Join us for our annual CDE May 16th through May 19th!

While the Horses are the Heart of a Combined Driving Event, the Volunteers are the Soul. Without our fabulous Volunteers this event could not take place. Each and every Volunteer is an integral part of this event being a success. We recognize the time they take out of their busy lives to help. Whether it be volunteering for just one day or for the duration of the Event, each volunteer is equally important and tremendously appreciated.

Volunteers will receive a free breakfast (donuts & coffee), lunch and camping (no hook-ups) on the day(s) they work. We also have a volunteer appreciation award!

We can’t run this event without you!

Friday: Marathon Competition
Saturday: Dressage & Cones Competition

USEF Pony Measurement at SEC
A USEF Pony Measurement will take place on Friday May 17th at 5 PM at Sargent Equestrian Center.
It will be available at no cost for Spring CDE competitors and at $25/horse for ponies hauling in for measurement only.

Sargent Spring CDE 2024!

Sargent Equestrian Center is excited to announce that this years CDE will be two CDE’s!

One ADS recognized two day format CDE on Thursday-Friday May 16th & 17th.

And one USEF Shortformat CDE on Saturday-Sunday May 18th & 19th.

We are trying something new to further revive and grow the Combined Driving sport here on the west coast and we would greatly appreciate any support you can provide whether it’s competing, sponsoring or volunteering!

In our quest to support the west coast driving community we are excited to give the opportunity to host an USEF event.

This first USEF event will run as a shortformat and we are offering classes Beginner, Training, Preliminary and Intermediate.

The decision to leave out Advanced classes is budget related, but if this first USEF event is received well, the thought is to offer it at future events.

We are putting together an information text to help navigate the differences between ADS and USEF events that will be helpful for competitors.

Entering and competing at an USEF event in the lower levels is less intimidating than you might feel.

Both CDE’s will offer CT classes and if you choose, you can drive both events!

To accommodate the date change of CSHP Summer Festival CDE the clinic has been moved to June 30th – July 2nd.

IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING SARGENT’S CDE

THE DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED!
NOW May 25-28, 2023

After a lot of feedback from several of you drivers out there, some processing of those comments and a lot of thinking back and forth, forth and back. The decision has been made!

Sargent Equestrian Center is replacing our May HDT with Sargent Equestrian Spring CDE. May 25-28, 2023.

The last couple of years we have struggled with getting entries coming up short in the end. We’d like to share a few words and hopefully these will encourage you to take part in our event and help to secure its future here at SEC.

Putting on a CDE is expensive, and we take pride in putting on a high-quality event that makes our competitors feel special. We hire a changing pool of officials for our events, giving our competitors the opportunity to compete in front of different judges. All our officials are an integral part in the planning and running of our CDE. Our goal is to keep improving. We feel hiring experienced officials, including some new ones, helps us continue to improve and to run a smoother more organized event for you.

Other expenses incurred include, but are not limited to, hiring the EMT’s that help keep you safe, as well as the veterinarians that keep your horses safe. We rent radios and hire an announcer. For your comfort we place several rented porta-potties around the property. We are lucky to have a temporary barn, but unfortunately last year, the roof was shredded by an unexpected storm, and we are currently in the process of replacing it.

To get the property ready we hire extra staff on top of all the extra hours our permanent staff works. They mow, clean up the facility, prepare stables, arenas, and obstacles etc.

Maddie, along with her full-time job of training horses and giving lessons takes on the task of both show organizer and course designer. She works endless pro bono hours to keep our expenses down. She continues to be determined not only to make this event happen and run smoothly but also to ensure safety, challenges, and fun for the competitors.

We need your support! Please help give us a reason to continue hosting this event. We need competitors to show up! Maddie has gotten very creative and there are lots of options for entries. Enter the CDE class or the CT classes or a combination there of. We don’t require that you stable your horse on site if you are local. If you have been nervous about participating in a CDE we promise you Sargent Equestrian Center and all the other competitors provide the most supporting environment and we are happy to help guide you through your first event here.

Get a head start! Our event counts as a qualifier for the ADS Preliminary Championships held at CSHP October 5-8, 2023. Most of you probably already know you need 3 qualifying events to enter the Championships.

As for information on the CDE!
Dates are May 25th to May 28th, 2023.
Thursday we are having a one-day CT Class.
We also are also providing the option of doing a two-day CT class on Friday and Sunday.

You can cross enter several classes in the following two options:
Two CT classes; Thursday is one class and Friday and Sunday is one class.
One CT and the CDE class; the Thursday CT class and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday CDE class.

And of course, you can choose to do only one of any of the classes.
Entries open April 14th and close on May 5th.
Entries received postmarked before or on April 21st will be part of our stall fee raffle!
Where the winner gets one stall fee covered!

Go ahead an enter early, we offer full refunds up until closing date. After closing date your stall fee can be refunded.

We are working on lots of improvements to the showgrounds and obstacles. We are looking forward to having you!

The combined driving sport on the west coast is fading, we need the numbers back up! Your entry will help!
