Over the weekend some of our girls went to their third SOHH Open Show of the season. Our little team brought home a few High-Point Ribbons! Big thank you to Southern Ohio Heart of Horsemanship for all their hard work and dedication to put on such a fun day for these kids and their ponies. 2024 OHIO STATE FAIR!
🍀 I am so proud of these four kiddos and how hard they work each and everyday with their horses. There was some pretty serious competition at this massive show, especially in the rail classes! So happy with this team and also happy this long hot week is finally finished.

🏆Blake and Skunk came home with some new hardware, winning Champion in Stakes Race and Reserve Champion in Pole Bending💪🏻 Love seeing my old man still kick butt and take names. Blake rides him very well and she has improved tremendously this year.

🎲Ava and Vegas placed 10th in a very serious costume contest. They competed in their first big Ranch classes and did a great job! They didn't score a top placing in either class but have made leaps and bounds in the short months they've been working together.

🐴Reagan and Chance did wonderful in her Hunter classes. This was Reagan's first ever big dog show and she held her nerves together pretty well! Her and Chance make an excellent team and I'm so excited for their future.

🫡As always, big thank you to these parents who put their blood, sweat, time and funds into this passion their kids have! I love our barn family, we are blessed with an amazing support system. I am so proud of all of my kids and do boast about them but I really have to hand it to RyLee. She ALWAYS steps up when I can't be there. She was at the fairgrounds with me (and without me) every single day this week even though she only showed two of them. She is the first to help one of the other kids or their horse. She is always sharing her grooming equipment, show clothes and even tack without a second thought. And she does it with a smile! I am hard on her and push her to do a lot, but she takes it and pushes to the next level. This young lady is truly something special and we appreciate her greatly! So proud of how hard these kids work! Our girls are bringing home a bunch of medals and ribbons. They always support one another and have each other's back. The fair is always a hot, long and stressful week but in the end it is all 100% worth it to see the smiles on these kids' faces. Our group pulled 1 Check, 7 Medals, and 95 Ribbons; that is just from the horse show! Some of our kids also won their non-livestock projects💪🏻 That is a wrap for the 2024 Pickaway County Fair 🍀🐴🏅

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to these four lovely ladies. They each qualified in multiple classes to perform at the Ohio State Fair. Thank you to all the volunteers, parents and judge at the Fairfield County Performance Against the Standard show yesterday. Excited for the rest of our team to try at the Pickaway County PAS in two weeks!

Our girls spent friday night and all day today showing at the 2024 Madison County Open Horse Show. Our kids and their equine counterparts all did great and had so much fun showing together! A few of our kids had their first ever experience at an open show today, some of our kids won their first classes, some even pulled their first checks! Lots of high placings this weekend and I couldn't be more proud of our team💪🏻. As always, big thank you to our show family for spending countless hours with me and the kids on a Friday night and Saturday morning. All of these girls hit personal records with their horses this weekend. Megan has made huge strides with her new horse, teaching her the patterns, figuring out leads and bonding. Reagan has found her voice and her confidence is booming, she is learning to trust the horses and get clean patterns. Blake found her gas pedal and is learning how to best communicate with her horse. Ava has pushed past her comfort zones and amazes me with her patience working with a pretty stubborn pony. This group of kids pour their hearts into this sport and I couldn't be more proud to have them in our barn family.

2023-2024 CWR Youth Rodeo Finals Part 2
🐴7-10 Age Group🐴
We had four KPH representatives for the 7-10 age group this season. Each one of these girls improved drastically from last year's season. Abby wasn't able to compete at finals this season but she still beat all of her times from last year's rodeo this year. I love watching all of these kids' confidence grow each show. This was Ivie's first Youth Rodeo season and she made huge strides with Bougie. Emily and Jack learned a lot this year and are continuing to challenge each other to be better. Huge shoutout to Micah, this was her first show season ever and she came to play! After only four shows she dropped her times consistently and continued to push Kodak. She even scored his (the horse's) personal best barrel time on Sunday.

