Nyx, our Ringtail, is still adjusting to the time change. As a nocturnal animal, she is loving the longer nights! However, that makes the daylight hours all the more difficult to get through😴.
Now that Daylight Saving Time has ended, our zoo has started its winter hours. We will be open Wednesdays-Sundays from 10AM to 4:30PM with final tickets being sold at 4PM.
Our Red-fan Parrots have their own private splash pad! 💁 (it's their keepers holding a hose on the mist setting). This is a great way for them to stay cool and interact with their caretakers!
Our Black and White Ruffed Lemur, Mayka, is enjoying some craisins that her keepers put in one of our brand new puzzle feeders! This puzzle feeder was donated to us by a very generous zoo fan via our Amazon Wishlist. If you would like to donate an item from our enrichment or husbandry wishlists, click the link below!

Quasi, the radiated tortoise, says that rainy days are great for snacks and scratches!
Are you all ready to gain an extra hour of sleep? Our skunk sure is! 🦨
Daylight saving time ends tomorrow, November 5th, so remember to set your clocks back an hour!
Also, we will be starting our winter hours this upcoming week, so the zoo will be open from 10AM-4:30 PM with our final tickets being sold at 4PM!
Monday was International Snow Leopard Day! To celebrate, we wanted to share a video of our Snow Leopard's rarely seen playful side 🤪
When you have a sore foot and have to wear a bandage, sometimes you just need to pout and kick a ball around. Our turkey vulture is doing fine but he does not like having his foot wrapped. Both of our turkey vultures can be seen Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
What's better then a popscicle on a really hot day? A lemur with a popscicle.!
Our keepers create cooling treats for our animals to enjoy when it's really hot. Just like us, a fruit popsicle is definitely a welcome treat for our red ruffed lemurs. On days when the temperature soars, our mammals are also given access to their dens as a place to cool off. This means that some of them may not be out and visible in the heat of the day. We hope you are able to stay cool this weekend even if you don't have homemade lemur popsicles.
It's national zookeeper appreciation week! Our keepers work tirelessly to keep our animals healthy and stimulated. In this video, our Prevosts squirrel was able to cool off while tackling some frozen blueberries in a puzzle feeder. His keeper kept him cool and busy. He figued out how to get the berries quickly but did not expect them to be frozen. We've never seen a berry last that long with him! During this celebration week we offer our staff plenty of thank you treats, but their greatest reward is watching an animal enjoy what they have created for them.
Happy Birthday little one. Our endangered Northern Bald Ibis hatched their first chick of the year. These attentive parents will continue incubating their other eggs while feeding and protecting this hungry hatchling.
Happy Earth Day from Micke Grove Zoo
Why have just a slice of birthday cake when you can dive right into the whole thing? Our two leopard tortoise sisters celebrated their 22 birthday today. Even if it was too cold to have a party outside, they still managed to have a great time. Happy Birthday Nikki and Lightening!
