Indy showing off his all terrain vehicle mode. It’s been fun watching his journey unfold as a riding horse.
Zuri’s filly at turnout times and showing off her best moves. Also her first intro to the irrigation water. She will probably turnout to be a water lover like her dam even though she was quite suspicious of her first encounter. She is available to approved home. Her oldest siblings are well loved in their new homes and definitely favorites.
2024 Dezi colt
Dezi’s 2024 Brioso colt fun video collage of his first two weeks of life
Brioso and Zuri hit it out of the park again 🐎
Late to post, but never late than never! Finally put a quick little video together of Zuri’s filly this year. She is such a gem but I can’t keep them all. She will be available once weaned. PM for more details.
The ‘23 Kiger babies first introduction to the flag. I was curious to see their varying responses. Caliente was taking a literal dirt nap for the first portion of it before he decided to see what the other two were up to. Valeroso had the typical Dezi baby response of wanting to chase it especially if it was on the ground. Zephyr, the only filly this year, was pretty sure she wanted to carry it around in her mouth by the end of it. The big grulla that pops in the video every so often is their auntie Raya.
Colt number #2 was born a little more than 12 hours after the first! This one was actually the one I’ve been waiting on since the 8th of March. Contessa ended up having a 373 day gestation time which was about one day more than another Kiger maiden mare’s in Sweden. There was good news from that one, so hoped we’d be in the same boat as we were approaching same duration. Contessa is being a phenomenal first time mom 💕. The IgG test results shown in the video was taken early the next morning since it needs a minimum of 8 hours to be accurate. If it was a low score, it gives me a chance to intervene with whatever is needed within that critical first 24 hours.
The first 2023 West 12 Ranch Kigers foal has arrived! Large grullo colt out of seasoned mare Dezi and Brioso. Dezi was dripping milk in the afternoon on Friday and I wasn’t sure how long she’d hold out. She finally foaled at just past 11pm. I still had to pull an all nighter since Contessa was next door and even more overdue and waxing at the same time. New tool for me to use is the refractometer thanks to Winterwind Kigers tip. It helps measure the quality of colostrum the mare is producing. I tried to share the not great quality photo of what the result looks like when you hold the “monocular” tube looking thing up to the light and look in the eyepiece. Then there’s my morning view from my cot in the bed of the truck where I could keep an eye on the mares and new colt. Apparently it turned into a bit of a party and Bokeh the dog decided that I needed a dog on my bed instead of sleeping on her nice bed in the house. The cats as well showed up and slept on the truck with me. I’m sure they would’ve tried to sleep on me but the puppers told them ”no.”
Contessa is overdue and Dezi is due at the end of March. Thankful for this break in the storm but still have more rain coming. This will be Contessa’s first so I’ve been keeping my eye on her and behavior to hopefully notice signs she may repeat to let me know she’s getting close to foaling. #kiger #kigermustang #foaling #horses
Brioso feeling spicy after all the hard stormy weather we’ve been having. He was so happy to stretch his legs on green grass.
Fun memory of last year’s Kiger HMA trip. This was off my cell phone and it did not do the experience justice. I try to go out on HMA at least once a year to get an idea for family groups and updates on some of my fave mares. I see Zuri’s dam out there still with young Zuri siblings.
This particular group in the foreground was very bold. I had to keep backing away from them and made sure to soften my posture to try and look as unthreatening as possible. I believe dark mare is about a three year old since I have baby photos at her dam’s side.
Wild conceived mare Dezi (out of Sonrisa) showing off her trot even whilst having a baby belly. It’ll be the first Brioso baby out of her and we can’t wait for it!
Amora (Brioso x Zuri ‘22filly) was pretty pleased with herself when she figured out she could squeeze through the rubber fencing to reunite with Vana (Brioso x Zorya ‘21filly). We let her have her fun in the arena and then took her back to her pasture buddy Mesa.
Bayo Realeza Intro Video
If you loved the photos of Reali, here is video of her the day of the herd introduction. I am trying to be better at taking opportunities to get video, it just takes longer to edit and post into a short clip. Enjoy!
Kiger mare pasture Dec 2021. Everyone is starting to get their winter fluff on. Zuri (branded bay mare), Dezi (grulla), Zorya (dun), Raya (grulla with high black leg markings), Contessa (grulla with highlights), and Armonia (dun yearling) are out on this pasture.
The boys put on quite a show the night before last. Mojito, Cal and Indy. Mojito is the grandpa to Cal and Indy is Mojito’s yearling half brother.
