... 2.5 weeks? Give or take. I did top off water levels last weekend, but with Leela drinking it & no lid (I use frogbit as a floater in this one), evap. rate is much faster. This is a post for anyone who wants a planted tank but isn't sure how much "work" is involved. It's not much. This is just a simple 10g betta/guppy tank. Tomorrow I'll spend about 20 mins snipping roots and maybe swiping glass. Otherwise, I top off water, cycle lighting, and go. I dont even do the fishkeepers coveted weekly water changes. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Self-sustaining is the way to go. Ditch the fake stuff and get real. HMU anytime for tips, tricks, advice, etc. Bugz not drugz, mmkay? Happy NEW YEAR!!! 🌿
