Dewclaws have been a topic of debate among dog breeders lately, but it’s time to set the record straight: they serve no functional purpose in working or hunting dogs!! Despite the common claim that dewclaws help dogs “grab hold of the ground” or improve their grip, this simply isn’t true. Dewclaws do not enhance a dog’s stability, traction, or overall performance in the field. In fact, they often become a liability, especially for active dogs who are at risk of tearing or injuring them during work.

As dog trainers and owners of working breeds, we see the consequences firsthand. Removing dewclaws reduces the risk of injury and allows these dogs to perform at their best without unnecessary hindrances. If you’re serious about breeding dogs for work, whether it’s hunting, herding, or protection, it’s essential to prioritize their safety and performance. Dewclaws serve no functional purpose, and removing them can help avoid painful accidents down the line. Let’s focus on what’s best for our dogs’ well-being and longevity.

So please, REMOVE THEM AT BIRTH!!

We have a once in a lifetime dog available for those who want a well trained hunting companion!

Maverick is a registered yellow lab, and will be two in November.

He has completed an advanced obedience course, marks and retrieves to hand, e-collar conditioned, forced fetched, intro to decoys and gun fire, he’s a great kennel and house dog, gets along with other dogs, very easy keeper, and very good with new people and KIDS!

We’re thrilled to have Taz with us this fall for our Basic Board & Train program! At just 7 months old, this sweet pup is already stealing hearts. His eagerness to learn has been incredible, and after just one week, he’s made amazing strides. We can’t wait to show you his continued progress!

First time junior handler and a Master Hunter who’s never been handled by a junior! Kids are often better at learning how to handle them most adults. Adults tend to overthink and overdo things, while kids live in simplicity. Enjoy!