2023-2024 CWR Youth Rodeo Finals Part 1
🐴6 & Under🐴
We had one KPH representative for the 6 & under age group and boy did he hold his own! Beau worked hard to get his horse(s) in check for this year's rodeo. This was Beau's first year doing classes on his own and off the leadline. I am so proud of how cool this 4 year old cowboy is! He is such a gentleman and treats his ponies like royalty. Huge props to the Watson family for supporting his dreams. Beau came home with 4th overall cowboy this season🤠

The kids all had great runs over the past weekend at the Crazy Woman Ranch Youth Rodeo! We had 10 riders, and they definitely held their own. I came across this post today and couldn't not share it! It's a good read and can really help put things into perspective🖤❤️..............................................................................
Instead of questioning your trainer why your kid is not excelling as quickly as others in their riding, maybe look at how much your kid practices. If you’re only willing to commit to two lessons a month for example, that’s 2 hours per every 30 days on average. 2 hours out of 720 hours a month. Now let’s look at a year. 24 hours total. On average your kid then practices 1 day out of 365 days per year... let that sink in.

Our sport is much harder than most and takes a lot of practice and skill, but for some reason people do not look at it this way.

For example when I ran track, we practiced minimum 5 days a week for 2 hours a day. I put the sweat and time in to improve. Chorus - practice daily. Cheerleading - daily. Football - daily.

Now, I also understand our sport is expensive. However, I find it imperative that as a parent you look at these numbers... and before you come complaining “my kid isn’t improving fast enough,” truly look at how much she practices. I am good at what I do, but I can’t work miracles.

I constantly get parents comparing their kid to student “X.” However, student X is out at the barn working for extra ride time on anything I will give them and always ready to put in the work. As trainers we always have horses that need to be hacked. “But I want to jump,” I hear so often and the biggest thing is that these riders don’t realize jumping starts with flat work. Come work in exchange for ride time. Drop your stirrups and practice what we do in our lessons. Make yourself stronger and watch how much quicker you excel. All jumping is is flat work with sticks in the way.

I was a barn rat growing up. I worked my butt off just to get on any horse my trainer would let me. The bratty pony needs a schooling? Done. The wild TB needs a hack? Done. The true and seasoned lesson horse needs a light hack! Perfect! I can work on me.

We need to truly change these mindsets in our industry. Let’s be honest with your expectations.

24 hours - 1 day - out of 365 days. Let that sink in.

Now let’s just add once a week lessons. 4 hours a month - 48 hours a year - 2 days out of 365..

Our newest (and likely the cutest) addition to the KPH team is 3 year old Beau Watson and his trusty steed Pacman! Beau competed at Crazy Woman Ranch last weekend and did his very first Down&Back and Barrel Pattern off the lead all by himself. Today at Rodeo Run he mastered his Pole Bending Pattern too💪🏻🐴 So proud of this junior cowboy and excited to see what the future holds for him!

It was a great weekend to start the 2023-2024 Crazy Woman Ranch Youth Rodeo season. We had 9 riders, some new and some with new horses. I'm proud of how hard each of these kids works to achieve their dreams, excited to see what they look like next month! New personal records were me, places were earned, and checks were made💪🏻

Corinne and Lexi represented Keeton Performance Horses at the Hocking County Open Horse Show tonight. Thankfully the rain held off and the girls had awesome runs and lots or PRs. Our team brought home another Grand Champion Title🏆

This was our 6th and final Southern Ohio Heart of Horsemanship Open Show of the season and these kids have loved every minute of it! I am beyond proud of these girls and their horses. Our team brought home 2 SEASON Highpoint Champions, 1 SEASON Reserve Highpoint Champion, and 2 DAILY Highpoint Champions. Each of our girls brought home blue ribbons today!!! As always, big thank you to our show family for spending 12+ hours with me and the kids on a Saturday. Thank you to SOHH for putting on a great series, until next year!
